In this special video, we take you on a tour around somewhere a little different. Within the walls of the incredible fortification of Lincoln Castle sits a Victorian Prison. This Prison is extremely notorious. It would house men and women who committed many different crimes, from murder and theft to infanticide. Lincoln Castle deployed the 'Seperate System,' in which inmates and prisoners were to be kept seperate at all time. In this video we explore the prison as well as telling you the history, and giving you some stories about the prisoners that were incarcerated there.

Have been here before and as soon as I walked into the prison building I felt an overwhelming felling of sadness, it scared me a lot I haven’t been back since

I first visited when I was eight or nine, and have been back a few times since (living in Nottingham, Lincoln is quite a nice day trip) I don’t remember ever getting to see the prison cells.. I’m going to have to go back again when travel is possible, but experiencing the prison chapel has certainly stuck with me, and I’m really not sure what kind of person you would have to be to not find yourself affected by the experience.

There would not have been any gang affiliation in this prison, or prisoners being violent. They would have feared the sting of the birch rod or cat of nine tails on their bare bottoms.
