Love the use of that word, debonair. Naturally, it rhymes with hair. Some of these '50s and '60s commercials were so cheesy, they were fun to watch! More use of cartoon-ish animation, which is one reason why they were so much more fun than the commercials today.
Somebody could probably make some money tying that slogan to the practice of dabbing hash oil (thc). ‘Course, their target market would be guys over like 60, and how many of those do dabs? 😆
I remember the Brylcream commercials as a child in the early 60's, including the stop-action claymation annimated ads. As cute as the jingle was catchy. The Golden Age of Advertising is just a memory...wish today's commercials were as imaginative.
Sell line. The sell line is A dab will do ya. Which is recommended as only a small application of this product is all you need to comb your hair with and train your hair with this product.
When I was 9 years old, my teacher said I would be bald by the time I was '21' if I kept using Brylcreem..Well I'm 56, heaps of hair and it's still dark.... lot she bloody knew....
Yeap, pretty much. Hair gels for men were beginning to take over. Nobody wanted that slicked down hair do's anymore, hence the sayin, The wet head is dead.
It's great that they still sell this stuff. I live in Canada and I bought a jar at Walmart the other day for six bucks. I have short black hair, and I don't part it but I comb it to the side.
They sell the British Brylcream in a jar to. It's a lot less greesy than the American one, as I understand it. I would much prefer the British jar much better as I'm not into putting to much of this stuff in my hair. Only once a week, if that with every other day hair washings, that's the way your suppose to use this and other men's hair dressings, hair loations that are designed specifically for men. However, now in days, there's not much choice any longer as mens hair loations and hair dressings are all fading away, and that ain't at all good.
My brother and I did the same thing we were about 11 or 12... but we overdid it a bit with our thick hair... grandpa was rather amused with us trying to be grown up.. but grandma wasn’t too amused with all the “ greasy goop” as she called it in our hair.. she didn’t want our pillows full of it. She always would shampoo our hair .. but I remember that night at the kitchen sink my brother and I got one of her heavy duty red scalp shampooings ..
John Grove only once a week is all you need of this product, plus washing your hair at least every other day. That's how to use this product and other hair dressing products for men is suppose to be used. Only once a week with every other day shampooing of your hair.
Coworker of mine used to sing this when we'd smoke cannabis concentrate on our breaks, never got the reference till now. Hopefully you're safe out there James
The best product in the world for your hair! And no it isnt't as greasy as a lot of peoples think. I use brylcreem for 2 years now and I have receive a lot of compliment from peoples. My hair look the same way that in the vidéo.
I was born in 1950 and had two older brothers. Our Dad used it (Alberto VO5 Conditioner hair cream and Vitalis, too), and he got us kids using Brylcreem. BUT, if ya use it like it says, A LITTLE DAB, your hair was NOT greasy. People that used it and said it was greasy, must've been using way too much. A 'dab' is like a 1/4" long or so, not an INCH or whatever. When I have 'dry' hair (even with using a shampoo and conditioner), I will use ALBERTO VO5 CONDITIONER hair cream. Buy it the cheapest at Walmart,,,it's in a black and tan box. Depending how thick and how much hair you have, I personally use that 'dab' amount,,,,about a 1/4" long out of the tube. One tube lasts me nearly a year at that rate, and usually lasts for days or until the next time I do my hair. (2-3 weeks later,,,,lol)
The problem with most of these sweet smelling products is that they attract fruit flies like a magnet. There is nothing like trying to hit a golf ball with a cloud of gnats swarming around your head and in your eyes. Groom and Clean gel was extra nasty.
Correct in what you are saying, only a very small amount is only needed, and you only use it once a week, with hair shampoos every other day. I've watched a commercial with Bart Starr from the 50's and the guy next to him was putting hair cream from one end of his palm to the other side of his palm, no wonder it's termed, greesey kid stuff. He has the other guy and him comb their hair, the other guys comb was full of the hair cream, while Bart Starr had the guy rinse his hair of the cream, as if that was going to rid him of all the cream from his hair. Then Ole Bart Starr rubs his hair for his 60 second workout. Now Vitalis is excellent, with a great masculine scent, as with anything else, you only use it once a week, and only sparingly, you don't put the whole bottle of hair loation on your head, or the whole tube of hair cream on your head, just only small applications are needed and are necessary.
0:24 Has anyone noticed how cool he'd look in 2017 if he were smiling at that moment. I'm sure plenty of young people spend tons of money on gels, waxes, hours combing just to get that perfectly messy look.
It's funny how, back then people cared about keeping their hair tidy and neatly combed but nowadays people want to have messy bed hair. I would have messy hair myself but my father always questions my taste of having it messy rather than doing it in a old fashioned elephant trunk pompadour.
Brylcreem was my favorite hair creame (Top Brass was second -- and Crisco cooking grease worked in a pinch!). When I wore a flat-top for a while and used that orangish colored Butch Wax and a brush (small brush I always carried) to comb the hair straight up all around. Though I still have a full head of hair, I wouldn't think of putting that stuff in it today.
1royalpalm Top Brass was an excellent mens hair cream. Sadly, Revlon discontinued making it. Always the best things get taken off the market or discontinued.
@@danbasta3677 I stated why I used it (in a pinch when I ran out of Brylcreem). Crisco, being greasy (similar to Brylcreem), it held my combed up Elvis styled hair and duck tails in place. Resorting to the use of Crisco was a matter of expedience.
They were the days. I wore brylcreem to primary school because my dad wore it. Looking at my old school photos and showing my daughter last night and explained brylcream. haha. Found this today. I developed from that to long hair in the 70.s to a mohawk in the 80.s and Military after that. Now no hair to do anything with. So shave the whole bloody lot of now. was all good back then though.
My dad used this stuff when I was a kid. It did have a smell but I wouldn't call it Pleasant. I tried it once myself when I was little cuz I want to be just like dad and my hair is greasy for 2 or 3 days
Snicker, back when (1964 or so) I went from flat top to some kind of longer hair I tried Brylcreem for a while till one day I mistook for toothpaste! That was that, I've suffered from dry hair ever since and it hasn't slowed me down a bit. :-)
I think it depends on each person and the sort of hair they have. You just have to try it both ways and find out. I always use it after my hair has dried off.
Correct in your assessment here. All depends upon the type of hair you have. This product, as tte instructions say, you only use a small application and that's it. It is primarily designed to help comb your hair, or make combing your hair more simpler and also to train your hair to the desired hairstyle that suite you. Every other day hair washings and once a week usage of this product is the way to go with this product.
Its amazing how memes work. Like I must have picked this up by as osmosis because I've never heard of bryl cream. .but I do know the 'little dab will do ya' slogan.
Dorothyellen w only designed to use once a week which is sufficent. Washing your hair every other day is what your suppose to do especially for cleanliness reasons. This and other men's hairdressings, and there arn't many of them around anymore these days, were only ment as stated before, once a week usage, and used pretty much to train your hair to a specific hairstyle for an individuals preferance.
AnJoMa Debateable. Wildroot, only using just a small application is just as good. Just depends on how much you use, and only using it once a week, washing your hair at least every other day.
