I’m in the US and discovered Vicious a few years ago, and fell in love with Ash. Then a couple of years later came Ramsay. 😮 Such vastly different characters, played in such a beautiful way.

If you haven't already, please watch him in Misfits, he is phenomenal. It's a very British dark comedic twist on the super powers gifted to societal low lives on unpaid work as punishment for various minor misdemeanors. I won't spoil any of the MANY twists and silliness' here for those who have not yet seen it, but Iwan gets to play an exceptional individual and you see his character change and develop before your eyes, amazing. So very worth watching. You will not regret it as a binge watch, slow to develop but layers upon layers built into very British twisted humour. Enjoy!

@@mary4wild235 Great idea! You will not be disappointed. It's full of super odd dark humour, twisted themes, in jokes that repeat and reoccur, and (my favourite part) you will want to immediately re-watch it after your first watch because of the long story running deep beneath the surface and all the bits that'll make sense on second/third watching. Some of the little insider jokes and silly catchphrases I've heard used elsewhere or seen on a badge on a backpack (I'll just say "Monkey-Sluts!" for now, so as not to spoil anything) of a fan of the show and started smiling and giggling quietly to myself that someone else still loves that series or has started some great conversations in pubs... And yes, I am going to start re-watching it again this weekend now I've been talking about it! Enjoy... 😁

Those who are about to die is actually great. Thought it might be a bit of a Gladiator rip off or jumping on the old Rome and GoT bandwaggon but it is genuinely its own thing. The effects are not great, i will say that and some of the writing is convoluted but couldn't fault the acting or world building. Iwan is the 'main' character in a massive ensamble and holds it all together very well. Glad to see him carrying shows like this. We knew he had it in him, right back to Misfits. Hope to see another series.
@Katie-j8w
@Katie-j8w Месяц назад
It’s not a rip off of anything. I really hate when people claim that as some kind of description of it, just because it maybe reminded you of other time period set stories. This series not only shows corruption and deceit, and ambitious, power hungry characters, but it depicts a different side of Rome, the kind of dirty, gritty world underneath the wealth and power. Almost like the criminal underworld of it. It’s just its own story set in Ancient Rome, and happens to have gladiators and the games as a part of it. You can find similarities in themes, or movies, or shows set in the same time period all the time, but not enough talk about all the ways they’re different. It’s not trying to be Game of Thrones or the movie Gladiator. A large part of why people make comparisons to GoT is also because Iwan Rheon also played Ramsay Bolton. Yet even Tenax who he’s playing has big differences.

@Katie-j8w Месяц назад
@@lrdr5404anyone who came here and actually watched and listened to the interview could figure out he was talking about the Game of Thrones fictional arranged marriage between Sansa and Ramsay, and the wedding night rape scene. If anyone needed further clarification that it was referring to a tv show, they’re as much of an idiot as all the people who can’t separate actor from character. By the way, Iwan Rheon has frequently talked about how awful and uncomfortable that whole wedding storyline was, and how he really didn’t want to play him in those moments of Ramsay’s abuse and cruelty. Also he does actually say “I don’t think I’ve ever even played anyone married, oh no I did, but it was horrible.”

@@Katie-j8w You reckon? I mean, it's not bad, but I dunno, the writing just wasn't really good enough to elevate it above the level of 'okay', IMO. It was just a standard, gently amusing sitcom. @@DodderingOldManok I think that’s underselling it a bit. Maybe it’s just not everyone’s kind of thing, humor, banter. I thought it was really funny. Maybe it’s surprising it’s so underrated or not as known about, obviously given the actors it has in the cast. I kind of like that about it.
@Katie-j8w
@Katie-j8w Месяц назад
@@DodderingOldMan and the thing I’m saying is underselling it, or I guess understating it I should say rather, is the line saying it was disappointing, or it’s just ok. No, I actually do disagree there. I have mostly seen people loving and laughing at Vicious, unless they get offended at dark humor, and satire, and stuff. I mean the creator of it I think did Family Guy also. It may not have been the biggest show in comparison to something like Game of Thrones, and the banter and humor again may not be for everyone, but still had to be pretty good and funny to appeal to and attract names like Sir Ian McKellen, and Sir Derek Jacobi, and Frances de la Tour. I think you probably do have to have a darker or dirty sense of humor for it too. Again, there’s something I like about it being an underrated sitcom about a gay elderly British couple who just constantly bicker and make fun of each other, but love each other too. Then the completely wild, inappropriate friend, and the happy, lovable neighbor.
