BTS has very poetic lyrics and you should really read the lyrics and put the English captions on your reaction. You are missing out on a great part of the experience if you don't read the lyrics and research the meaning of the song. This song is on their Map of the Soul 7 album which is a concept album that delves into the concepts of psychologist Carl Jung and his theory of the mapping of a human beings psyche through a persons Persona, Shadow and Ego. It's very rare for people to react to this music video . This MV is so underrated. Normally, people react to the performance video of this song since there's more dancing while in this one there's more storytelling, a lot of symbolism and references(and a lot of people get lost lol) . One thing to take note of when reacting to BTS is the lyrics...their music is nothing without lyrics. They're one of the few artists of today who pay attention to what they sing/rap about and the reason their fanbase consists of people of all ages and backgrounds is because of the subject matters they address in their lyrics. I would have wished you turned on the subs for the lyrics since you will get a glimpse of what the song is about that way. But no problem. Anyways, this music video as I have mentioned has a lot of symbolism and references that correspond to what the song is about(too bad you didn't turn on the cc), so I would like to recommend 2 videos that will explain the music video as well as the lyrics(because their lyrics are often multi-layered). Every single scene has meaning. The videos I recommend are: "BTS - ON Explained By A Korean" by the channel "DKDKTV" , and "BTS - ON MV Full Analysis" by the channel "Bookish Theories". Honestly I prefer the "Bookish Theories" explanation on this one because it's so extensive, but I recommend both videos by both channels. That's if you are interested though.
Well you don't need to understand them to get the message unless the person is kind of closed up i guess. BTS's lyrics are amazing and everything but that is not everything. They make you feel it without you needing to understand them. They overall are great artists people shouldn't always just focus on lyrics..It really makes me sad that the only reason people don't want to listen to it is because they want to understand them. Music isn't just about that...as someone who has played the flute and loves to dance without a professional(for the flute I had) just feeling the music made me more of an army than just reading lyrics that wasn't the thing that made me fall in love with them.

This MV has lots of movie references from lion king to maze runner and from game of thrones and bird box to even biblical references like the thorns around Jungkooks wrists to noahs ark. This MV just amazes me every time i watch it. (My fave bit of the song is junkooks solo but fav bit of the mv is the dance break where its like they are fighting of the evil as when they go back to the wall, it opens and V takes of the little girls blindfold so she can see that the bad in the world has gone and been replaced with the good) also there are blade runner and also lion King refferecnce too

I think your reaction was great, the lyrics do support that. It’s interesting to note that the other MV version of this song ON Kinetic Manifesto was filmed in LA and they collabed with the UCLA marching band. Same song but inspirational at a different level. You MUST watch ON: Kinetic Manifesto (film), the dance version of this song. There, the dance break near the end MASKES the song and is chills-inducing as you see the drumline encircle the members as they dance. It raises my spirits every time I see it. My favorite BTS video.
The part with them not singing or rapping is called a dance break and thats literally what it is: They take a break from singing and rapping to be able to focus more on dancing cause even though they are obviously able to do both at the same time they can do more in terms of dancing when they don't have to use there voices simultaneously
I like the fact that you watch these without the lyrics and can get the feel of things without it. Most reactors watch with lyrics but I find that can distract from everything else. Just letting you know, all the members sing or rap in this song and in all songs that aren't subunits. Its hard to know whos singing while watching the mv especially if you're new and can't recognize their voices but the live performances and in this case the Kinetic Manifesto mv make it clear.
I saw an article called BTS and Spirituality that maintains that all of their recordings make up this huge epic story. I don’t have all their work yet since I’m fairly new to K-POP but it sounds very plausible to me given that their work does send messages about self love and positivity.

The 300 mil views is low bc they also put out a performance video nearly at the same time. Most people watch that one bc it is fire. I love this MV bc of all of the references and the quality of the production. BTS’ albums are thematic. ON is on the Map of the Soul: 7 album. The MOTS series encompasses the psychological concepts of Carl Jung. He believed that the psyche was made up of 3 parts. The Persona - the self we show the world. The Shadow - our doubts and fears we keep hidden even from ourselves. The Ego - our hopes and dreams. Jung believes that in order to be completely happy, we have to acknowledge all 3 parts of ourselves. ON falls within the shadow concept.

Regarding the dance break towards the end of the song, that part is specifically in there for live performance, which is why there are no vocals. The choreography is too high energy to sing and dance at the same time, even for BTS who are famous for their ability to sing live while doing choreography. There is a second MV for this song that focuses on the choreography called On: Kinetic Manifesto.
The making on ON you must watch! It's called ON Commentary film : Dialogue on BANGTANTV channel it gives you a look into how the song was created with the help of UCLA marching band and an all-black gospel choir! Also please put the subtitles on CC please so you can understand what their saying lol They added the pause in the song for the dance break that BTS performs live on award shows but the original song doesn't have that break.
I have been waiting for another honest BTS reaction ~ thank you! Even without subtitles, you pretty much caught on to the message, however would highly recommend turning them on as messages in their songs are pretty deep. There is another version which you might enjoy as you’ll see each member sing their part and not get too lost in the video - On Kinetic Manifesto Coma Prima and as you mentioned the ending isn’t too long winded 😊 You talk about flow switch and vocals, dayum, you ain’t seen nothing yet! BTS offer different vibes all the time. The rapline have cyphers and solo work which I know you’ll enjoy 🔥 and the vocal line with their solos displaying each of their talents. You should watch their other music video called “ON Kinetic Manifesto-Come Prima”. It is just the music, amazing dancing and vocals. No giraffes or Pride Rock. (Not that I have anything against giraffes lol.) They also did it on Jimmy Fallon in NYC Grand Central.
You should also react to another version of "ON" called "On Kinetic Manifesto". It showcases their dancing talent. Again, don't forget to put your closed caption on for the english subtitles. BTS is also known for their meaningful lyrics.
The really cool thing about BTS is, no matter how good the studio version is, somehow they manage to make their live performances even better. As you’ve picked up, the common thread is their great energy and their versatility. @@SeanStaxxMusic I think the suggestion meant, from her experience, one could consider watching it without CC, get the initial reaction first then go back with CC and can slow down and pause if needed, and as some armies said, not afraid of long videos. But then it's still your choice, if you want to do it just once, or multiple, since it will take longer for sure.
First of all , congratulations,you got the message pretty well (even without subtitles) BTS songs are getting better and better, more often you hear them. Especially when you learn to tell who is singing! (All 7 had their part 😉) In most performance and MV's the person who is singing is center or other wise "singled out " in some way. To round this up, you could re-listening by watching the "Kinetic Manifesto Come Prima"version! It really is worth the time (and ARMY LOVES IT!!!)

I love this MV for ON, but a person can really get lost with all the symbolism (and there's a LOT). I would definitely recomment ON Coma Prima Kinetic Manifesto, as it is a showcase of their dancing abilities and OMG it's fantastic!

I loved your reaction and your takes on the mv! You got the message well, but you should really react to the lyrics too, the guys have so much to say in each of their music videos. You could read them from somewhere else if you find it hard to focus on the lyrics and the mv itself, but pls do it anyway. Also yes: the guys all sing and rap in each of their songs, even if you can't catch all of them. The solo and duo stuff is a different matter, also they have specific songs that only a little group of the guys have done
The dance parts are always called dancebreaks and mostly added for performances as being a big part of the idols performances. They learn to sing and rap and dance in trainee days. Plus there is another big topic in kpop is the visual as in the performances,choreos,lyrics and much more. That is what makes the difference for most people. The feeling of seeing and hearing such beautiful things all in one. If it is a group song every member has lines and it is determined by positions that are ranked by skill. As the Main position having the most powerful one in this specific field. As for mainly rap,vocals,dance and visual. I always need to mention that the visual and the center of the group work as the attractor. Which in BTS are Jungkook and Jin (and V) in BTS. Jungkook the Main Vocalist and Center and Lead Dancer and Sub Rapper of the group has a lot to do with their succes. As being most of the time in the center and having most of the parts.(he records the guides as recorder the song alone and then they determine who gets each part) Jungkook works as the Center mainly because he is overall talented in all fields. Then there is Jin and V that are the main visuals. As in being the nervst to the Korean Beauty Standard in the group they catch the viewers attention many times as well with their Stage Presence :)

Hi Sean, I saw few people are fighting in your community about BTS. As an ARMY, I want to say sorry on behalf of ARMY. I know some ARMY can be overly protective toward BTS. This is due to all the hatred and mistreatment that BTS (and ARMY) received since 2013 until now due to they came from a small company that almost bankrupt but grow organically without the help of media and now being asian that grow so big in western music industry. But believe me, not all ARMY are like that. BTS has a huge fandom (from below 10yo to 60+yo) hence so much varieties of people inside it and people react differently. BTS also get a lot of hatred that some people can pretend to be an ARMY too and try to bring bad reputation for BTS. BTS themselves always spread positivity. Please ignore all the negative comments. The lyrics are mixed Korean and English. With BTS turning on the closed captions will really help you if you choose to continue on your journey. BTS mv visuals can be packed with messaging and allegories. Even Mic Drop had them though having the middle portions of the song solely in English probably gave you adequate understandings without going deep things. The dance bridge/conch shell summoning of adversity cannot be understood without knowing what the lyrics are expressing. This track derives from the Map of the Soul 7 album. Map of the Soul being the name of a book of Swiss psychologist Karl Jung's theories. It is not simply something thrown in the track. It is a meaningful expression of BTS going through a process Jung calls individuation to create a new normal which embraces and integrates aspects of emotions which had been subconscious and now are leaking into their Personas. BTS in On foreshadows the very real decision they made to enter a "second chapter" to address their emerging psychological needs. The only part of the explanation I will point out as the mv is replete with biblical and cinematic analogies is the opening scene. There has been a war going on. It is in their minds, the dove with an arrow through it being representative of psychological peace being killed. Member Jin is cradling peace almost futilely hoping to bring it back.
