Your comment about how the US only caters to English speaking acts and how they don’t care about non English speakers is very on point. As someone into music (and even movies), it’s very apparent when you see how popular BTS is and yet radio refuses to play them bc they don’t fully speak English even though radio is supposed to be playing popular music. They’re constantly being kept in a box that separates them from joining main pop acts whether thats in award show categories or radio, etc. in the US just because they don’t speak English.

Even if is a different culture and language, even Koreans need an explanation, because bts not only use their culture, but also books, theories, art. They truly send a message, and not just because they are Koreans. Some days ago a Korean twit, "is ok international army, we also sometimes don't understand what bts are saying" because even for their culture they talk too fast 🤣🤣🤣🤣. U will notice that when you try the bts funny videos or like that.

Alex, I had the same path in my thinking when I started to discover BTS, and I am not afraid to say today that before BTS I didn't realize that unconsciously I was discriminating, thinking that the best music and the most beautiful lyrics could only come from the West, yet I thought I was very open-minded and always defending minorities. And the best part is that I myself come from a country that has been colonized for more than 130 years, during which time a culture other than our own has been imposed on us. But thanks to my father (peace be upon him) we had such a diverse library of vinyl records that I grew up having conditioned my ears to appreciate music from all over the world, and I think that this is what made me realize very quickly when I discovered BTS "that the best music could come from anywhere" and no offense, but English music could not have a monopoly on excellence. Today, I work a lot on myself with the reflections of BTS through their lyrics and through their social and humanitarian commitments... I no longer judge a work or an artist without a good reading of his work... On the other hand I am harder with those who belittle the human condition whose works are more material and hypocritical than sincere. And I am not ashamed to say that in the same way that Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Gandhi... etc, BTS are an everyday inspiration for me.

There is another theory for the way the mv is edited and filmed, you might have noticed the mv actually is sloppy at times like at the Jimin solo part where the background has that visible static effect shown and overly saturated visuals, they literally mocked haters through this mv, who made fun of BTS in general falsely accusing for using green screen a lot( though BTS hardly use green screen) and the colourful videos like DNA It is as if they saying "I hardly use green screen but if you think otherwise then I'll use it for you the whole mv now hun" "my mvs are too poppy & colourful? Here you go another heavily saturated mv" And most importantly Idol is a celebration song for finally loving yourself for who you are

Who's here can speak Korean by just watching Korean drama and kpop I've been watching Korean drama and kpop since 2008 and till now I can't speak Korean 🤣🤭

As Suga said in Grammy museum interview: kpop is audiovisual package...so meaning that videos are very important part in delivering the senses they want to deliver. It enhances experience from song with audiovisual information, so you consume this information not only through auditory sense but engaging other senses which means you will remember it better. So, basically, when video is done to reflect the meaning to a song you remember it better and remember song better.

The video doesn't also show BTS suits are South African and some of the dance moves are also South African. They wore those suits and performed in them in the US on one of the late night shows. One of the reasons I love BTS is that they promote K Pop, Korea, and at the same time accept diversity in their songs, beats, and clothing 💜

Alex what you said makes so much sense cuz BTS don't sing in English they are treated as this exotic sensation and not as artists be it Grammys or billboard a recent example is VMAs happening this Saturday BTS are put in the 'Best Kpop' category but not the 'Best Artist' category when they clearly outselled and out performed the nominees there. Radios don't want to play their songs back in 2017 we used to send them bts albums with letters and flowers but we end up seeing that album in a garage sale, the radio didn't even listen to the album and there's so much gate keeping done for them its one of the reason why they don't have Grammy because Grammy's just wants Americans to win I could go on about this but thats why I love idol BTS just said they'd never change themselves for fame/money

I keep explaining to my mother the parts she doesn't understand and I keep sharing these videos and theories with her when I have time. She finds it interesting that there is so much reference to their music, but not to other artists' songs that I talk about too. So I realized that as an Army I always look for references and details, songs simple and easy to understand ...
