You have given us an excellent intelligent explanation. I've learned so much from your explanations and have saved it to listen to again. Suga is a very intelligent man who is street smart. I wish him good health, peace and love. His perception of human nature and life is very honest. I believe he is doing this world tour not only for himself but also for BTS all the members and Army. That is only my opinion. 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 💜

Love your analysis of this 3 saga MVs 😊...i agree Suga is a genius...he tied all the series together and made us all think deeply...the Heageum moment for me was when he came back to the noodle restaurant holding the dectective jacket and when he paused when he was abt to eat with the chopstic...wow...🤯🤯🤯, its a damn cycle!!. For the final MV, I cried after watching it bec he suceedded to kill the "scarred suga aka the evil aka the bad memory". Suga is at peace now. I resonate with Suga too, I have found peace after several years of hurt and self blaming...like the lyric said...erasing one layer after the other takes time and healing too takes time...but we come out stronger and sharper. The times when the memories crop up (they still do try!!)... I will blast of Zero O'clock and Magic Shop. Borahea 💜🫰

Yoon-gi is brilliant. I hope he doesn't kill Agust D for good. We need him sometimes... 😅😁 He reminds us that when we judge others we should probably look into ourselves as well, or we become the monster... 😫 I agree with your analysis although I think Yoongis personal experiences with his mother's heart condition, his father's cancer, that they didn't support him in the beginning, his hard work during especially his trainee time, the accident and, self harm, the suicide attempt needs to be adressed too. He is being painfully honest here and it seems like part of his journey is to be open about it, facing his traumatic memories by sharing them with the world. Not for sympathy but for katharsis. Thus he invites Army to be part of his journey and he becomes even more relatable since we all have different traumas. Maybe we need to share them with others too, like he does...? we may conclude. So again he is mixing his own needs to open up and deal with his traumas with the thought of helping others by doing it, like in his talk shows and podcast when he was solving problems of others and was very comfortable in that position. OMG how he has blossomed! 😍 It was significant and heartbreaking that Jimin called Suga on the show, asking him for advice about how to overcome his shyness and make new friends. He was sort of joking and pretending to be himself at a young age, and Suga responded in a joking way, but at the same time Jimin is extremely shy with ppl he doesn't know and his trust in Suga's advice seems real. Both Face and D-Day connect in the way that they are both exposing and processing deeper, personal issues, and use symbolism alot, in their own unique ways. That is not surpricing since they are close, but artistically very different. 💜 How lucky we are that they're in the world! 😍

It’s great that you mentioned face. Because this was Jimin working on his own demons and we can see how both their stories relate. Jimin said that when he was struggling during the pandemic he ended up drinking and getting depressed. He said he was grateful the members just accepted what he was doing and going through but also advices him to use music to work on his feelings. I have a feeling Yoongi would be one of the members that would give this advice. It seems they got closer during this creative process! We are lucky to get two masterpiece work!

I agree with your interpretation for the most part, but for me he did not kill that part of himself. We hear him say in the interview with RM that every 2-3 years he goes through a difficult period and I guess it's when he creates since he has to draw from himself, he can't do otherwise since he is an authentic artist.... I think that in the lyrics as well as in the MV, he weakens this part of himself instead of killing it, we notice that from the moment Agust D says "what doesn't kill me makes me strong", the one locked in the amygdala starts to weaken until it crawls as Agust D says "let's erase them, one by one". Besides, it seems to me that when he is on the ground he whispers "Help" when his pre-accident self hears him and tries to save him. If you notice the one who is trying to save him is the one who has not yet gone through all the suffering so he is somewhat naive... And we are not talking about the role of the door that closes every time his dark self tries to free himself either by being strong or by dying, this door represents his self that has known the sufferings and aware of the danger of letting these memories in the amygdala free and torment you, so it is this less naive part that stays closed to protect Yoongi... In fact, for me he does not kill this part which are the trauma and the bad memories because he cannot and will never be able to, but on the other hand he can make them weaker so that it is not this part of him which dominates his life and which leads him to even more sufferings... Even at the very beginning of the MV when he is slumped on the sofa and seems weak too, we have this impression that he whispers "Help", it is not Yoongi who asks for help but his memories that try to survive each time they are forgotten. I hope I was clear coz english is my third language, so sorry if I'm not very eloquent.

I agree with you. I think in his video we see how even when we think we have conquered our most evil side, it sneaks back in disguised in another costume of our life. We see it and kill it over and over. It’s the constant cycle of all human beings. At least that’s how I feel about it. Nothing can truly be ‘erased’ instead we must absorb and conform with each experience in our lives. Growing stronger and stronger or weaker and weaker, depending on how we react. Anyway, thanks for your comment.

@@kathleenfason6382 You're right.. We have to try as much as we can, sometimes with professionnal help to make those memories and trauma in our amygdala weaker and weaker, otherwise they invade you and bring more struggles... Thats why during the trilogy, the scar is healing everytime he kill the villain, first the tyrant king then the corrupter gangster, until he locked him behind the door.... As he said in Rchita, the past is the past, the future is the future, let live in the present. Side note, the rain represent for me the healing tears, coz the yoongi on the scooter seemed to appreciate it and healed by it, while the one with the scar became more weak whispering for help at that moment... Letting your pain express itself by crying is healing and will make your bad memories less stronger.. He said it in People Pt2 "If you can't hold it back, it's okay to cry You're already more than enough to be loved".

A brilliant analysis. I think we have a lot to look forward to as Min Yoongi continues to unveil his genius. There is a notion that says that all creative inspiration requires regression and dipping into irrationality in order to access unconscious symbols. Plato said that creativity is a "divine madness...a gift from the gods", so it's really a double-edged sword isn't it? "Everything great in the world is created by neurotics. They have composed our masterpieces, but we don't consider what they have cost their creators in sleepless nights, and worst of all, fear of death." Marcel Proust Is Min Yoongi a creative genius? He has revealed himself to be an artist who in order to create his art must delve into the depths of his own divine madness to uncover the truth that his rational mind can then analyze. There are multiple layers to this brilliant man, more than perhaps even he realizes. It's going to be a privilege to watch him fully expand himself.

I appreciate you interpretation of this whole series. I personally think that we cannot kill the monsters within. The best we can do is to get to know them and learn how to live with them. From living with someone who deals with depression, I've learned that you can manage it but it will emerge from time to time and you will have to deal with it all over again. I see the series as a manifestation of this cycle. I love that you provide a space to have all these interesting conversations. Thank you.

It reminds me of Hi Ren. After singing/rapping an incredible conversation with the annoying voice within himself, he talks to the audience and says how his psychological troubles come and go, and will do so forever. And he learns to live with that.

I agree with you that you can't really kill "the monster" but that you lessen or remove how much power it has over your actions. So that you're not responding, irrationally sometimes, to an subconsciously remembered similar experience.

I love your opening comment. Suga being “very Suga.” Excellent analysis. He’s brilliant. When I was a poet in college several of my professors said I have invented the “gut kicker” school of poetry. So, you would understand how I feel such kinship to Yoongi. I wrote a poem, at about the same age as he is now, about what we do to ease our pain and how it never truly works. The last line was,..”sometimes, when it hurts, you have to just stand still and let it hurt.” Everybody hated that poem. LOL Like the video it doesn’t have a happy ending. But I think they both had a healthier ending being confrontation rather than escapism.

Very interesting take but a bit different from my own interpretation but we came to the same conclusion. While I do believe there may be messages of going against authority in Haegeum I think it’s main message is more personal to him which was confirmed to me by amygdala. First of all in several interviews Yoongi indicated that he has been evolving since the first album and he is definitely not in the same space he was in 2016 when he released the first mixtape. He said in that mixtape he was very angry...and you can also see this in his early BTS solos never mind and intro.beautiful moment in life. I believe at this time he wanted to pour out his pain anger and ambition into his music. But then by the time he was writing for the second mixtape, d-2, he realized that he was more at peace more introspective and he even said he regretted releasing some songs but he has let that go. It was at this time that he wrote Daechwita. Then with D-day he is much more “healed” he is in a more hopeful and positive space and he can look at himself and face his demons and conquer it. Although he said to watch the three videos in order of release I do believe it works in a cycle so that he is revealing to us the origin of his scar and his “evil” persona in the final video but Daechwita and Haegeum is actually after the scarring and shows the process of him confronting his evil and two times of his life so that he can finally kill it. I believe the end of Haegeum is him finally getting rid of the scar of the trauma and the evil in himself since the final surviving character has no scar. But as he looks at us in the end...there is still a question in his eyes as if to say...is this finally the end? Will the evil really be gone? Daechwita I believe, was actually about his own struggles against the evil king that he believed he became because of his ambition, greed and anger towards those that put him down and his haters. Here we see the scarred agust d for the first time in two characters, the mad king and the rebel. They are both scarred because at this time he recognizes that he is still very much affected by his trauma and he is still quite flawed. So he kills the first monster he was becoming since he truly wanted to be a more grounded person. In Haegeum we see that the rebel actually ended up becoming corrupt himself. We see that he did choose to become part of law enforcement so he may have good intentions at first...but as he rose in ranks, he is a detective at this point, he also became corrupt and this is shown by him leading a drug syndicate and he is doing this for money. The video opens up we see a scarless Yoongi approaching the headquarters with six other men. I think this gang represents the members of BTS. He acknowledges that in his confrontation of himself and fighting his own evil he is supported by the other members. I do believe he has this 6 people in Daechwita as well. I think this is the more healed or mature Yoongi that is trying to heal himself by confronting the final monster. But this persona is well guarded. We surround ourselves by different defence mechanisms and this is what Yoongi stabs with the chopsticks. When we go into therapy to try and heal from our trauma this is often what we need to do. That’s why it takes time to actually confront the personas that we create to protect ourselves because we become comfortable with it and usually don’t want to let go. So it will not be an easy task. So ultimately Haegeum ...the lifting of ban is restrictions is I believe his own self trying to get free from the evil persona that became a slave to greed and money, etc. So in the final confrontation he was able to do it because the scarred agust d was betrayed by his henchman...this shows that deep inside he does want to self destruct...that’s why he smirked before he was shot. In the end scarless Yoongi...presumably free from the effects of his trauma, is in control of the headquarters and presumably his life...but it’s not really sure if all will be well Cos the final look was ambiguous. In amygdala...I agree with most of your analysis. The amygdala, storing these painful impressions from his trauma has scarred him. It’s painful and he wants to get out of there, to free himself from the memories and pain. I think we differ in how we interpret the final scenes when the younger self rushed to the room and tried to open the door. I don’t think he saw something that scared him. I think he was shown hearing his inner self trapped in the amygdala asking for help...he wasn’t rushing there to hide, he was trying to open the door to help himself out of that scary room. But this is not possible because he cannot erase what actually happened just by changing the past...so in the end of this video he had to stay in with the scar. He had to heal the long way by going through Daechwita and Haegeum. I think either way we interpret it the result is the same...this is Yoongi sharing with us his trauma, then his evil persona that was formed to protect himself and the evolution he had to go through to be free from the evil impulses, the monsters he was creating. Brilliant work...he is a genius!

I have a very different interpretation of this MV. I sent it to a friend who is trapped in a childhood trauma. It is literally making her sick in many ways. It ruins all her relationships. The door won’t open. (She didn’t comment on the MV, she probably felt very offended, oh well…). For me this movie shows this being trapped in past shocking experiences. PTSD. It doesn’t have a happy ending. The only relief is the rain. I don’t see the trapped person as a monster that needs to die. I see it as a miserable part of the self that needs to be liberated.

I dislike blanket statements when it comes to mental health. "Hurt people, hurt others" is not a factual statement! It is common but some people actually end up being more inclined to hurt themselves, instead of others and many people who are more resilient, have better coping skills and don't hurt anybody. It all depends on the person. The amygdala stores trauma. I'm not saying you're theory is wrong or I am right but how I perceived the music video was that Yoongi was stuck reliving his trauma in PTSD flashbacks with the accident. You could see him jerking in the dream just before the accident. The younger Yoongi was trying to open the door from the outside, whilst the trapped Yoongi was trying to get out. It appeared to me, that he was trying to save himself from all that suffering but couldn't. I perceived the traumatic memories in the amygdala as so overwhelming the mind can't deal with them and the amygdala stores them as a defense mechanism. I don't see them as evil or even monstrous (traumatic memories certainly can be for many people though due to horrific abuse). To me, the scar was a visual representation of the trauma and how it affected his thoughts, beliefs and behaviours through Agust D. Many people with certain mental health conditions have maladaptive coping strategies and self-harm is one of them to relieve severe emotional pain, whether it be by cutting or burning themselves, etc...or can be prone to dissociation when things get stressful. Most people learn to self-soothe in the developmental stage, where some miss out on learning that due to enviromental conditions and insecure attachments. I probably haven't explained what I wanted to say very well but that was my take on it, just as someone who has a lived understanding on how trauma from a young age can affect the mind and body No offense meant to creator of video.
@marissamcwhiter9381
@marissamcwhiter9381 Год назад
Great insight! I agree with your interpretation of what young Yoongi was trying to do with the door. I think your first instinct is to deny what happened and to just escape the pain...but young Yoongi can’t save him...he has to stay in the amygdala and learn to live with the trauma and deal with it in different ways. I do think we are interpreting the work of Yoongi which reflects how he sees the world and how he dealt with the pain. So it’s just specific to his own struggle. You are right there are many ways people have dealt with this and will depend on so many factors!

Ed Sheeran has said this often...that’s why for them the goal is to create something that can be relatable and can be used by others to help them in their situation.
