Next stage with the BSA engine now the crank is sorted. Introduction to the engine I'm working on and sorting out the misaligned cam bushes. I seem to have done a few BSA cam bushes recently so this time I have done a better explanation of how I approach the job.
This engine is just a repair of an already completed roller conversion, clearly done some time ago. It is in the style of a Devimead/SRM conversion but I do not think it is one of theirs, the engine mods are different in some aspects and I feel the SRM work is of much higher quality and finish from what I have seen. If anyone has an idea of who may have done this job, shout up.
This is part one of a series on the A7/A10 engine, I have some parts to play with now so we'll have a go at the timing side roller conversion soon, and we'll work through the job together.
All the best, stay away from that bat lurgy and I'll catch you all soon,
Ade.
UPDATE: I have just re-watched the video and realised the oil pressure relief path is through that passage I poked the wire down from where the PRV is to the feed tube, DUH!
Also noticed the last 2 clips are in the wrong order, double DUH....I'm out of practice, hey ho.

This is excellent content, I must say it looks like a scabby old engine and who ever did the original mods was having a laugh, Thanks for sharing Ade look forward to your next one

I've got the bottom end of a A10 Rocket, to rebuild for a customer, so your video is a great help. Particularly liked the customised boring bar, thanks

I can see that line boring bar would work a treat with remachining mismatched cases. Great solution as usual.

Thanks for the comments. The boring bar could probably be used in a drill press or even a hand held drill at a push as it is well guided by the double bushes on the timing side. Regards, Ade

Hello Ade. You sneaked up on me there. I hadn't noticed that you had started the videos again. Glad to see you back. Now we need to stir up Shedbuilt Dave and get him working regularly.

Michael hello! Yes this bat lurgy has it's advantages, more time for the workshop. Wish I was retired, but alas, the day job has to take preference. I had noticed Dave has gone quiet, hope he is OK. Your YamBSAki is looking great, I'm still keeping up, I love your dedication to the cause, send me a bottle of it over! Stay tuned for what should be a popular video series I hope as I delve into the holy grail of BSA mods: the A group timing side roller conversion, and film it step by step so every A10 owner can do their own, simple really ;-) . Catch you soon, best wishes from sunny Staffordshire, Ade.

Oil gallys appear a Rube Goldberg affair. What really was wrong with the OE busing affari if the motor was tended with a good oil change interval?

As the Lipton would say, "SWEEET", Funny it looked like that boring bar should have run the other way, a trick of the light playing with grind facets clearly or not as the case might be. 😀
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering 4 года назад
Ha, the observant one, you know what, when I was editing I thought the same and went back into the workshop to check myself, an illusion, rotation was still forward and the grind is correct! Cheers Chris.

What a great video. Do you provide these services for paying customers? My A10 has just failed on the original bush so it needs the needle roller bearing conversion.

Would you recommend this modification to someone that is about to start a rebuild?Do the benefits outweigh the work involved?
@AGEngineering
@AGEngineering 4 года назад
Great question, thank you. This is a choice someone must make after taking into account many things: 1. What am I using the bike for, road occasionally or lots of miles. 2. Am I a sedate or hard rider. 3. Will the bike get regular maintenance and oil changes 4. Is it for racing or sidecar use 5. Can I do it myself or do I have to pay a fortune 6. Is the original case bore for the bush worn or misaligned, would a roller be a good way to cure this 7. Is the crank main journal worn past bush sizes or damaged, would a roller cure this 8. Do I like the idea of experimenting with/improving my engine and probably many more. I have some parts gathered to 'play' with that would otherwise probably be scrap or never make it to a bike, I believe I have the ablity to do this conversion and would like to rise to the challenge, so I'm going to do a version of this conversion and do it step by step so others can make a more informed decision, or have a go if the wish, the choice is an individual one. Thanks for watching, look forward to your comments in future episodes, Ade.
