I have seen Catch Wrestlers and Judo practitioners use these moves. Especially the lock flow in the Kesa- Gatame. Bas Rutten was known to have used the chest compression of holding both of his thighs. Any technique that works is something to put in one's own repertoire to become a better grappler is a big positive.

First time I passed out was from that baseball bat choke from bottom (s-grip whatever thing) in no-gi. I wasn't even feeling it as a choke, so by the time I realized it's dangerous i only got to raise my arm, and then I woke up on the floor. So yeah, that one works for sure. :P

Did MMA for 7 years and it's incredible how there are hundreds of chain linked moves in jiu jitsu that just ordinarily compliment one another. Had to stop training three years ago because of personal reasons but I think and hope in 1 more year to be back to the beloved mats, till then i have my utube tutorials and Knight Jiu Jitsu vids are like top 5 of my faves list! (there are some incredible channels out there!!) in judo, i can't count any more the number of people who did the leg shake on my face to finish juji gatame, but none of them succeeded. i guess i doesn't phase me because i have some experience with taking much harder hits in the head than a simple shaky leg, and since their leg is not controlling my head anymore, i simply push it over my head and stand up. one of the thing that helped me a lot for grappling styles is mountain climbing, because it gives a good grip that simply never let go, and get you used to dynamic balance on your four limbs for ground works. most of the time, when i do newaza in judo, i only think of how to climb around the guy before going for submission.

The first few I learned in Catch. The armbar I learned in the Fadda system but can I make a suggestion. We were taught instead of trying to rely on just our two hands and strength, use your other leg and kick your attacked leg away at the ankle/calf as you take the arm. Much easier and faster, especially against strong guys.
@SebastianHay
@SebastianHay 6 лет назад
my coach taught us similar with the final move but with only 1-2 stronger kicks and leaning away from the head a bit as they will often follow up and get bumped by the back of your leg for their efforts - calls it the elvis presley

The first move Erik Paulson calls, "Mother's Milk." Lol! The last one I saw first in the 90s at VB (though I haven't seen anyone use it for a long time) . Probably because it pissed so many people off! ;-) I think the worst one that makes the most people angry is in the gi, from the guard, grab both lapels (right grabs right and left grabs left) a few inches or so down. and using the blade of the foot in the neck to choke. Something about "foot on neck" that really gets under ppls skin! :-)

Has anyone ever got the baseball bat finish (nogi or gi) starting it in bottom mount, as opposed to starting it during the guard pass or bottom side? I guess your arm would be in danger for a moment starting there because of how high your arm is, but maybe when you are elbow escaping you switch to it? I don't know, just a thought I has rewatching this

I train Catch and I really appreciate that Bjj guys are integrating some of our techniques into their game. Its still quite different though, I can tell by the positioning etc. I love training Catch, the only problem is that 99% of the submission grappling community does Bjj and sometimes it feels like we are speaking different languages unless I can show them what I do on the mat. The bad thing about training Catch, when we train in a gym with other Catch wrestlers, is that we get a bit unfamiliar with things bjj guys do because we aren't in those positions as often. The good thing is that we are way more familiar with their game than they are with ours. Another bad thing is we are basically forced to compete in no gi bjj, and most of our basic go to holds are banned. Its weird for me to not neck crank because neck cranks are like 50% of my subs and toe holds are another huge percentage. Chokes and arm bars, not so much, but they are the subs I can go for in tournaments. I'm not at the expert level yet. It'll be great for us when Catch Wrestling competitions become more common and available.

Jason Wadkins I saw that also, where Bas held both of his thighs for the compression. People who were taught by Billy Robinson have referenced the move, like Josh Barnett and Harry Smith, when demonstrating lock flow. Erik Paulson does a move that is similar to a head and arm triangle, but can use the index finger and thumb to pinch the nose. Comical looking yes, but when a person is already gasping for air, then it becomes effective.
