CRINGE. The gap between standalone, console and PC is closing. ??? Yeah, 10/10/23 was a day that will live in infamy. NVidia, AMD, Intel all just said lets just STOP developing any new tech. Sad day for gaming :(
I just got it and have no clue what these reviewers are talking about regarding FOV on the quest 3, i still have a quest 2 and immeaditly noticed the difference in the lens size. Quest 3 is noticibly bigger, and when setting the facial interface closest to my face, i looked harder to tell when comparing the valve index, not the quest 2. Compared to quest 2, the fov is a noticeable bump and looks much less like looking through binoculars.
The thing with VR headsets, is that bone structure and skull structure do affect the perceptual experience of a VR headset; so does the individuals perceptual system itself. These variables can make VR headset experiences highly subjective.
I think with the added cover as well as the bobo vr strap, he is a good deal further away from the lenses than he needs to be. If close to your face it's absolutely an improvement.
@@budbutterson9577 it is not that, but i am more pc player than vr user, i only use my rift sometime, so my priority going to my computer, maybe switch and after i will invest in vr vr is not bad, but it is just i really hate use it in summer and also after one hour it become to be hard to use it
My issue with quest is it doesnt have enough AAA games... completely understand people can hook it up to a computer but not everyone has a powerful enough computer - the quest arguably is an entry level VR headset but most of the games seem to be incomplete, experiences, or poor quality - theres only a handful of decent games. But the same can be said for PSVR. Sadly it doesnt have the commitment to bring better games which is why Meta keep pushing alternative experiences. Personally i love 3D movies and would love if they had a 3D movie store on the quest.
The mixed reality is what really sells me. So amazing to me and I probably would not buy it if it was just another VR headset. Hope Meta keeps expanding on it and adding more MR games and experiences. Thanks for the great review.
Just keep in mind it's very early so it won't be perfect and fast movements will cause a lot of warping. Also you will need the right lighting conditions for it to not be grainy. It does seem very cool though.
My Quest 3 is very responsive compared to my Q2. It is not perfect by any means though and I'd say probably 5-10 years before we get really good mixed reality devices and software. This is still the dawn of a new era as digital and physical slowly merge 😊
@@karkir-joharkarntkristkark9507 deckard is the new steam console. Many people thought it was a VR headset but alas the index is still the best on the market for PCVR
Great video I appreciate the complete honesty. Lots of people are disappointed with the quality of passthrough including myself. Guess we got dupped when all the recording quality was way more clear than what you actually experience. Oh well I’m not to setback by it but some people “literally wanna cry.. 😅” I bought the quest 2 and it was my first vr experience so of course it was amazing but sadly the novelty wore off rather quickly. Mainly due to tragic motion sickness. That stuff made me sick just thinking about wearing the headset. But I don’t think it helped that the headset was so top heavy and hot. I can proudly say tho the quest 3 did not give me motion sickness nearly as bad as quest 2. The strap is ok but the headset itself is a huge improvement as far as comfort and I think that goes a long way in sickness experiences. Overall it’s a nifty piece of tech and I’m a proud supporter of the continued development and evolution of the tech regardless of what company it’s coming from. Cheers
Nice to hear about the motion sickness. I've had a quest 1 and a quest 2 and always just end up getting bored and literally sick while playing most games, so I ended up selling them. Like you, even the thought of wearing one again makes me feel ill. I really don't think I'll ever enjoy full VR, but the MR really entices me to give it another try.
I dont think the price is slowing it down honestly. I went to best buy today and they were sold out. There are 5 in decent vicinity to me. There was only one store close by with any left. I was at the one store bought online for pickup in store at the other store and had the employee there call to get them to put the one i ordered back then so they didn't sell out before my order processed and they could grab it. The other store had 9 left, but they were kind enough to grab it anyway and by the time i got over there they had sold out also
Great review! I got mine in the mail yesterday and can't wait to play with it more - the pancake lenses are amazing! Not sure how so many people were expecting better passthrough in this price range - decent low-light cameras are the holy grail and usually run over $1000 for the body alone for a decent sensor size 😅
My tv has delay when using bluetooth headphones, but I fixed it by using an aptX bluetooth transmitter, then an aptX bluetooth receiver to plug the headphones into. Absolutely no lag. If the headphones already support aptX, then you just need the transmitter. The brand I bought was HomeSpot. Both transmitter and receiver need power though, so plug into a battery bank. My Anker 10000 has both usb-c for the headset, and a usb-a if needed for anything else.
One more thing to note, besides investing in a 3rd party head strap, I would also suggest investing in a third party facial interface. Not just the cushion, but the whole plastic insert the cushion goes on. I got an all in one kit made by AMVR on sale for $28. I think normal price is $35. Well worth it as the plastic interface piece has venting and flares out a bit more for a better seal and actually makes the FOV look better. The cushion that comes with it is miles better than the stock one.
Just got mine today and I honestly love it. I got a quest 2 last week with the Costco bundle deal to see if I was going to like it. I obviously did cause now I have the 3. A HUGE upside on the 3 vs the 2 is the much clearer picture. Text is easier to see and the blur I would notice on my 2 all of the time made me nauseas. No longer the case with the 3. That’s just me! That along with everything else that was improved is a huge plus.
Sadly this review doesn't give us anything new. It's the same as every other one regurgitating the Meta line. The only decent in-depth review is the one on Adam Savage's channel imo.
Coming from rift-S. The only downside (for now) is that running microsoft flight simulator, seem to run less efficient on quest 3 than on Rift S. I'm guessing due to USB - C. I'm hoping I can tweak it in a way that it works better than the rift-S. All other aspects are great.
@bartcoosemans6818 I am considering the same upgrade from rift s I know for Q3 on paper (almost?) everything is better than Rift S, but could you give me some highlight for what made the biggest wow for you? My current concerns are the Q3's headstrap, battery life (infinite on Rift S :D) and the PCVR over wifi (which RiftS doesn't have out of the box)
@@rize2137 Biggest wow is what you hear a lot... The image "crisp". The images are much better compared to the rift S. I got the elite strap so I cannot give my oppinion on the normal strap but the headset feels more comfortable to wear than the Rift S. Regarding the downsides, indeed as you mentioned, it is getting used to the battery life. Even when plugged in with the USB C into your PC (normal USB), it still drains the battery. I haven't tried a full gaming session to see how long it lasts, but coming from the Rift S, the battery is a downside. I have an external battery that I still have to try out on the quest but I need a longer usb C to usb C cable for that (and I woudln't be able to plug in both the battery and the pc since there is only one USB C). The second downside so far, is that MFS does'nt run as smooth it seems as mentioned due to the higher pixels, it takes more out of your PC (I got RTX 3080) however I'm currently using a cable to connect to the PC but the "VR desktop app" + using wifi 6 to connect wirelessly with your PC, would provide some tweaking oppertunities to get a better result. It would also mean I could charge up my Quest 3 with that external battery that I have... I have yet to test that out. This video was useful regarding MFS: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UVznwf0Z9h4.html&ab_channel=VRFlightSimGuy. All in all, I would recommend the headset still. If you have a very good PC and want to play PC games most of the time, you could look into the more expensive VR headsets though. I chose the quest 3 because I didn't wanted to upgrade my PC just yet and I wanted wireless to watch videos/series. From now on I am more inclined to purchase games in the Oculus store whereas until now I tried to purchase everything in Steam. That way, I'll have more wireless options to play. Most of the time I'll be playing at home though so it doesn't matter for me personally but a lot of games will not work on quest 3 standalone if you purchased them on PC (like beat saber).
@@rize2137 Idk if it was just me, but when I used the quest 2 on airlink the performance was alright ig, but the imagine quality wasn't really that good, and the image would randomly become pixelated. In general ur gonna notice the image compression even if u use a usb c. I want to buy a pcvr headset, but rn the consumer market only has two types of headsets. Standalone vr headsets, or enthusiast headsets (1000+$) I cant find a mid range pcvr other than maybe the hp reverb g2 which has shit controllers, so I dont want to buy it.
That's completely false. If anything the rubber silicone alternatives Meta offer will slip and slide when sweety, unless you plan on sharing the headset a lot, I would stick with the original or wait to see what VR Covers come up with.
I will just say we will always have a delay in sound when using Bluetooth because the program can't predict the future to start feeding you the sound that hasn't happened yet
74ipd user here and the headset is amazingly clear. Also you can actually scroll and select things in your quest menu by tapping it and sliding your finger over it (like a phone) if you are close enough to the menu that is. +1 for the Pardoes xD
I still use my old Quest 1 (early adopter) and i can also use finger tapping on menus and sliding with my finger (using last firmware 50 for Q1, no more new firmware for q1, sadly). But it still works.
Overall a very good review with an unnecessary click-bait title. Considering the short time the Meta 3 has been out it’s foolish to state that the cost is an issue for consumers. We won’t know that until after the holiday buying season.
I git my quest 3 today and i am really enjoying the MR experience. I am hoping to get the bobvr m3 whenever it is available hopefully soon the stock strap is better but still uncomfortable. Great review
I had Quest 1, 2x Quest 2s and I always had 1 dead pixel on every single on of them. Most probably I will skip this Generation, and with the frequency they reveal every single new gen, which starts to look like the smarthpones' lifecycle, I think I will wait for Quest 4
The quest 3 is definitely much clearer, however, I can still see the screen door effect. It still is not a replacement for the picture quality of a TV for movies.
sadly yes - but they are closing in every year more and more. There is a lot to expect for the future. The technology itself is in my opinion better than using a flat screen.
Your passthrough is not the quality of the passthrough on my Quest 3 unit, mine is terrible even in a well lit room. I plan on returning it as Meta and RU-vidrs are falsely advertising the quality.
So the thing that bothers me is that the Reviewers said that the pass through is good enough to be able to see and text on your cellphone... well that is CERTAINLY NOT true at all in my case. And anything I hold up close to my face whether in VR or MR is a blurry mess. Almost like I am far sighted( which I'm not) are these patchable or were we lied to?
Lied to? You can clearly see legible text in multiple video reviews when they give the texting on a phone example. Are you playing in the correct lighting conditions? Pass through works better with more natural light.
@@eon5323 the recording of passthrough footage does not look the same as if you were looking through the lenses yourself. Lighting conditions are fine. IPD setting is fine. If i turn my phones brightness all the way down to compensate the exposure then things become visible i guess but nothing like what people were talking about or what is shown in recordings. tried it in a few different rooms with different lighting conditions and even outside. Does not make any sense
Hello, i just want to tell you that i bought a quest 3 but i have issues with the audio it sounds very bad in all games i tryed reseting but it didnt work
Getting mine today. PC gamer taking first step in VR - after finding Index and other PC VR headsets too expensive and quest 2 lacking in quality needed. Plus the first color step in MR sold it to me as well. Quest 3 seems, to me at least, the headset I was looking for in terms of price and quality . Looking forward to getting it in a few hours !
Ordered from Amazon Germany a few weeks ago (512GB) and didn't receive it on the release date. New delivery date expected at the beginning of November! Incredibly bad handling on Meta's part. The cheap headsets are delivered before the expensive ones. So the kiddies get them first. In this way, you can also alienate wealthy customers and companies that use the more expensive Quest.
I am having the exact same issue in the UK with Amazon. I preorderd the 512Gb model on the 3rd Oct and there was no indication that there were any supply issues until I received an email from Amazon on the 9th. If I remember rightly, from my account, it looks like the 128Gb model has about double the number of orders as the 512Gb model when you look at each item page. That aside, I don't understand how this issue has arisen; surely Amazon must have known how many units they had in stock versus the number of preorders?? It's not like they are not already accustomed to this whole online retailer shenanigans.
TRUE. A lot of people gave up on Quest 2 after 6 months, bored and lack of content. Yes, and now think why PCVR users have been enjoying VR for several years and have no intention of stopping. Standalone is good, but only a "gateway-drug" good. And No, standalone will never have PCVR-standard games or thousands of mods worth playing.
I think its a bit overhyped, has some funny gymicks and is overall a little step forwards, but not that big stap forwards. A lot will be new but very quick boring or not up to expectation, also i think Meta left a lot on the table , like eyetracking ,a better headstrap etc. I am very interrested what other VR brands are putting on the table in the next year , like pico, Valve HTC and others. The market for VR is also divided and everyone has there own use preferenty and its not something you use everytime . Gamechanger? No, Overhyped ? Yes
Thank you so much for your honest review. I'm so glad there are at least a few content creators who don't praise everything META does. There must also be a critical side.
13:19 yes Echo Vr is back on the quest 3 😭 i buyed the quest 2 because the great picture Echo Vr of it on the box now i feel more home alone no zero gravity sport anymore
Thanks for an honest review! I think I will wait a few generations because there just isn't enough content, and creating AAA-level VR games is very challenging. While it's not a secret how it's done, it's difficult to implement game mechanics properly due to the player's increased freedom of movement and input. Not to mention the optimization issues you encounter.
AAA games also take at least a few years to make. It doesn't happen overnight. The devs needed to see VR was actually selling before committing both time and money into a project. But after 7 years of continuous growth, more studios are getting involved. Better games are already being developed, we just have to wait for them to be released.
Thanks for this! Covers all the bases without any extraneous talking. My Quest 3 should arrive tomorrow. It will be an upgrade from my Oculus Rift S so, at first, I'll probably be doing more PCVR than standalone. But I'm looking forward to exploring the standalone abilities. I didn't get an upgraded head strap, figuring that third-party options will be available at launch or soon after that are better value. I did get the official PC Link cable but I'll see if it's even needed or if Air Link is good enough. Having it charge while playing would be nice, though.
Honestly the headset isnt really a game changer in itself, but in the long haul it is. Going to take many iterations before a truly poweeful mobile headset comes along. However, for people like me its definitely a purchase. My quest 2 is on its last legs so i might as well upgrade
I like the size but I have to agree, Sony is the VR leader in the industry because all you need is a $450 PS5 Slim & you're good to go, with good graphics. This thing is too underpowered, it can't even run Resident Evil 7...
@KILLA-KLOWN I disagree actually. I do think meta is the frontrunner at least in terms of potential. Psvr has its own issues. Mobile obviously can't run because its... mobile lol. You can't compare each other. But I do hope console vr gets more popular and more improved as well. For now pcvr all the way for me.
@Critical_Chris I meant mine personally is. Battery isn't as good as it used to, screen doesn't look as good, tracking is getting worse. Etc. I've had it since it came out. Still works, just has issues at times.
Just got one today. Sort of overhyped... For a new device it's great. Thing is I have a Pico 4. Visuals are ok, but not much better than the Pico. So far I see the same red hue as the older Quest 2. Mixed reality is great. The spatial 3D is a step up. But the pass through is not as great as they make it out. Of course better then Quest 2. You will spend more for a new head strap. The stock one will annoy you after a while. Sound is good. They need to lower the price I think. Still testing it. Got the 128 GB version for now. FOV is better the Quest 2. The colors are blah. Anyone who says this thing is good for movies is overhyping it!!!! The best headset for movies out all I had is the Reverb G2. The Quest 3 is just ok. This like the Pico 4 is a stop gap, for me until a really good headset comes out. I have a feeling it will get old quick. Will see hot it goes. I really want the immersed Visor to be a reality!
I've only ever had the quest 1 2 and now 3 Tbh, movies looked great on Quest 2 for me when I played em on Bigscreen And 4k youtube videos looked amazing(on quest 2) Like watching anime in 4k Bigscreen was insane for my mind😂
I want to know, remember how you could change the resolution on the quest 2 using sidequest. (if you had a computer we’ve all done this at least once) how long would the battery last if you put the quest 2 res on 3?
Thanks for the great review. Mine arrives tomorrow. I sold my Quest 2 a few months ago so I'm looking forward to playing my favorite games like Golf + and Eleven Table Tennis. I'm aware that it will take time for interested developers to upgrade some games and develop new games that will take advantage of the better resolution but I think it's worth it to be patient.
People are so stupid , just bcz it’s new doesn’t mean u have to praise it like it’s perfect and it has no downside. It has multiple downsides and we deserve to hear about them from the beginning not just later when the dust has settled , consoomerism mindset is cancer. You showed the fov wrong, the lens through feature was straight out of their advert and nothing like it really looks like. Why do u guys hype meta so much, u get money ?
all they gotta do is change the pass through cameras to at least 12-16 megapixels and then it should be clear. also add sensors on the top and bottom of the headset and sides for better overall tracking
Is it still posible to down load games from the meta app without headset or does the headset need to be present to transfer games to oculus 3 Plz like so this can be seen
The original strap does a lot more than what you seem to dismiss, too many vr content creators fail to make sense of why Meta uses these straps as default and allows replacements of them. Firstly, they are far more comfortable for non-active use, when laying down, resting, etc, the straps do not effect comfort when on pillows or resting on couches. No other VR headset is more comfortable than the Quest 2 and now 3 when resting, if you're more active, then the elite strap was design straight away as that said replacement. Obviously these items have updated as reviews have certainly affected decisions, but not replacement.
