When deciding what I think are the most important escapes that people should learn early on in their training, I considered things positionally. The big 4 positions you’ll spend the most time in are mount, side control, guard and back mount. Being on the losing end of these sucks. Learning how to escape these positions is one of the most useful ways to spend your training time.
In this video, I show what I consider to be the most useful and helpful escapes from these positions.
• Upa Escape from Mount
• Elbow Escape from Mount
• Guard Replacement from Side Control
• Back Mount Escape
• Knee Cut Guard Pass
I hope this video is helpful. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Thank you all for watching!

These are slightly different than what I am currently being taught as a beginner white belt. I intend to try them as an alternative when the others "don't work" when I have a chance. I really like that they are not gi grip dependent as using gi grips is still one of many things I am struggling to learn effectively.
@CrystaTiBoha

I understand that you are teaching principles of how human bodies can move and operate against each other in a certain type of combat scenarios, and there is much to be shown about such a complex topic. What seems strange to me however, is that there isn't a flood of fools criticizing you for "doing too many steps without the adversary doing anything" and "this will never work in a real fight against a non-cooperative adversary", as can be seen on in comment sections of some other taijutsu schools.
@KnightJiuJitsu

I get those comments from time to time for sure, but I think I tend to frame the context and include just enough details as to not overwhelm. I try to anyway. 🙏

As always, great 👍🏼 stuff - 2 questions: for the trap & roll from Bottom of Mount, I was taught to look the opposite direction from the way you are rolling - thoughts 💭? Also, defending the RNC, I was taught to go down to the choking arm side as well, the way you show, but I’ve seen others prefer the other non-choking arm side?

It always used to be in Self-Defense that a flat leg went over the calf and knee to bridge and roll. Now it is always the foot step over and not the press of the back of the thigh on the leg! You always see now the step over! Also can you demonstrate some full back mount flattened out escape ideas! Some with cranks and rear chokes on!

@BecozPro
@BecozPro 5 лет назад
I wanted to ask your opinion on a detail with sweeping from mount to inside closed guard. I've seen it taught differently in combative/self defence context versus sport BJJ context. So you're under mount, you trap an arm and a leg and then you roll them over so you end up inside their closed guard. In the video here, you sat up straight away. I've seen in self defence context a focus on preventing your opponent shrimping to get their shin across your stomach so that they can't kick you away with that leg. If you sit up straight away then it is an option that someone could do, albeit probably not a very common response. I've never seen this consideration dealt with in sport bjj (other than being wary of the shin across the belly being the first signs of an incoming scissor sweep). What are your thoughts on this? I know in the video you mentioned briefly that how you would handle being in closed guard would vary by ruleset, but what are some considerations you would need in a self defence context when "escaping" from closed guard? Even though the chances are low of someone shrimping then pushing you away with the shin before sending kicks at you, is it still something worth considering? Thanks for the great content as per!
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 5 лет назад
In most contexts (although I sit up right away in this video) I prefer to stay initially low and monitor the arms of the bottom opponent with my hands (wrists). I would wait for the appropriate time to posture up. My biggest concern in a self defense context would be less on the leg coming in to kick like that, as it wouldn’t probably have much on it, and more on sitting up too soon and eating some shots from the bottom opponent. You can check out my video on guard pass options for no rules situations and I think it might address what I’m talking about better.
@BecozPro
@BecozPro 5 лет назад
@@KnightJiuJitsu I've found that if you can get a shin across the stomach and bridge to get your hips you can create a decent amount of space and (usually) get a foot online to deliver a fairly meaty kick after the fact. Granted that was all in a controlled environment. Thanks, I'll take a look later. Keep doing what you're doing, I really love the content you make!

How do you escape mount if they hook-and-post? I've only taken like eight classes but seems the most common thing to happen is when I get mounted I can't escape once my head being held/controlled in any way.
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 3 года назад
If they are sufficiently hooking and posting, that means they are low and wide in their mount. In this case, you should look to elbow escape. There are lots of elbow escape variations that can work for this, depending on the energy you’re receiving.
