Ive never seen a documentary where I couldnt keep my mouth closed. The running over ducks, beating his wife, jumping a homeless man, taking over his dead mothers non profit and using it to take out loans and steal money. Making kids take out ppp loans illegally and getting evictions on all their records. I have never been so terrified of a human being in my life

If hell exists, this man deserves a first class ticket ride straight to its deepest level. Every time you heard something bad about him, it just got continuously worse. And taking out multiple PPP loans in those kid's names and knowingly defaulting on them will ruin their credit for decades if they can't pay them off.

The documentary doesn't get into it, but a lot of the times Roy was able to fly him and the kids out to games because these top tier schools were desperate to find other schools to compete with that they would send Roy travel vouchers. Which were given out like candy during covid

Something that I think is overlooked with some of the players for that year is that most were only a year removed from high school. This was following a pandemic that likely killed their senior season. I know for sure this was true for the quarterback, came from California where the season was delayed until the spring and got about 5 weeks long in the best of circumstances. There was even club football teams that were equally as shady as BS that was going on throughout the fall winter earlier in the year. I can see how kids and parents could get desperate as their window of opportunity was closing to get into any college football program let alone a P5.

Great review, great point about this being the reality of charter schools. That’s why they’re being pushed so hard, so private businesses can siphon public school funding while undermining their capabilities and controlling what’s being taught (see Florida and the grandmasters of this the Devos family)

Enjoyed the review and the doc. I'm listening to the companion pod and in episode 2 around the 14:15 mark the director indicates that the head coach recommended certain players to speak with. Is is implied that the reason the asshat of a coach broke down was because he lost composure due to recommending the kid that talked down to him.

Every single second of this dude is reminding me of my recently deceased father. I haven't cried over his ass, and the behavior of this man is a perfect lens as to why.
