This song has a lot to do with self-hatred. It's a song for those times when your fake self hates your real self. Only you know the real you. However, all of us put on a front/mask, even for people we are close to, in order to give them a better image of ourselves. This song talks a lot about how each of us have a "tear" (a split) in our personalities and that leads us to have "tears" (like crying). How we all have "fear" of showing others and even ourselves who we truly are. And how our fake selves actually don't even like our real selves and think that version of our personalities is weak. If you've ever struggled with self-hatred or doubt or are in a situation in which you have to be one way even if you don't want to, this is a song for you. Even the instrumentation reflects this battle of selves. There is the strings/orchestra/soundtrack part of the song trying to rise and rise, however, there is this competing beat with heavy bass overlaying it. Each one is building over the other and ultimately comes to a point where everything breaks. Genius lyrics, and genius instrumentation. To add, this song talks about getting to the point that you're so conflicting with yourself, that you have so much self-hatred that you just want everything about yourself to burn up, to disappear. The lyrics are very aggressive, using words such as tear, trample, burn, etc. RM/Suga/J-Hope even talked about how hard it was to write this song because of the number of lines they had to write. In addition, this song (much like Outro: Her) is giving hints about their next album/comeback. The entire song is genius level, no joke. This song is really underestimated. This is an example of how epic and beautiful rap can be as a musical genre. So many times, people think rap is all about dissing and spitting bars. I think this is one of BTS's best songs, both for it's sincerity and it's musical complexity (both in instrumentation and lyrics). This is NOT a Cypher 5 like so many say it is. It is seperate and, in my opinion, better than anything the rap line has done. Kind of a shame that some people don't get that, but I really appreciate how you guys take the time and really understand. I also really recommend just listening to the song on your own, in a quiet place, when you just are having a hard time. There's music for different situations in life, and this song is one of those very personal songs that does best when just experienced in your own place, own time. Thank you so much for your respectful reaction. Really love you guys. Much respect. (And let me also say, this song is MEANT for an open dome. I saw them perform this at Citifield in New York and.........just........no words. One of the best moments of my life. As good as it is to listen to here, it's just so, SO good live, ESPECIALLY at an open dome. And, yes, J-Hope just DESTROYED the ending. We all know he doesn't always go hard, but damn, here........just....damn. *slow clap*)

The whole album is about the bad sides of love. Basically, it’s how someone could have a relationship with someone else, but you could also have a relationship with yourself, and if you’re not true to yourself (or love yourself😉), it won’t work or the relationship will fall apart (note:I think it could also be directed to friendships and families. BUT that’s just what I think😄)

Seeing them perform outro tear live was the highlight of my life. The amount of energy the 3 of them had was insane. Especially J hope he went crazy on the track. J hope's part could be based on his own relationship. When he was younger his girlfriend left him for another man so this could be some inspiration for his lyrics.

J hope in my opinion is the best at portraying whatever emotion he wants the listener to feel. To which he did really well with this song and i think thats why he had the Fear part. Because although all of them could have done it. Namjoon and Yoongi I don't think would have faired as well with the Fear rap. Now this isn't trying to shade either of them. Namjoon and Yoongi are absolutely fantastic rapper. I just think the song is as great as it is because they gave each person the roles they fit best with and since J-Hopes portrayal of emotion is so good that with think particular song his part just sounds the best. This song is personally my favorite rap line song and honestly its straight up one of my favorite bts songs in general

LY tear is the album with Fake Love, talking about being in a toxic relationship that isn't working out. Thus, Outro Tear has the same theme. It has to do with parting and "tearing" away from a bad relationship. The album after Tear is Love Yourself: Answer. Where you find out that you don't need to stay in a toxic relationship looking for a false love (a "fake love") and you finding the answer to finally loving yourself. It is shown in the album's cover song - IDOL, where they embrace themselves as idols and artists and the chorus is literally "love myself". All the albums BTS has made all connects, taking the time to watch and video or googling it really opens your mind to how interconnected and well planned out this whole thing is - being spread out throughout years. But what I typed above is pretty much the jist of this song.

In a documentary about BTS, Burn the Stage, it was revealed that Suga wrote this at a time when the boys were seriously considering disbanding, i think in 2017, and when the other members listened to it they cried. It hits differently once you understand its them talking to each other. And please find the live performance of it with them wearing the Gucci outfits. Fire!!! 👍❤

I’m sooooo glad you did this!!! I don’t know why people sleep on Tear, honestly! I love every single thing the rap line has made, from the cyphers to Ddaeng, but this? This is the one song of theirs I put on repeat for a whole day since it dropped to this day. I try to mix up my playlist, but then this song comes on and I automatically change the play mode to “Repeat 1”. You don’t have to be heartbroken to appreciate this song. The lyrics and the emotions that they pour into Tear are enough to make your heart ache. A rare gift in the music industry these days. Another BTS song that jolts my heart in the same way is Spring Day.

So, a docu-series just got released- Yoongi mentioned that he wrote this song in early-mid 2018 when the boys were about to consider disbanding- meaning that this song isn't about breaking up with a lover, it doesn't come from that romantic heartbreak, but rather from a place of fear- Yoongi's fear of losing the members, losing his family, losing his soulmates. The raw emotion in their voices as they talk about leaving each other hits very different now.

Is anyone here after watching the Break the Silence episode in which Suga tells us why he wrote this song? I swear I find this song to be sadder than Spring Day. Do y'all remember Jin saying in an awards show in 2018 that they were planning on disbanding? It seems around that time suga wrote this song. jhope improved a lot on his rap skills, the lyrics, the emotion and the style .. to be honest, that's one of the many other things i love about BTS, they're all good at one thing but then they kept improving on it and even learn more beyond what they know they could do. they learn from each other, they respect each other, they keep on wanting to give a better version of themselves to us as an artist and as a person. a lot of artists stop doing that when they reach a certain level of fame, we know that. but they also know that and they don't want to be that kind of artist. i love them. and i love that you guys are always focused on understanding the lyrics 💜💜💜💜
