The bad ass nanny in the car with M is almost the same bad ass nanny that is protecting Gully from the werewolf trackers in Battle Chasers #0

Side note: That was Bill Sienkiewicz who provided the Maximum Carnage artwork.

This is hugely nostalgic for me as this was the first X-Men comic that I bought. I always hear about people saying that they can't get into comics because they don't know where to start. That's bs as 10 year old me started with the beginning of a line wide crossover.

Both Joe Mad and Adam Warren would then go on to do several covers for PSM (100% Independent Playstation Magazine).

I miss the days where I'd get those mags, instead of knowing everything, and info being spoiled online instantly, the way it is now. Also, those awesome art covers!

As a 12 year old Joe Mad was the LeBron James of art.

Joe Mad’s style was the perfect pairing with the Fox Animated series. It just leapt off the pages at you with that fusion anime style. Pretty ground breaking and something that only could have happened precisely at that period where cartoons, video games and anime were all interconnected. Tragically that same allure of video games stole Mad’s productivity away from the comics industry.

You should do a series dedicated to an artist or writer. This episode was so good, I wouldn't mind to see more videos on Joe Madureira's work. Something like those "visionaries" marvel books.

And in years, he changed and improved his style & art as well. Most artists don't do. That's also what i liked about him.

I remember this era but I was pretty much out of the lcs weekly by this point. I think i have a whole set of these Phalanx books in the wrap unopened, I only started paying attn again when the 340’s leveled up and Joe Mad hit his stride. His Gambit & Rogue was something ELSE by issues 348 & 350, and to be honest the storyline was about finding more of Remy’s past with Sinister i think, which is actually kinda great in retrospect

There's a mistake about the colorist on Joe Madureira's run : the Uncanny X-men were colored by Steve Bucellato, who also did the ones in Generation X and some colors on Scott Pilgrim as mentioned in the next video. Liquid (aka Christian Lichtner and Aron Lusen) only colored Battle Chasers and tons of his various covers, and Lichtner did the colors for Mad's Ultimates 3 run. + Bryan Lee O'Malley mentioned Akiman and Bengus, two famous character designer on the Street Fighter series, as an influence to Joe Mad, well he named the two characters following Red Monika in BC after them.

Really hated Joe Madureira's style back then and stopped buying X-titles back then because of it. For me it just didn't fit with what I thought X-Men should look like, as it was so different from the Silvestri-Lee-Portacio era. I still don't like it there, but his stuff on Battle Chasers was beautiful. This was that middle-ground between manga and american comics that just didn't meld for me. Even though I liked both separately. And that went up until sometime in the 2000s with videogames like Jak & Daxter.

Guys I need your help. I'm trying to convince a co-worker of mine that it is a bad idea to have a comic book named after us or even that we are the stars of. He's a 50 some year old perverted guy and I'm a late 30s guy who's somewhat of a nerd and dates younger women. We work in the kitchen of a retirement home and we joke about pretty much anything and everything.

Unpopular opinion but when it came to Joe Madureira, the more he developed his own unique style over the years, the less I liked it. =P
