I'm a 44yr old white aussie man, and I'm pissed at this show & channel 9. I call 9 "parasite tv" they seem to like shows that exploit people. Worst station in Australia. Australian media in general have been left behind by the rest of the world, when they hear the term kpop they still think of Gangnam Style. This show was clearly trying to exploit something they knew nothing about for cheap laughs (that weren't funny!) There's lots of love for BTS in Australia, but our media are morons!
@@jintheprince3991 ddeng is not "diss", it is just about them flexing about their success to haters, no actual shade being thrown here like cyphers or MD
I'm usually all for "offensive" or dark humour/comedy, but this wasnt even an attempt at comedy. It was just pure belittling and trying to make BTS seem shit. The "worried about something Korean exploding in America" thing was actually a joke with a punchline, if u find it funny or not is up to u, but the rest was just pure defamation and trying to bring BTS down.
Yeah it was basically shitting on bts but the it’s just math part was funny other than that they were just trying to make stupid jokes that appeal to no audience with a basic understanding of humor
Defamation is a legal term, this clearly doesn't fall into that category. It was a poor attempt at humour, and it backfired massively. You could argue that they were anticipating reactions like yours and hoped to create a buzz around the show, which apparently succeeded to a certain extent. You wanna get back at them? Call their sponsors, it's quite easy.
@대왕. I don't really see what was so bad about it? Most of it was making fun of themselves, like they are old so therefor they have never heard of them etc. Everyone get that Jimin doesn't always sing like that, it's a fail clip brought up to make an exaggeration the same way as that they have never heard of them. Nothing about it is defamation it's literally stand up comedians. Search up some stuff that Jimmy Carr has done before and you will understand how tame this was, it could have been 100 times harsher.
the thing i love about this channel the most is that danny and david almost always have different ways of viewing the issues and when they discuss them and talk about them we (the viewers) get to really see from both sides and see what could be said from a different perspective, but as david always says there's a line, and no matter how much danny's opinion can be bold and different its never disrespectful or intended to bully or hurt anyone. LOVE YOU GUYS KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING
Its not the worst, but its also untrue. One direction were discovered on a TV show, I think one kpop group not sure if its super junior mirrors them better because they were also formed on a show. Bts would mirror groups that started from nothing and made it on their own hard work and passion for what they do. Its how I picture old garage bands that made it big, by working hard and getting their stuff out there without an audience boost to start them off like one direction had.
Their jokes were so bad that it seemed as an attack. And the worst part was the way it was all defended (by someone who had nothing to do with it) on twitter. Anyways, thanks for mentioning it!
@@fuhtsgeorge7663 yeah I've noticed a trend with Australians not everyone of course but a few idiots who are in the entertainment industry I've noticed are going after kpop and it's not just bts. I remember a few weeks ago when they said there was drugs at a blackpink concert when it was at a rave then a comedian who had his Netflix special dropped for being racist made a hate video against bts. When he started getting army all over his account to get attention and he got it he then removed the tweet. Now we have people on Australian TV again talking shit.
I really agree with David there...If we just ignore these kind of stereotypical racial jokes & comments...we're just reinforcing them & making it seem like it okay to do so to the audience listening.
Whitney Titus it’s better to call people out for their behavior so they learn and other idiots watching learn as well. If u ignore every idiot, that’s how idiots stay idiots unless someone calls them out.
@Whitney Titus These are not just a handful of random racists, this is a TV show, sanctioned by a TV station. Whether it's Trump in the US or some political parties in Europe or in this case a TV station, they're giving racist/xenophobic/homophobic POVs a validated platform, therefore empowering your normal RL racist into seeing this as a socially accepted POV. And this feeling of empowerment can lead to RL actions that end in violence towards minorities. so yes it is important to send the signal that we're NOT ok with TV stations airing this under the guise of 'just comedy'....
I don't consider it blackface. It just looks like a metallic black color which isn't similar to a black persons skintone. It's supposed to be statue/art. And yes I'm black

You cant stop something to big. If you hate, you care too much. These 'haters' care too much about BTS when they could just delete BTS from their life but chose not to.
That was NOT an apology. That was just a message to tell us to shut up cause they "apologized".. But, that's NOT an apology, not even close. Those guys are in our Blacklist now, and they cannot get out ever. I'm sorry, but they didn't say that they didn't like them or hated them, which would be FINE (even though why? And how??) But they LITERALLY made jokes out of topics which are very, very important like the UN speech. Idek how they made fun of that, btw, seeing as even the South Korean President said it was moving.. idk man.
I"m honestly so disgusted by that Australian show. As an Australian myself, I don't watch the news (and specifically that channel) often but I know that often the Australian media's behaviour is disgraceful. I hope everyone knows that this does not reflect the mindset of all Australians nor do we think this is okay.
That is nice to know but the media is what we see of other countries so ... if the Media in a country is being crap... saddly that influences the image that people from other countries have of that particular country... I personally don't have a great opinion about Australian people, specially when they start by calling themselves Australian and the native people are called aborigines???? There has been , probably still is a lot of racism in Australia.
"If you heard of them, you're young" There are plenty of elderly fans of BTS. Even if you're not elderly, you don't have to be a 12 year old girl to love BTS. My dad likes to watch BTS videos with me, and he's a J-hope stan. He's always been very supportive of me and so he gave them a chance. He's not particularly old or young though, he's 37.
Capricorn Of January 4th Bakugou vs Deku Sorry to say...I just watched a segment of how colorist the BTS Leader is against the other members. I was shocked but NOT REALLY as I guess it’s a given to associate “white skin with Beauty Standards”. SAD 😔 and NOT Okay.
if it was a bit racist but at least funny, id laugh. but it was just cringey esp cos all of the people on that show are d-list celebs whose careers ended 10 years ago. the guy who said their singing was "passable" was an australian idol reject
I swear, the thought of what that snippet of Jimin singing and their comments on it... I almost cried just thinking about how he might react. I realize that, yes, he's a grown man, but he puts his life and soul into Bts, and it breaks my heart when people make fun of him for things that are basically out of his control. Like, okay, sometimes people's voices break/crack. If you were working super hard every single day, your voice would probably give out too. Edit: And on top of that, he's dancing (might I say really, really well). Just try walking a singing and you'll realise how hard it is. Now imagine you're doing abrupt rapid energy consuming movements while staying on time and singing.
they dont even think for one second that hes sing AND dancing. hes on beat and every thing im not saying this because hes my bias but this genuinely made me mad
What concerns me about the Australian TV segment is that these type of jokes - hardcore mockery - are only funny to people who most likely ALREADY have xenophobic and/or racist views. These words play well to an audience who thinks that successful artists from a country like Korea are a joke. Period. In and of itself. In other words, Korea being successful on a global scale IS the joke, and THAT’S a problem.
THIS. This sort of unfunny, insulting mockery of BTS on a TV show just reinforces to the xenophobic racists that their ignorant views are valid. I doubt anyone with a broader view of the world, BTS or K-Pop laughed along with these out-of-touch, tone-deaf xenophobes.
A fair chunk of the people within the australian TV industry are alot older, inherently their views will be more conservative. There should definitely be a push to introduce a younger generation so that things like this don't happen.
Lol dumbo Super relate. I live in suburban la and there was this one time my dad spotted this white guy who lives in our cul de sac who was just watering his lawn minding his own business wearing a shirt with the rising sun on it (probably with no idea what it means) and my dad literally approached him, asked him why he was wearing that shirt and if he knew what that symbol meant and then proceeded to fully go into the history of Japan's rule over Korea 😧 White dude looked at me like 😕? 😅🤷♀️
I agree with the dumbo one but rising sun flag shirt...? That should be taken seriously. To some people, including your dad or other "embarassing" family members, it's just like walking into a guy wearing a nazi shirt. And some find it even more infuriating cuz Nazi=terrible is a basic knowledge but the rising sun flag is often mis-viewed as rooting for Japan or thinking highly of Japan, when in reality it represents so much cruelness, pain and war crimes to a lot of victim countries of Japan and WWII. But yeah, the dumbo one was just....too much.

8:09 as a black woman, it's clearly not blackface. I can understand why other black people might be offended, but they need to recognize that it isn't. You can't just avoid something like that forever just because they used black bodypaint vs a color. It's the same as if it was pure white body paint or red body paint. Call out the actual blackface like that Gucci hate situation.
I thought you had common sense for a second until you mentionned Gucci. Like if you still can't accept that it's just a fucking clothe but in black, you're no different than all the other people that think they can just make a fucking color their own and nobody else can use it unless they're part of the same race group, that's not only insanely ridiculous, but also racist, fyi.
Prismo the clothes weren’t just in black though....it was the design on top of the black background that made it look just like black face... Pls look at the designs of them
People seem to forget the intention behind blackface, too. Even if someone is making their skin look darker to look more black (although I'm 100% certain that isn't the situation here), the intentional of blackface was to mock. If someone does it because they're showing people that they think it's beautiful, there is obviously no offense intended there and no reason to get offended. People aren't really offended over this. They have other deeper issues going on.
I'm a Monbebe and Monsta X recently went to perform for the Norwegian royalty and President Moon at the president's invitation and the same exact thing you guys talked about happened lol. The comments under the video from the event were filled with people cursing out Moon Jaein for going overseas and bringing a K-pop group for diplomacy etc etc.. it was kinda crazy lol. And in the same week that Australian show released that video, some Australian DJ introduced Monsta X's new song he was going to play in a really unprofessional and rude way and basically called them nobodies, compared them to BTS just for being seven Korean guys, and said their name wrong because he sounded so salty people actually were requesting the song to be played. I seriously don't get what's so hard for these people to understand that just because they haven't heard of something doesn't mean it isn't popular.🤦
I saw the transcript of the Monsta X interview, and all they did was say they had seven members like BTS - nothing else. The part you should be mad about is how they talked about the collab.

Its always funny to see monolinguals (especially from english speaking countries) make fun of bilinguals and trilinguals. While they cant speak a 2nd language, while the rest of the world just babysits them while they speak THEIR language, cuz monolinguals dont have the ability to speak another language apart from English almost as if its some kind of disability that the rest of the world has to assist them for the sake of communication. its like helping them wipe their own ass, cuz babies cant do that. ps: I'm only talking about those who make fun of others who can't speak English. Many countries speak 1 language but I notice it's mostly the English's speaking ones that expects ppl to know English and make fun of those who cant. Agree with you. As an Australian, this was extremely embarrassing but not too surprising esp. when it comes from a media outlet that doesn’t represent the contemporary multicultural Australia. Yes it’s true casual racism is common esp. off colour jokes but overt racism is rare enough that it will be reported on the news or trend on RU-vid. As a Korean Australian, this program was offensive and as an ARMY, I was downright furious but the context around this program is that no one watches it. It was canceled for many years and only brought back this year because it is cheap to make, a time filler. What disturbs me though, is all the comments crapping on all of Australia and Australians as (violent??] racists. Aren’t comments like this pretty much what the program did?
I appreciate you a lot for saying this. I have been to your country a couple of times and only have GOOD memories. That show did its woke citizens a DISSERVICE, now the eyes of the world are on Australia. What's funny (morbidly so) is that in the Wikipedia description of that tv show, they're actually described as racist and white supremacist. They need to wake up it's the 21st century!!!
about the k government exploiting bts... i think what bts does for their country is priceless. so only bts can decide whether to do a service for what “price” they themselves set.
True. Old variety shows do that . Yet no much nowadays, especially there is celebrity like sam ockeyere(correct me if i am wrong) that bring about the best thing being a person instead of skin color.
THAT'S WHAT I SAID( I'm also black) think of it like this, it's just body paint used to make her outline show more against the background. I know some black people who do the same with white or gold. It's not blackface, it's modeling.
I don't consider that photoshoot blackface AT ALL. The model may have had her whole body painted black, but there was no mockery towards black ppl displayed. And, yes I'm a black person (both my parents are black). Now, if she had an afro, red exaggerated painted lips, or something, THEN it'd be go time for sure.
i honestly thought it was really pretty. using black and white you can see the contrast and the focus (or at least it should have been) is on her. not the paint. it's like a black and white minimal photoshoot.
there's nothing wrong with being gay, it's just the way they said it was intentionally aiming at the fact that idols wear make up, accessories, and care about fashion plus their more androgynous look (compared to westerners) that implies those characteristics as 'gay' (which sounds pretty insulting to the gay community as well, at least to me). the tone used was mocking and condescending, frankly, it gave me verbal bullies flashbacks
To fully understand the context, Perez Hilton is a has-been leech that tries to maintain his fame by attacking celebrities (in America). When Bts first went to the BBMAs in 2017, he was kind to them and Armys at first. Once he realized he could get clout by mentioning Bts, he started being super suggestive. He didn't ask if any of them were gay; he asked who was in a relationship with each other and who was the next 1D's Larry situation. It was GROSS. When Armys called him out on it, he started acting like a victim while also attacking Armys. We've cancelled him ever since and Idk what he's doing on an Australian show when he's a nobody, lmao
In Australia racism is really common.... it's like some of them hate Asian...my cousin was studying their in college he got so bullied because of it and their professor or anyone didn't even do anything after he complained ...😓😓
They’re Islamophobic too. My muslim friend was visiting her sister studying in Adelaide and they both got slushied. Her sister was wearing a headscarf and they just threw it at them yelled “GO BACK TO ARAB”..
The Streamers: It is pretty gross to actually identify the object of your fantasy by name. We all have them, just keep it to yourself. The Blackface: The magazine was NOT blackface. It was NOT an imitation of an ethnicity. But Danny is correct; because of the history behind blackface, anything remotely resembling it can cause an emotional response in some. I'm not going to go into how I feel about those emotional responses- don't have the time. BTS Mocking: That show tried it. They were going for a certain angle to elicit a specific response but it didn't pay off. Such is life. Better luck next time... I guess.
I don't think BTS cares what a random Australian tv show says about them. They are so sucessful they could probably buy the whole continent of Australia lol. The painting isn't blackface but people need to stop calling black people sensitive for having that immediate reaction. @Black To Grace I respect your opinion despite the fact that you do not respect mine. However, not everything needs to be seen as disrespect, mockery, or cultural appropriation. Did the magazine hurt some, yes. Was that the intention of the model or magazine, likely not. But again, your views and my views are different. This is why some were hurt and others weren't.
@Black To Grace I also understand that there are indeed black people with very dark complexions that could resemble a metallic black. They are truly beautiful. But for this photoshoot, maybe the thought process was "black is slimming and contrasts well with white and is aesthetically pleasing to the eye" not "we should imitate black people for more revenue and shock value".

David legend said it all. I love how woke you are and actually look at things from a bigger picture before speaking about it. I completely agree with everything you've said
Girls paint themselves gold and silver and other body paints...I think it's creative, not blackface. The photos are absolutely gorgeous and she should not be shamed for that.
Its 2019 but still no surprise if some cavemen tell us they never heard of the biggest boy group in the world. We can't do much but just have to leave them behind and let them be." Frog in the well is not a myth it's a truth !!! Our love and respect for BTS is deep 💜💜💜
I believe the way they mocked BTS is not only due to BTS being Asian, but also due to very unhealthy notions of masculinity and sexism in Western cultures. Also, the BTS fans that are shown on the media are largely groups of girls/young women and there is loooooong history of dismissing what girls/young women like as frivolous/vain/low quality - even the Beatles themselves had to deal with that in their early years. That prejudice exists in every single form - what girls read, write, wear, sing, paint, dance, play, etc.. is always policed. The basic principle of this is not so different from mocking an adult for liking videogames, but is worse due to sexism.
Yeah, the shit Twilght is still getting is unbelievable. Ass posses on Overwacth, Jar Jar..... nothing, boys enterntaintment reings supreme. Books and movies that may cater to a version of femal sexuality?, low budget trash.
“Never heard of them” how do you know their info and their fandom name? And some info that only usually hardcore army’s know? I really want to make them lose so much face. Don’t just use Bts for their own tv shit. I didn’t even know that!!! I hate their way of talking about BTS
That aussie t.v. show actually made my sick to my stomach. Especially belittling their UN speech, and showing the clip of Jimin's voice cracking. My mother is a professional operatic vocal coach, and even she says there's no remedy for voice cracks, there is no way to avoid them. It is like a hiccup or a sneeze, an involuntary reaction to various factors. Furthermore, Jimin is notoriously hard on himself, and I really hope he never sees this crap.
Well, and it's been proven that the sound system was playing the song in a higher key than they had previously practiced. All of the boys - including Charlie Puth - sounded off during that performance. Jimin's nailed all of the other 99% of the time, but sure, let's air the one clip where the audio was messed up *pissed off*
There are so many fans (including me) that love BTS and are hoping that they come to Australia .......and then the stupid friekin TV show is ruining it for us. Ahhhhhh.
Watching Davids reaction to the Australian TV segment was like watching a representation of ARMY twitter after that incident in video format. Keep up the good work!
When that woman said they're the Korean One direction . I literally laughed the first time when I heard it not bc she mentioned 1D but bc of the reason the way she said it. It felt as if these are the same dumb people who never knew non-English bands existed 😂 LMAO but BTS n ARMYS slapped them so hard that BTS is the historical biggest boyband after Beatles n I'm pretty sure she now knew them very well now 😂
i think david explained the whole situation really well. xenophobic, homophobic, and racist jokes really aren't funny anymore and the whole skit wasn't that creative or entertaining
Imagine if jimin see that Australian Tv show and See's him having a voice crack he would be so sad cause he is already insecure about himself I really hope they don't see that
They probably saw it already pfff i'm very scared for them especially Jimin he will beat himself over that footage I hope they don't take it to heart still they suffered so much before so i'm sure they'll be ok army is there for them
Bighit could very well sue for slander. The emotional and professional damages they caused bts is too much in just a short segment. They're very liable for it, as that show catered to australian gp and they painted a very slanderous and misinformed image of bts. That's nowhere near what can constitute as 'dark humor' when it has serious xenophobic and racist undertones.
