Previously, my ride on the new BSA Goldstar 650, was in cold, damp and slippery conditions. Here we get to go on an extended ride, through rural Cheshire. Riding along fast sweeping A roads, and narrow country lanes, in beautiful spring sunshine.
A couple of times I suggest/mention that the Goldstar has a 6 speed gearbox, well, that is a mistake, it only had 5 gears. Sorry about that !
We visit Peckforton Castle, which was completed in 1851 for John Tollemache, not as a fortress, but as a home in the style of a medieval castle.
We then move on, to the Gate of Beeston Castle. The castle was built in the 1220's by Ranulf, the Earl of Chester. Henry the 3rd, seized the castle in 1237, and it remained in royal ownership until the 16th century.
From there. we go to Bickerton Hills. Part of the Sandstone Trail, where we end this part of the ride. Please also watch Part Two, where we ride on some more narrow lanes, passing Cholmondeley Castle, which was unfortunately closed today.
