BSA oil block machining #1

Finally an update on the BSA main bearing conversion! I managed to start the machining of the oil feed block. This video shows some of the not so orthodox methods I used that may be of use to someone in the future?
This is very much throwing ideas about and experimenting. I can see as the machining progresses a much simpler way of making the feed block from billet, but I needed to get to this MK1 version to establish some critical dimensions, not easy on 3 different hole centres, at different heights, inside a confined timing cover with it's cover on!
Thank you to those who are still following the series, keep watching, there's more 'development' work to come.
Regards, Ade

Thanks Ade, make it as long winded as you like, I'm enjoying every minute of this project. It's really beginning to come together now. Best wishes, Dean in Oxfordshire.

Excellent stuff. I'm really enjoying and learning a lot from this modification and your thought processes. By the way I've now watched every one of your videos from the first ever to this one and the shop tour. I have done four separate isolations for work and your videos kept me sane! Look forward to the next bit.

What a lot of work, still it should be worth it.

It's all leading up to a very simple block made from billet now I can see the 'space' I have to work with and have dimensions to go from. Who knows, I could even market a BSA crank end feed block, I'm sure I could sell at least 2.

It's coming on nicely Ade, you'll soon be putting oil though it.

I've watched this project with interest , as I recall an article in I think Classic Bike when a chap did this modification , and the SRM modification is similar . I've often wondered if it were possible to drill through the oil pump body on the suppy side , block the original outlet , and run a pipe or block from the oil pump to the end of the crankshaft avoiding the various drillings through the crankcase .

Thank you for following the project and channel. If you find cybermotorcycle.com/archives/bsa-a10/mybsaa10rollerconversion.htm, the late beezabill's version, he did something along those lines. However, you cannot just feed the crank by blanking the pump original outlet as the prv, camshaft, timing side, top end etc also need an oil supply, but blanking just the main bush supply without cutting off other feed areas may be possible. As you can see from the videos your enemy is the small complicated space you have to work in inside the timing cover, and my route was to cast the area in alloy and machine away that casting to get a design. I am working on a much simpler billet version now which is easy once you have done the ground work, and I shall release drawings and dimensions of that in due course so anyone wishing to attempt this conversion would be able to skip the 'development' stage, which has been one of the most challenging parts of this job so far. All the best, Ade.

What crankshaft did you end up using? I can't find the video where you talk about that.

Your center point wasn't spot on . You could see the point shift as you spotted it . Sorry I am being pedantic .
