Vex, i am so happy for you!!! I have been in that same boat. No one understands just how big a factor that health problems are when it comes to weight loss unless they've been through it themselves. Congrats!!! 🥰
Fit Vex is gonna cause stir among the self hating lesbian corporate people. They'll not even have the childish angle to go at her anymore, they'll actually have to try to make their brain cell come up with arguments.
Really enjoyed the relaxed off-topic random chatting - you guys are very easy to listen to and it's a nice change from all the 'fuck disney'. Now, time for an RK Outpost video!
For kingdom of the planet of the Apes specifically the line “I don’t know” from Mae does make sense looking at the last trilogy and the events to come. The last two dawn and war focused on warfare between what are essential the alpha species of the planet bent on globalization. Apes and Humans now have to race to subdue the other to solidify their current existence on the planet. As both species have warfare capabilities and tendencies it would be foolish to pretend that there would ever be lasting peace. That’s what makes these movies such a mainstay despite little mainstream attention which they deserve. (Especially Andy Serkis for his performance of Caesar) Watching two species which have plenty of resentment look towards a uncertain future one with a advantage in its primitive phase while the other is reliant on technology will make for a compelling trilogy if fleshed out.
Dammit, bring back Andrew. Also, OP kick Andrew. Great stream, chaps and ladychap. Top Old Man / Lady grumbling about all those damn rowdy kids going to the flicks these days, surely unprecedented in history.
Regarding theatre etiquette failing, I've never seen this in my city but I believe the panel. I think what is happening is that since no one is going to the theatre anyway that people think that they can just do what they want.
Regarding being there when the good movies came out. I was born 1965 so I was a kid when all these groundbreaking movies came out in the theaters. As I've said once before, I would love to come on your show and me and Geek can tell you how it felt to see these movies in the theater when they came out. I'm not a youtuber or anything but I do love movies and I love to talk about them.
To The Mega Geek - in regards to your movie, you might consider 4-walling as an option for actual showings/screenings. Or, consider putting it on PODIA for your streaming options for potential customers. - James D Watkins artistic director of Phoenix Productions.
Simply 'not being woke' doesn't mean Furiosa wasn't handicapped by essentially a decade of audience ill-will that Hollywood has earned. If the film came out 8 years ago it probably would have had less audience apathy working against it. Let alone the hype from Fury Road would have been alot fresher. Also I'd bet the marketing, for what little there was, didn't exactly do it any favors because the trailers definitely made it look like a "stunning diverse strong female character" and the (likely studio-influenced) push to put "-a Mad Max saga" as the subtitle in some desperate attempt to force this into being legitimized as some kind of 'Mad Max Cinematic Universe'. Alot of people likely saw that and just turned off. Unless you're someone with an existing continuous reputation for quality in the industry, or making something genuinely novel and unique that spreads through word of mouth and gets people excited for the movie before it comes out, you can't just make an 'ok' movie anymore and expect people to show up en-mass. If people aren't interested for those reasons and its just a 'generic' and 'safe' movie, then your it has to work alot harder to break through the general market apathy/outright-hostility. The "Hollywood-fatigue" of sorts.
it was also a film killed by unreasonable expectations on the studio side. No Mad Max movie has ever been a runaway hit during it's theatrical run, they're kind of niche movies that have enjoyed far more success as the kind of movie you watch while hanging out on a weekend with your buddies. Fury Road barely broke even during it's release. Basically anybody who was expecting a blockbuster out of Furiosa was a fool. Couple that with the usual hollywood disconnect of spending too much money on it and spending too much of it's runtime trying to establish the next movie in the franchise.... yeah, this movie was kind of financially doomed from the start. In this current movie-going economy, what Furiosa is making is what they should have expected. The movie's not terrible, but it's frankly bloated and meandering.... which is the polar opposite of what people expect from a Mad Max story.
Okay-tiered movies need to be budgeted right too. Furiosa and Fury Road were budgeted to be competitive with MCU movies and they just aren't up to that task of at least making $700 million, let alone a billion. If this movie was... well... budgeted like the Garfield movie, it would have a chance of profitability.
I would love to see Gibson as old Max in a last adventure, handing over the mantle to the kid from Thunderdome or maybe a Furiosa. With a good script that would be awesome.
20:48 That sounds like me, although it's fair to say that unpleasant experiences with certain individuals at theaters played a role in my decision to avoid them. However, I believe that over time, people of my generation will enter the workforce and start attending select theaters on specific dates and during morning hours to avoid encountering disruptive attendees. Perhaps next year, the situation will improve with the closure of many theaters, their replacement by churches, and increased prices for premium showings, which may deter troublemakers from causing disturbances for unsuspecting moviegoers.
The thing is the general audience uses woke to identify a horrible movie that typically has a female lead that isn’t remotely a fleshed out character. Instead of spending the time to figure out exactly why the movie isn’t up to their standards they use a certain marker in this case “woke” to explain away their dislike. It makes sense since we have large swaths of content to choose from and why would the average person waste time learning how to properly identify certain characteristics of cinema they disdain instead of moving on to content they do enjoy. It’s the consumers noticing a trend they can’t fully articulate that drives them away from the market.
I think there is another factor. There’s a solid chunk of current writers that think once they have assigned those characteristics, race, gender, sexuality. They have a complete character and they don’t have to actually give them other characteristics.
