"The first Cold War" Bro, that's a LOADED statement. 😂😂😂
@bholdr----0
@bholdr----0 Месяц назад
Yes is is, or, rather WAS- In recent years (say, post Crimea annexation as a rough approximation and appropriate geopolitical marker), it has began to become more and more conventional and accepted, entering the lexicon in roughly the same manner and at the same pace as rhe original 'cold war', 'first/second/third world', 'red/blue' (related to red/white, perhaps?), etc, nomenclature did during the (now relevant descriptive term re: the 'first cold war'.). It WAS 'loaded', but, now, and increasingly in the future it will be, IMHO, a useful, generally accepted, and conventional term... Unless, that is, it goes hot! (And there are different conflicts denominated by the term- is it just 'East v West'? ...Or is it as Ideologically descriptive as the original, or Russia Vs USA/NATO, or China vs. WestPac democracy's alliances, or some nebulous combination of any or some or all of the aforementioned combinations? Maybe it's just that kind of a paradigmatic catch-all for a complicated and complex set of modern geopolitical conflicts- not necessarily as close to war as the first cold war, and nowhere near as well-defined.... Sry for rambling... Thoughts?
@matovicmmilan
@matovicmmilan Месяц назад
@@bholdr----0 Only the one who first came up with the term knows what he exactly meant. I'm a strong opponent of using such terms. For example the term "west" if not used strictly as a relative point in geographical sense, 100 people equals 100 different meanings.
@bholdr----0
@bholdr----0 Месяц назад
@@matovicmmilan Yet, despite that there may be 100 people with different meanings... Words and terms do have meanings. 'The Second Cold War' does have a meaning as a term, relativistic etymological nihilism aside.

Have such a love for the BTR60 and BTR80 and the MTLB APCs. I heard many of the yards in Russia have no MTLBs left because of losses in Ukraine and the MTLB hasn't been produced in a very long time. Interesting and ironically the MTLB was a Ukrainian design. At least some of the US owned ones for "op for" training purposes will most likely end up in collections or museums in the states for future viewing and hopefully in a driving state for exhibition.

It can mount ERA just fine - so long it's the ERA designed to go on lightly armoured surfaces. Very different from the stuff that goes on the front of MBTs.

It could probably take the additional plate armour upgrade like the BRDM-2s in Russian service are getting.

Great desingn, but lighly armored. We talked these as better coffins because army test close range BTR 60/80 were just like cheese. PKM easily punctured the side armour. Russian steel? Not good so soon it was changed to BMP's

Russia did give an armour upgrade to many BRDM-2s, which this could probably fit a similar kit.

BTR is basically a truck with some armor, it's now when BTR's and BMP's are almost merged into one class of machines but back then they weren't.

Резун пишет фантастику. У БТР-60ПБ всего два недостатка. Он не может ехать по полю боя на одном двигателе. При посадке на ходу есть риск схватиться рукой за горячую выхлопную трубу. Для 60-70 годов он был хорош.

APCs (all of them, everyone's) were a mistake designed for a nuclear war that was never fought. Their light weight and high mobility however coerce their use in direct combat because when there are no IFV they're the only option. Between the US M113 and the BTR families the APC concept has resulted in many troop losses. The concept of a front line backed by "safe" rear areas has been obsolete since the 1960s. At least M113 has a rear ramp but the best place for either is far from their usual locations where they're easily destroyed. Interestingly both Russian and US troops often rode desant (M113 most commonly in Southeast Asia) because it's better to be blown a way than burn inside.

Romanian TAB-71 is more a BTR-70 modernized not a BTR-60. First of all has the same armor like BTR-70, better than BTR-60 and the same doors between 2 and 3 wheels like BTR-70. Has extra periscopes on the sides and turret has a special sight easy recognizable on the left side, for engaging helicopters. Both machine guns can be elevated to 85 degrees instead of 30, which is good in urban fighting. Has only one diesel engine, instead of 2 gasoline engines.
@habahan4257
@habahan4257 Месяц назад
The TAB-77 is based on the BTR-70. The TAB-71 has the same door arrangement as the BTR-60, not the BTR-70. you can see it in the video. And the TAB-71 does not have a diesel engine. It is equipped with two petrol engines, which are just more powerful than the BTR-60.
