Getting a solid foundation and satisfying gameplay loop is going to be the difficult part of any game design experience. They have both those things already. They just need to the polish, stability and features to go with it. All those things will likely come with time.
Nice review, totally agree that the core gameplay is solid. The gunplay is some of the best in the coop shooter genre. However the performance issues are insane, and worse than the beta. There is a bug currently where the game is trying to force your GPU to use RTX even if your card doesn't support it (there is a reddit post with a fix you can do to the settings.config) but it seems rediculous to have to edit a notepad file to scrape back some performance on a "released" game. I have also noticed the same load time issue between the free and paid stores
As put off about the predatory monetization and cash shop as I am, nearly every problem I have with Darktide is something that can be fixed with future patches. Maybe they’ll even change the cash shop if people stay mad at Fatshark about it long enough. The core gameplay is solid and the art direction is some of the best I’ve seen in a 40k game, and those are the things that can’t really change once a game is out. It definitely needed more time in development but I think things will only get better from here.
I like how I cant buy individual pieces of a set with the preoder Aquilas. Or I havent figured out how.. I also like how the paid store is a reliable way to CTD for me. Every time I look at the expensive Veteran pack i get a CTD. So I just dont look at the store. They had the tanker/bomber jacket outfit.that was cheaper. Gameplay is solid. Lack of inventory unity sucks.few character slots sucks. Performance is asssss. Im on a 5600XT(Im brainfarting the exact CPU but its a Ryzen) and 32gb of.ram on an SSD. The load times ans even with up to date gfx drivers I still get random.performance issues like artifacting. Also the lack of crafting mats is aaaaaasssss. I cam never find the boxes. Those should be a little bit more bountiful and inventory sharing needs to be account wide so I can actually try other characters instead of maining one or two.
The only real issue I have with the game is the crummy monetization model for premium shop. I have a potato for a PC and mid internet…I have had no crashing for stuttering issues at all so far. The gameplay is great, the art style is awesome, and as you go up in difficulty you have to “learn the game” to not get stomped. The hate for this game is just as bad as the people who refuse to say anything bad about it at all. It’s a solid game. Not the best ever, but it’s far from bad.
It just sucks because people who don't have the game see the bad parts In all the reviews and say "oh ok, I'll just never get it" even though the gameplay Is what makes the game and everyone I see says It's great.
For me a pass. Cosmetics and working towards something is important for me, especially when you replay the same map again and again. Just getting some recolored cosmetics just doesnt do it for me and i feel like treated bad intentionally just because of the ingame premium shop. Plus the fact that the ingame ahop works perfectly but the game itself has performance problems. Maybe i will play it in a year or two if they change things and when the game is on sale.
I have never had the store load for such a long time. Both the stores load pretty much instantly for me, there is no difference. Personally, I don't care all that much for cosmetics, but I guess some people do. The end game content critique I agree with you though. It's a bit barren towards the end right now. If it's going to be like vermintide, they will be adding a lot of stuff in the future, still wish they would have done so from the start, but I think the game is still really fun.
I checked back through recorded footage to make sure I wasn't missing anything and the store seems to vary in terms of it's load times, but nothing has ever loaded instantly for me. I was originally thinking that the performance issues might be tided to my rig, but then it makes no sense that the In game store loads instantly on the same rig, so it's probably to do with their server side of things. That aside, the late game I'm sure will be great with more content added in future. The game will be supported for many years to come, and with that no doubt will be a large amount of end game content. New Classes, Maps, and probably some sort of game mode/missions to gain some other currency. There's plenty of space on the ship to expand into a variety of shops/spaces as they did with Vermintide. Just have to wait and see where they go with it. I'm keen to re-review it down the road.
1-30 and difficulty 1-3 is the tutorial the endgame is to become good enough for 5s. Difficulty 4 is the ”normal” 5 is hard. Lvl 3 is mostly for leveling up while 1 and 2 is for people who either dont like it Difficult or are new to the tide games. Im not trying to be elitist or so but the saying that its not the destination but the Journey that is the point, is very accurate for most people who play vermintide regularly and i do belive its gonna be the same for darktide. I do belive that the tecnical issues are gonna be fixed but its a fair point. Other than that, good video.
You loaded item shop in time of reset, that's why it took so long. Second thing is penances with cosmetic stuff that you do above lvl 30. Plz educate yourself before making vid.
Thank you for taking the time to comment, while I disagree with you, I will be checking out Darktide in the future again. I am aware of penances, however it's worth mentioning currently the currency doesn't actually do anything. In future I'm sure it will though! & i got all my toons to lvl 30 in a few weeks so boring the class trees suck to if this game was more like hellgate london i might stay but dont see the point & the shady cash shop red flag
The idiot die hards will defend it but its compeltely unaccetpable that day 1 patch introduced gigs worth premium currency shop in the update, but NOT THE CRAFTING. I seen a bunch of videos with people finishing tier 5 mission only getting 50 plasteel and 25 diamontide, what is the point then of even doing the max level missions... end game needs to take a real priority because after you hit 30 there is no point to play...
I got a refund of the game , because of the predatory store. But mugs will keep throwing money at them. This giving the studio to go ahead to treat their customers like shit.
Honestly why are ppl so worried about shit that has absolutely no berring on gameplay. Now if they had payed weapons or curios I would be pissed, but cosmetics? Dont care.
@@zomgz932 Because they are using a predatory and cynical methods to entice people to pay with their money. More over you are paying an extortionate amount for repeated copy and paste code. It's not like each one has to be physically reproduced or customised. So why are they charge something like £10 for a bundle, when really it should be 50p for a bundle seeing as they will sell them in the 1000's, but only producing each skin only once? It's just pure greed that only benefits the investors and gives the go ahead to keep on treating gamers like shit. I want to support this game. But I refuse to be treated like a c*nt. As there is a right way and a wrong way. You might be happy being treated like a mug, but I'm not. The money men have got their dirty little fingers into my past-time and think selling me half a game is okay.
@zomgz932 It’s less that the cash shop exists and more that it was implemented alongside a game that clearly needed a few more months in development to finish adding promised features, good as the core gameplay may be. It’s not a dealbreaker for me and the game isnt “bad” because it’s there, but its pretty distasteful and I think Fatshark deserves the bad PR for it.
