@@dou5397 he’s unironically just, a weapons master, that’s what he’s spent his life honing, so I think it makes sense that he’d be his *best* when he’s got weapons
Shoot i had an idea- if we ever get a yakuza -1 starring kiryu's dad or kashiwagi it would be cool to get him as a weapons master teacher like the Taiwanese cook in y0
One of the best matchups, since both of them are from the same old school generation of Tojo clan, yet they never met each other before, i believe the moment they saw and clashed during the dynamic into, Kiryu and Sawashiro realized they were from the same rare breed left.
@@charliemcmillan4561I mean, That’s not really far from possible. Especially, Since every Yakuza know about Kiryu and his legendary “Dragon of Dojima” status. So yeah, I also think Sawashiro want to fight Kiryu to see if Kiryu really live up to his name, Too lol.
@@charliemcmillan4561I’m sure he’s had the thought. Like him being essentially the same generation of Yakuza, and knowing his status of the Dragon of Dojima. I’m sure it’s more of him wanting to see his feats for himself.
This man is 60+ and can still kick ass. How crazy is that? Also, I'll give him this, it's not everyday Kiryu gets to fight someone who's been in the game longer than him.
And even when he's at death's door, Kiryu's still a beast since he alone gave Sawashiro a run for his money. Compare that to the last game where it was the other way around with Ichiban's crew.
@@yourboyrussell6738 Well, going by cutscenes, Kiryu vs Sawashiro was a 5v5. Assuming each member took 1 guy, and Kiryu 1v1'ed Sawashiro, yep, he's a beast alright. Also, I wonder how Sawashiro feels about Kiryu. Not only is he Kiryu's senior (in age) but he also outranked him until Kiryu became the chairman. Must be weird meeting a same generation Yakuza as you in your old age when you never met while working for the Tojo.
@@WebbedManiac At best, I feel like Kiryu might regard him in a similar way as Kashiwagi back when he was a lowly grunt for the Kazama Family. But since he'd rather spend his time _outside_ of the yakuza (and y'know, Fourth Chairman for all of 15 minutes), I don't think Kiryu would really give Sawashiro a second glance; to him, he might as well be just another top brass yakuza he's crossed paths with. At least until the two would eventually trade blows, anyway. Seeing as Kiryu's the kind of guy who speaks with his fists.
Don't quote me on that, because I only played, 7, Gaiden, 8 and 1, but Considering Kiryu spent 10 years in....carcerated and some other years in hiding, I'd say most of his oponents have been in the game longer than him.
@@ritacirocavalcanteSurprisingly, he’s got a diverse lineup when we’re talking age. His major opponents in 2, 3, 4 if you count his specific finale boss and not the big bad of the story who he doesn’t personally fight, 5, and 6 are all relative greenhorns. _However,_ many of his minor antagonists happen to have either similar or longer tenure as yakuza. Kiryu, among many other admirable traits, is generally also very personable regardless of age group. In nearly every game, he allies himself with people either notably older or younger than him. It’s one of his many mystical qualities as a legend.
I used the Yuya/Kazuki poundmate on this fight and the way Sawashiro looked away bashfully when they tried to seduce him will be seared into my brain forever
This is just a great example of how goated the Yakuza series music is, that so many soundtracks can be explained as “this song is like if (insert Kiwami 2 ost) and (insert Yakuza 6 ost) had a child and their cool uncle was (insert Like a dragon gaiden ost) by fans 😂
The original Brutality had this desperate edge to it, like you were in a fight to the death against a guy who didn't care what happened to him, but this new version is less desperate, more epic, like you were all waiting for this fight after Sawashiro basically invited Kiryu and co to come and pay him a visit in a roundabout way of his helping out. Then for some reason goes into a crazy breakdown at the halfway point, lol. Plus, that dynamic intro of Kiryu kicking the box into splinters and Jo grabbing a knife out of mid-air and tossing it at Kiryu before grabbing his trick cane is easily one of the best in the whole game. Plus, rather than just cycling through his different weapons in phases, he switches them out as he goes like he's a DMC character.
The breakdown is just Sawashiro realizing he's gotta dial it in. Cancer or not, when you're up against the Dragon of Dojima it's either lock in or get your ass beat
Sawashiro is honestly one of my favorite fights in the series, just on presentation alone. Even when he's on the backfoot of a fight, it feels like he's in control of the situation. I remember my first thought when I fought him back in 7 being "There's no way this guy would kill someone so sloppily that he'd need Ichiban to take the fall for it."
there's a part closer to the beginning of 8 where him and ichiban are talking and I think in reference to him getting out early to oversee the waste disposal he says something along the lines of "they're still yakuza, commanded by power, and no one's as much of a goddamn animal as me" I love him
Didn't Jo kill that one dude because it was part of the big conspiracy? Or was he just pissed off that night? It's been a while since I played Yakuza 7...
@@jamesnorman9160 He didn't kill him at all. Masato killed him by accident after he left the club on New Year's Eve. Arakawa just told Ichiban that Jo did it to spare his feelings.
My experience was just everyone dying at the last second leaving only Kiryu alive. I won a 1 v 1 apparently by sheer luck because my planning was 100% shit
Funny you say that because the first time JO was introduced in any RGG game it was Yakuza online prior to Y7 being released he had the theme God Complex back then. just a fun fact.
@@GoodOlFiddle glad you liked it. I don't think Yakuza online is a thing anymore but if you look up the OST you'll see all the music they used for other games inducing God complex for Jo.
*A Seiryu grunt throws a crate at Kiryu, who destroys it with a kick* *A pocket knife flies out of it and Sawashiro grabs it, throwing it at his opponent, who effortlessly dodges* *Sawashiro summersaults, grabs his cane, and lunges at Kiryu, who dodges and blocks the attack using his wrist* *Former captain of the Arakawa Family, Omi Alliance* *Jo Sawashiro*
If I had a nickel every time RGG uses godly music for two grown men fighting in a warehouse, I'd have two nickels, which isn't alot but strange it happened twice
i think having sawashiro as ichiban's kind of majima is a really fun one. majima had an ideology of an old school yakuza and used that while acting crazy to go along with life sawashiro is literally just ichiban's angry uncle thats superior to you in every way. hes a generation older than you, higher rank than you, probably stronger than you. but unlike majima, hes mad and depressed and the only way he can take it out is on everybody that mighta wronged him, which includes ichiban being a dumb fool 20 years ago TLDR: majima is coping, sawashiro is seething
2:30 PARRY THIS YOU FUCKING CASUAL They did not have to go this hard but they did holy shit. The QTE slow-down effect is top notch, RGG devs are the gods of camera angles.
My biggest regret for this fight was I went kind of wild doing side stuff for Kiryu, so I was 5+ levels above Sawashiro, didn't really make it a fair fight. Next time I play through will save that for later to experience the full hype of this song and boss.
@@KingShibengl that fight was some tough shit. Had I known about the drunken Host Nanba tech with the Prestige weapon, i woulda disrespected him harder
Yeah kinda sucks how he was literally just a pawn for ebina. Atleast he got one of the best boss fights in 8 but hopefully he gets a bigger role in LAD 9
@@MajinVegeta593 I was kind of expecting him to be used again (like how Ryo Aoki used him like he was expendable in 7) but I wasn't expecting for him to be so brutally beaten up and discarded. Hopefully he does get a more important role in 9.
@@gerbil8395 i really would have appreciated a little ending scene where jo, akane and ichi visit arakawa's grave before akane goes back to hawaii and to show sawashiro is at least doing alright. it really feels like the story could've been left in the oven just a little longer
@@frostyprime8110 ikr? It all ends so abruptly. We don't even know what Kiryu's fate will be and what will the Daidoji do, will Saeko ever forgive Ichiban, etc. And yeah, I feel like they completely forgot about Akane at the end of the game
Thanks for uploading these new versions, now that I have the context of the songs, with their real names and with the cinematics of each fight, this becomes much more enjoyable to listen to. Greetings and I look forward to the video with the boss songs
i love the song but i'm pissed the name is just "brutality rebuild", i remember when the songs' official name wasn't known so it was just referred to as "atrocity" and that name is so much fucking cooler
I think this game was Sawashiro paying for his sins in a way. Seeing him ask Ichiban for help was very reminiscent of Arakawa asking Ichiban to do that jail sentence.
What was sawashiro's tattoo again? I remember someone saying its a dragon fish or something like that but idk if it's true or the guy was just hoping it is.
Heyyyy guess who was right about this theme being a collab between chihiro aoki and 83key. (I still don't get why many were the opinion she made it alone you can clearly hear the 83key beat)
