According to the description of the amp on Amazon now it does 20W-40W with 2-6W input so it's still a bit over the spec, but even though its model number is V25 that apparently isn't related to the output power any longer I guess you have one of the upgraded ones, before they upgraded the lables on the case. 🙂 By the way that seem to have a 'D' version for DMR, which seems like a good option allowing you to use a Anytone 878 as well.

Appears that you married the Wrong Woman.My wife has Zero issues with anything that I buy for Radio,Bass Fishing,or anything else.She even purchased an ICOM PW-1 amplifier for me when I retired as a retirement gift.She even suggested that I purchase a New ICOM 756 PROII many years ago to go with my ICOM 746 so I did.I now have an ICOM 7600 to go with the 746 and PW-1 and much more.I don’t complain about what she buys because it’s our money and we only live once.👍👏🎙🇺🇸

I am lucky, my wife likes to listen, plus she also is a scanner listener so we use the radio in her car to monitor Fire and EMS as well. I really took the time and did a real clean install. I took out the dashboard, removed floor rugs, and even took the truck lining out to hide everything except the control head. If you pop the trunk you can't see coax, or the radio at all. Its all hidden. I even put the speaker under the rear deck so the sound comes from the rear " dashboard " .

Excellent way to give your HT muscles too!! I'm probably the only ham that doesn't like modifying my cars for radios, so this would be perfect for me. Even with my FTM-400, I use it with a LiFePo where battery and radio is secured with bungie cords.

Great modifications! Instead of splitting the PowerPoles, I've always used a RigRunner in my vehicles. They're expensive, but neaten everything up and fuse every connection.
@KM4ACK
@KM4ACK 2 года назад
Rig Runners are a great option and I use them in the shack. For the Jeep though I just fuse the main lead at the battery protecting everything in the circuit with it.

I'm thinking that the btech amps were made with baofeng HTs in mind, as many only output 3-4 watts if I remember correctly. So a solid 5w definitely gets higher at the end even if the amplification is the same it would give a lower output radio. Totally just a guess though! Great video!
@ericbjorkman4665
@ericbjorkman4665 2 года назад
Yep I concur. I was going to say something but you beat me to it. These amps are controlled by power in so if you put more in you get more out. That is not a good thing as it allows the amp to be over driven and of course raises the spurious emitions over allowed levels. It will also shorten the lifespan of the circuit components. I think there is a gain adjustment pot on the back of the amp to tune the system to your radio output.
@KM4ACK
@KM4ACK 2 года назад
If you notice the sticker on the back of the amp in the video, it says 2-6W input. The FT65 only puts out about 4.75W so I don't think that's it. I noticed the new listing on Amazon say 30-40W output. Maybe I got one of the new batch that had the old sticker on it?

Ok good I guess they did some upgrades since I last looked at them. I ended up getting the UV-50 instead of the amp.

Great replies but remember HTs also have a power setting that allows less power to come out other than 5 watts. Amateur Radio HTs for sure. So overdriving is up to the user to do it correctly. Like my FT-2 can go 100mW, 1W, 2W, 5W. So the user just needs to be careful. But all are correct tho.

Really like this video! Question maybe video idea. I've heard the amplifier helps clean up signal is it true? If true does it really only clean up baofeng like signals or does it work on even on cleaner signals?

Awesome idea. My wife has a Jeep rubicon with the same set of rules. No permanent installation. This is exactly what I needed! The only problem is mounting the antenna. It is a newer Jeep which are made out of aluminum. The antenna may have to be permanent

Still running great. Not sure I would change anything other than I might get the one compatible with digital so I could also use CF4M with the HT. Either way, it's been a great solution to putting a radio in her vehicle without putting a radio in there. Everything is out of sight until I need it.

@@temporarilyoffline No but if you are using a Baofeng, they give you a cable that goes between the amp and the radio. Looks similar to a programming cable. After that is connected, the mic that comes with the amp will work. It also gives you a speaker on the amp.

Well first mistake you boys did was ASK ,you got to learn the art of marriage, I guess you didn’t get your wife handbook . Remember when you get a new or used piece of equipment always get the operators manual. In this case it’s easy , problem solved let her think it’s her idea . If that doesn’t work just do it anyway.

Fabulous idea. I was thinking of doing something like this with the 2nd car here. Question: how does the HT antenna on the Signal Stick mag mount hold up? My concern with that is how flexible they are and I’m thinking going down the road it would pretty much lay back from the wind.

I removed the brake light from the rear of the jeep and passed the coax through the rubber grommet where the brake light cables are run from the factory. Just be careful to add some extra protection to the coax. I didn't with the first mag mount that I replaced and it had a torn jacket on the coax that was shown in the video.
