Spring Day is so beloved in Korea, it hasn't left the melon (the biggest music streaming platform in Korea, kind of like itunes/spotify for US) top 100 since it came out and it's on it's way to becoming longest charting song on melon ever

304 people died in Sewol Ferry Boat Tragedy, 325 passengers were High school students and most of them passed away. The government really handled the situation terribly. Snowpiercer is a Great film. It’s directed by Bong Joon-ho who is Korean. You should definitely see it. It reflects dystopian society which is kind of a foreshadowing of the path the world currently might be on. BTS has never outwardly said this song was related to tragedy, but it was taboo at the time to speak out against the government about the injustice. So I think public opinion had to be subliminal. BigHit and BTS secretly donated money to the victims’ families at the time, and it was only discovered much later that they did.

This is a tragic story of sinking of ship sewol ferry. There are many videos of students who were in the ship which was sinking. Some were crying some were taking it as a adventure. But no one knew what had happened next. Many students who were going to trip were died because of ignorance of Korean government and rescue team. It's very sad to see those videos as we know they are going to die but probably they don't . I feel proud because bts make this song and many Koreans love this song that's why this song is long charted song in South Korea. There was a teacher in that ship with her students. She helped many students to get out from danger area to safe place but she didn't make it. She was brave person who put her students life before her. I'm crying rn.

I watched the documentary on the Sewol Ferry tragedy. How the kids were recording videos at first because it was funny and they were so full of hope that someone would most definitely come and save them. And i saw their hope quickly demolishing when they started crying and sending love to their family members like they already knew it was over for them. Some of them cried for the dreams they never accomplished...It was heartbreaking to say the least.The Government and the media handled it very poorly tbh. I'm not even from Korea,but i grieved with them. Those kids will always be in my heart. And i appreciate BTS so much for standing for what's right and for using their music to actually discuss topics that matter. I'm glad i'm in the same generation as them. They are a blessing to us...always.

At the time I listened to Spring Day, I felt sad since it was avout the Sewol Ferry Incident. Today it hits differntly this song is about missing friends and recently my friend passed away on March 30th from a seizure. We are in our last year of High School and in the process of going to college. She was so excited and happy about going to college and I know she would have done great, now she can't do that. Everytime I enter the classroom, since all of us classmates been together for 4 years, we feel empty without one of us. Her loss still lies heavly on us and I hope she's resting in peace, and living happily in heaven. Thank you BTS for making such a comforting song for me, for you and for others about missing friends💜💜💜

i've known about the tragedy from this video, then i'd watch the video of them... one of the students upload it on youtube the scene on the ferry, i cried so many times.. now, every times i heard the song i feel sad..

i actually still dont know if all this theory about Spring Day is true but it does fit… the Sewol Ferry tragedy happened back then in 2014, if im not mistaken. that was a very very sad tragedy. i watched a lot of news and reports abt that unfortunate event and bc many ARMY believed that this song was a tribute so i cant help to cry everytime i listen to this song :''(

I think you would like to watch their dance practices. It showcases more their choreography and how in sync they are, plus you can actually notice the different dance styles each member has. For example: Jhope: Energetic and sharp, he puts a lot of effort in the details of the choreography. Jimin: Sensual and graceful, you can tell he learned contemporary dance because of his fluid moves. Jungkook: masculine yet powerful, he is very passionate about dancing.

I'm glad you reacted to this. Spring Day is one of BTS and ARMYs fav songs, we call her Queen Spring Day lol. It's such a beautiful song, full of sadness, longing, and hope. Being 21 yrs old, I've never felt these emotions in one song combined, BTS really made a masterpiece. I know the people of Korea are truly thankful for this song as it's a form of healing for them, Spring Day is always on the Melon charts (Koreas music chart name) because of how special the song is, even after 2 years of being released. The Sewol Ferry accident was so tragic. I watched a video a student took inside the Ferry as it was going down, it's still on youtube, I was in tears the whole time because the kids really didn't know what was coming for them as they were playing around and making jokes in the beginning. The Ferry staff all went to jail so no need to worry about that. The real issue is that the government covered it up and made the whole incident not seem like a big deal when it reall was. Like over 300 kids died!! Citizens were even trying to go rescue some of the kids still in the boat after days of no rescue team from the gov, the citizens set out to the water and the gov had stopped them MULTIPLE times. Some kids could've been saved since there was an area of the sinking ship that was still above the water, but it was like the gov didn't want to save them AT ALL. There are a bunch of conspiracies around the incident, but the real importance is that so many Innocent lives were lost. I hope the families and friends are doing well, couldn't even imagine how they feel.

I love this song way back before knowing the deeper meaning of it...now, after learning the meaning behind it makes me even love it more. I knew this is something special until I saw the explanation. BTS is not just a K-pop artist...they are all brilliant. This song is something that can be passed on to generations after generations. They just created a beautiful music that will forever leave a spot in our hearts. And the way they honored and remember all those victims through their music is really something else. They may be forgotten one day but their craft in music will be cherished. This is a brave music I should say. Korean people loves this song so much and the general public could not actually believe that this song is from an idol group (older generations have prejudice on idols because of the industry being manufactured, thus making bts standout more) There are a lot of theories to this song as the uploader mentioned RM lets us interpret it however we want he actually said that this song is about missing friends one time after springday won song of the year. somehow before i knew about BTS, i had read about the Sewol ferry incident. I had been reading something about sinking boats and came across the story online, I looked way too deeply into the story, saw too many photos, and too many videos that I probably should have let be (like videos of inside the boat during the time it sank, and videos outside the boat) a few months later i found BTS and when I heard the song Spring Day I cried so hard, I dont know hOw I made the connection to the Sewol Ferry sinking, (because im usually oblivious as heck) but it reminded me of that, ONLY to figure out that it was actually (though unofficially) related, or I was at least not the only one who made that connection. I still now, even though that was almost 2 years ago, cant listen to Spring Day without crying my eyes out, I could never in a million years understand the pain that the survivors, the families, the friends, or even the victims felt and still feel, but I feel so much grief and pain listening to Spring Day, the moment the song starts Im just flooded with everything I learned. Its so heartbreaking, I cant even imagine. My thoughts and prayers still go out to the survivors and families of those around or involved. Spring Day is such a beautiful and sad song on its own, but doubly (or triply) sad with the connection to the real life event. I avoid listening to Spring Day most days because there has not been one time so far that i haven't weeped over it, and sometimes i just cant sit around and cry. So yeah, i sobbed through this whole reaction.

I mean he was right about the peaceful, not really the joyful. It’s meant to be comforting to those that experienced loss, esp the survivors of the Sewol tragedy. Everytime I watch spring day mv the first thing comes to my mind is the sewol tragedy and sometimes I cried after watching the mv because the video inside the ferry keep playing in my mind where all the kids asking for help and how scared they were.. They even messaged and called their families that they love them and said they might not survive.. everytime I miss my dad I'll listen to this song because my dad also passed away in spring last year.. In Korea, the finger 'camera' connotes taking a snapshot of people, event, place etc. and saving the 'memory' in your heart.

BTS really indeed are artists for healing. There was a post/letter written last year during the anniversary of this tragedy by a father of a lost child. He said that he found a lot of comfort and solace through this song and it was able to help him grieve his lost child in a healthy way. I tried looking for that letter again, but I’m sorry...I can’t find it to translate in more details. It was a bittersweet heartfelt letter ㅠ.ㅠ

All the boys in this MV represents the survivors of the Sewol.V represents the person who feels guilty on making it out on the Sewol but his friends didn’t.All the happy moments represent the moments where the victims were having fun.The scene when RM was getting to get hit by the cake represents that people are blocking their way to seek justice for the victims.The clothes and shoes represent the victims‘ s clothing found in the sea.

BTS couldn't and can't directly say this song/mv was a tribute to the Sewol Tragedy because they'll get blacklisted. It's known that about 9000 artists got blacklisted for spreading awareness about the event. So adding these references in the MV were really risky for them, but they did it anyways and that's why I, and everyone else loves them so much.

RM wrote the song when he was in park to help others get through hard times. It's about losing friends. Which related to Sewol Ferry. BTS donated $100,000 to Sewol victims families. BTS are the nicest celebrities I have ever known. Jimin donated twice $100,000 twice for school in his hometown so the students can get better food. Last one is secretly donated for school but those who received it feel the need to released it to show how thankful they are. Jhope donated $100,000 on his birthday for those in need. Often BTS members donated for people in need. I just can't remember all.

Personally I don't think the song was written about the tragedy directly. Rather it's a song written about missing someone you love--maybe they dies or committed suicide. It's open to interpretation from the lyrics. The video --to me--definitely has subtle references to the tragedy. So I personally do see the video as an indirect tribute to the tragedy and the victims. For me the pile of clothes and the yellow ribbons on the carousel really bring to mind the tragedy theory. The Sewol ferry tragedy was a huge event in Korea. I remember it on the news when it happened but didnt really read up on it until Spring Day. Sometimes, Korean youtubers and commenters will say it had a similar impact in Korea like 9/11 in the US--it really traumatized the nation. The worst part of the tragedy is that the Captain and crew of the ship (essentially the adults) told the kids to stay put in their bunks. But the captain and crew evacuated the ship and they survived while most of the children died. Sadly, because we live in an age of social media there is video and audio of these innocent kids as they talk about what is happening, believing they are going to be rescued and hoping that things are not as bad as they seem. It's really, really sad. From what I understand (I'm not Korean so I don't know for sure)--the government reaction was slow and very poor. Eventually, this tragedy played a role in the impeachment of the South Korean president -- Park Geun-hye--because the Korean people were deeply dissatisfied with her response to the incident. I'm sure it was not the main reason, but there was a lot of anger about how things were handled.

Spring Day : This song was actually written to commemorate the sinking Sewol Ferry in South Korea in 2014. They wrote it to the people who lost their friends and families. The ferry carried 474 person. Most of them were Secondary School Students going for a school trip in Jeju island 299 people died on that day. 172 people were survived and 17 were missing till today. BTS wrote this and sang this song to support the families and friends of the victims. 😭😭

Another person commented on a different video of the explanation of Spring Day, that when Jin is making a camera with his hands as the others are going up the stairs, that it makes them think of the students that were recording themselves before they died and then he slowly brings his hands down in another clip. Also In the laundry scene, another person said that cause Jin represents the victims who died and the clothes are tumbling in water, which is what the students clothes would have done and when jin looks into the camera after that, it looks he is looking through a porthole watching the others grow up and survive, whilst he is stuck on the ferry drowning.

But I really love Spring Day-it explores abt the feelings of losing and missing a loved one and puts into words what I can’t even explain. I love BTS bec of their song commentaries abt real life sit’ns-theirs and their society. They sang abt their moving from one apartment to another (Moving On), loneliness (Whalien 52), their oppressive society (Baepsae, Not Today, Am I Wrong, Mic Drop), self acceptance (Paradise, Answer), and many, many more. Every song has a story and deep meaning. My song of the moment is TOMORROW, and sometimes, when I feel stuck, I just listen to it to find the strength to move on with life. If you look closely, in the laundry room scene. The washmachine window looks like the ferry window, the clothes Inside Are victimS and they asked us through their window to "don't forget'. And there's a clock Shows 9.45 when the ship is sunk. Also in laundry room, the lyric said "please wait a little longer". It as same as the order from captain crew to students to stay at their spot and don't move. Then the camera is tilting like when the ships starts tilting and the students still inside.

In laundry scene, the time on the clock is set to 9:35 AM when the accident happened. Also washer window represents the window of the ship where the sign says Don't Forget.

I remember the day of the tragedy very well, across the world we were being updates in real time. A lot of people on board were posting their goodbyes on social media as the boat was the sinking. It's horrible, awful and though I'm glad people are being held responsible it doesn't change how much everyone dropped the ball and failed the people who passes away in a situation that could've been avoided. Especially the Korean Government at the time. Like the survivors said, the best thing anyone can do is to remember them and never forget what happened on that day.
