In true BTS fashion they even hid a third meaning of tear in the song. Suga says T.E.A.R. which is a coping mechanism for loss/grief: T - To accept the reality of the loss E - Experience the pain of the loss A - Adjust to the new environment without the lost person R - Reinvest in the new reality They truly are lyrical kings! Also, this performance is referred to as the Dior performance because they're wearing custom Dior outfits personalized to them individually (all seven of them) by a hip young Dior designer. 💜

I must have watched this video around 50 times and J-Hope's last line makes me want to cry every. single. time. Goosebumps every time I hear his audible breathing at the end. One of my favorites from the rap line to date.

This is one of my faves! They wrote it when they were considering disbanding due to the pressures of overwhelming celebrity. Thank goodness, the members cried when Suga shared it with them, talked it over and all decided to keep going. RM’s perspective is “tear” as in crying, Suga’s is “tear” as in ripping something and J-Hope’s is fear💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

After dark and wild they mostly write to each other, army or their haters, rarely about romantic relationships. The listener can totally take it that way though, which makes their writing amazing, extremely personal but extremely relatable. So fyi, for a damn year army thought this song was about a romantic relationship, then Suga told the backstory, everybody was devastated! Then they wrote Make it Right as an apology for having considered disbanding. These guys I tell ya 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Btw, Hobi’s album Jack In The Box is a masterpiece, he released in July. There are MVs for More and Arson, two songs of the album. He also performed at Lollapalooza this year and it was amazing!!! He sang his songs from his Hope World mixtape too

Some facts about this song: 1. The lyrics seem to talk about a romantic relationship but they are not, they talk about the feelings BTS had when they thought about disbandment, so they are real lyrics from their true feelings at that time. 2. When all BTS members listened to this song they all cried together. 3. In the chorus, RM interprets tear as the ones we cry, then Suga says tear as something breaking and J-hope interprets the fear of losing someone. 4. I feel this is a turning point song that glued them back together when they were under so much pressure they were on the verge of breaking. Suga nailed it. I'm so glad that they decided to stay together. The world is a better place with them in it.💜

I remember my first BTS concert was the Love yourself: Speak Yourself tour in Chicago. And I hadn't known about this song yet, but knew it was on the playlist and gave it a listen or two ahead of time. Nothing big. But when those green lazers came out, it gave me goosebumps. Then they came out like this. It was crazy. forever changed the song for me. I didn't really comprehend BTS's lyrics and how poetic they were until I started watching reactors. A lot of their nuances go over my head 😅I was always bad at this type of stuff in English class LOL. This is one of my favourite BTS songs, the raw emotion, the pain - it’s all so real. You know it’s authentic, those lyrics rip out your heart and their performance leaves you empty - this looks like their performance at Wembley, and I was there - the atmosphere was electric, I can’t explain how it made us feel…Hobi, at the end, most Army’s were crying, he absolutely broke us. The song can be about the pain and anguish of any break up or loss, but the inspiration was the almost-disbandment of BTS in 2018 - those lyrics hit even harder in that context. Thank you 💜💜

This song can really bring a tear to your eye knowing that it was written as a breakup song of BTS. The members were thinking of breaking up due to the pressures in the industry. If you let it run without pausing at the end with JHope's emotional rap, it is especially moving.

This is such great performance and iconic song in the discography. One of those songs where army can recognize from the first note. And how incredibly courageous in showing vulnerability for them to actually put the song out and perform it given the context (they were seriously contemplating breaking up when the Suga wrote his part of the song)

You know bts are soulmates when they start writing song about their group disbanding like a lover-relationship. What i love about this song is that it applies for both. They wrote song about their own heartbreak of thinking of disbanding as a group, but also allows others/ audience to relate it as a heartbreak song of a relationship/friendship/ basically anything that breaks apart .... Cause at the end of the day we are humans whp eventually will experience parting in some part of our life. OUTRO TEAR IS TOP TIER

it's a song by BTS for BTS. they are singing to each other after some members thought about leaving the group. The feelings of pain in this song are real. They had the same dream, but separating that dream becomes just a dream.

Saw this live twice and almost didn't survive both times. What's really crazy is that right before this, the vocal line does the song The Truth Untold, which is a beautifully haunting, slow, vocal track by Steve Aoki, and when its over you're in this crowd with tears running down your face and your chest tight with emotion and then those green laser beams come out and shine through the fog left over from that emotional fcking vocal line experience... That was May 2019 I saw it and I'm still not over it. Check out The Truth Untold live as well. You won't regret.

This live performance beats the studio version by far! The mind boggling part is that yes, you can interpret it as a breakup song, but the guys wrote it for their own breakup and only writing it made them realise that they can't go through with it. The fans found out the meaning much later. They actually never tell you about the problems they are going through. Only when the tempest has passed and they found a solution they mention what's been happening. I would recommend my man Suga's two performances next. 🔥 One with him singing Seesaw. This is one of the holy grails of BTS’ discography. A must for all who are checking them out. I am so glad you are already on to it 🎉 I see many are already explaining the context of this one. They almost disbanded around 2017-2018. It will hit harder if you search for their speech at MNet Music Award (MAMA) 2018 😢 Yah. I have to watch a lot of theirs more than once. Once to just soak it in. Second after I investigated the lyrics. Etc. This is why many are too lazy to check them out properly. It is their loss.

This one is produced by Docskim. He is usually their pianist. He also produced "Wildflower" on RM's new record, Indigo. I knew it would be my favorite song on the album by just reading the credits. Jimin's solo, Lie, is produced by Docskim as well.

Isn´t this amazing? We love the rap line. This could be a breaking song with a lover but this was written when they were almost talking of dibanding BTS. So it is a special song. The lyrics, the power, the emotion. RM´s powerful voice, SUGA´s passion and then J Hope´s ending is epic.

When SUGA wrote this song it was when BTS was going through a tough time and considering breaking up. He said when the rest of the members listened to it they all cried but it helped in them staying together. Also, RM says TEAR as in crying and SUGA says TEAR as in being ripped apart. One thing to remember going forward is that even though they do sing occasionally about romantic relationships for the most part the songs have a much deeper meaning than that. Try not to limit your thoughts on that subject.

This is one of my favorite BTS songs. You should do Her next. These two are kind of a pair. Tear has all of the hardness of ending and Her has all the softness of beginning. (Also you should listen to larger sections before going back to read the lyrics. Their songs are so sweeping and architectural I feel like you’re missing out on some of the magic of how the flows shift and crest and fall into each other. But this shit is catnip to me.)

Yes, absolutely must listen to the album version for this one - the production is amazing. There's no MV for this song, so search up a lyric video. I never liked rap and while I fell hard for BTS over the course of a year, this was one of the last songs I listened to because RM's rap came in so aggressive at the start (right after the gorgeous instrumental)... but one day, I guess I was ready. Finally listened and it made me cry. Now it's one of my absolute favorites. And the fact that it's not about the typical romantic relationship but their bond as a group/family... takes it to another level in meaning and impact. (Oh, and I truly appreciate BTS' rap songs now, haha).

You should check out some of their live medleys from their concerts. They’re super high energy and hype and a good intro to some of their classics. If u type “bts medley live” into the search bar on youtube there are a lot of good options.

The lyrics have both tear (tir; as in crying) and tear (ter; as in ripping apart), to be rhymed with fear. In one of their documentaries, SUGA shared, “The lyrics for Tear were written for the members. When I was writing the melody, at the time, we were deeply contemplating whether we should quit or not. A lot of BTS' later songs don't refer to romantic relationships though many taken them that way and if that help someone get through something i think BTS are happy for people to interperate them that way. BTS' do have songs about relationships but they're generally in the earlier works. Tear however has a very serious meaning as other have pointed out if you want to know more there are explanation videos around.

BTS is no longer considered as KPOP group they are considered Pop music superstar which is facts. My friends don't listen to kpop but they know BTS and their song are their in playlists. BTS is only they listen to and enjoy. As a ARMY and kpop listener majority of them only know BTS and their success. Slowing they are liking other kpop music but seriously I have seen my friends literally cry will listening to Truth Untold by BTS. Maybe the lyrics really comforted them or helped them to love themselves. Now whenever we go to night drive full volume BTS music. My friends used to say before that BTS is gay and stuff but now they freaking love them. If any other kpop stan try to throw shadow to BTS they talk back very badly and feel self satisfied to themselves. We are total 6 friends, different skin color, different beliefs and faiths. But We love BTS ARE FOREVER ARTIST to many people out there.

Some BTS lyrics are layered and can be applied to different situations. Not always the standard boy/girl break up.
