We recorded this conversation and I intended to tidy it up and lay some footage over it but I thought I should leave it alone and let it onto RU-vid just as it is.
Bryan came to a sheep and cattle dog training clinic i was doing in Nevada while I was staying with my friend Haley Hunewill. I was delighted to hear that Bryan had worked with another cowboy trainer and clinician and student friend of Tom and Bill Dorrance, Mr Ray Hunt.
I had heard of all three about 25 year ago but a couple of things Ray said were foundational to my philosophy on sheepdog training, so I couldn't wait to meet Bryan.
Bryan also trains cattle dogs in California and frequently sells at Red Bluff and has top the sale there a number of times
If going to see Bryan had been the only reason I had travelled from Ireland all the way to Nevada, well it would have been worth it just for the conversations I got to have with him over the couple of days.
I really look forward to getting to talk to him again. For me, talking with fellows like Bryan, is one of those things I value for a lifetime.

I was blessed with sharing my life with a Mustang I adopted after Bryan did a demonstration with him at a show in 1988. 6 years old, just gathered and gelded. He sure gave that horse a great start. I recently had to put him down because of cancer but I’ve always been thankful for the head start he gave me and that horse.

Thanks Mike. I think it might have been my favourite one to get. I am very glad I asked Bryan if he'd do it because it is real easy to procrastinate and wait for a better moment to ask (that never comes 😆)

Thank you so much for recording this conversation for the benefit of all of us. It's wonderful to hear a few of Bryan's memories of Bill and Tom Dorrance, and Ray Hunt. There is a sort of lineage of horsemanship from these old-timers that continues to water the roots of young riders to this day. As Bill Dorrance said about "feel," it is a gift a friend can pass along to a friend; it can't be sold.

Bryan talks about how it was a privilage to be in the company of those boys, but for me, it was a privilage to meet and talk with Bryan. Seemed too important not to record a little bit of it ha

Many thanks for the words from Mr. Bryan Neubert. It is always really how he tells everything as he went through life with riders who created natural riding, their thoughts became reality. This is the message ... Master Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt, Bill Dorrance and other great riders they worked with. Big thanks.

I'm very glad for being exposed to Bryan throughout a few years. The things he does with a horse, he does so easily. The main thing for me is that he fits the horse and has caused me to be so much more observant and aware and to adjust myself to the situation.

Amazing interview. As someone who has started and trained quite a few young horses, bird dogs, and basic obedience dogs, there have been many times I have seen the parallels of training horses and dogs. Although I had never heard of Brian, my father learned from reading and studying many of the training techniques of horsemen like Hunt and Dorrance and passed that knowledge on to me. He also taught me so much about training bird dogs and hounds as a young child. Thanks for sharing Paddy, and if you ever have a clinic in the eastern US I would like to attend as you’re very knowledgeable and I’m training my first collie.

I should ad that passing this knowledge on is so important. One of my mentors was Al Grandchamp who was teaching me when he was 100 yrs old. It is gratifying to help others learn and continue to learn myself.

I think it's pretty disrespectful (woman in the background) to yappin around. I think she must be aware that filming is going on. Very annoying

Well I wouldn't say anyone noticed us really. It's 8am or abit after it and people are probably waiting for us to get started, so truth is I'm probably stealing abit of time they've paid for, to get this interview ha!

And its funny for me too where Bryan says that if Tom was there at lunch, no one would even know he ever rode a horse..But that's exactly how Bryan was too lol.. id say most people there, never realised the depth of the fellow they were sitting beside

@@ChurchmountSheepdogs For me, Tom Dorrance is my hero. Forever. And I love both books, Tom's and Bill's. And Ray Hunt is my hero too. "You work on yourself, not the horse" and "Confidence is knowing you're prepared for the unthinkable" This guys showed me the way to Personal Growth and Leadership. I now teach theirs and Buck's wisdom with Equine Assisted Learning for non horsey people
