I love Abyss. It means so much to me that he wrote that song, the accompanying letter to ARMY, and released it on his birthday. The vulnerability Jin demonstrates is out of this world inspiring to me.
Abyss was about Jin. He wrote it when he was feeling really depressed. Promise his what Jimin promised to himself (also depressed at the time) , V is reflecting about present past and future if the future will be a beautiful scenery (happiness), JK song is about his feeling for ARMY. All those songs are very personal and dear to them

In some ways Jin's Abyss reminds me of Jungkook's "Decalcomania." He seems to feel the need to get to know himself better, to listen to his heart more, to be more understanding and tolerant of his own flaws and shortcomings.

So many bad things happened during that time that he was out of social media, even now he still barely comes on social media. I wasn’t even an ARMY yet back then but I still heard about it. ARMYs were so worried about him. He came back with this song produced by himself in that year. Our pure boy, he deserves the whole world and more. We will always protect him.

Jimin also wrote promise when he was not satisfied with his vocals so RM told him to write a hopeful song that how he is feeling better now. so he wrote it. jimin went live a few days ago and he said that listening to promise again makes him feel like he was more innocent when he wrote this when he was younger. fun fact namjoon helped jimin a ton with the lyrics of this one! he also helped seokjin with abyss's chorus AND u can see him help jungkook with the lyrics of still with you during "in the soop". it is insane how talented he is and how he is always ready to help them out in their songs
If you want to hear Jungkooks whispery , breathy vocals, then you should listen to his cover songs. Because he does that alot. His cover songs like Oh Holy Night, Only Then, 2U, Purpose and Nothing like us have been realeased on soundcloud, but you can find them on youtube And to be honest I enjoy JKs rendition of the songs more than the original. Its worth a listen, believe me.

When they release their solo songs, they usually publish them with a letter on their official blog, and they're good for reference about the meaning of the lyrics. Doolset Bangtan includes a translation of the letter with the lyrics translation, it might be helpful

“His whispers have notes” is so beautiful and apt description of Tae’s singing voice. His singing evokes feelings…from the depths of you you didn’t know you have. And always he doesn’t need a lot of accompaniments.

Jin’s solo songs are most relatable to me and his beautiful voice always makes me cry. I usually don’t cry while listening to music but the way Jin puts so much emotion into his singing just pulls at my heart strings. ❤️
Scenery and Still With You are my faves out of this lineup. V’s solos are generally my favorite, but I also adore Lie, Filter, My Time, And Epiphany. They’re all so different and I just love that. They have their own style and it clearly shows in their solos, especially the ones they compose themselves. Please react to Sweet Night and Snow Flower. Tae’s musicality is insane and I love the old school feel his songs have.
For me i absolutely love V and jin’s voice, they are so unique, so soulful and really holds alot of emotions. I love jimin and jks voice too but you know V and jin has that power to just get you in your emotions. Also promise is my all time fav song. Hope you react to sweet night by V cause you know you need to heh.
Whenever I listen to one of their solo "free/gift to the fans" songs, my thoughts would go, "How come their free songs that are not even in the albums are as good or even better than most title songs of other kpop groups/solo artists???" Those songs are just music exercises to hone their craft and to express their individual ideas/feelings musically, and their label highly encourages this so that they can keep developing as artists. I just can't get over the fact that they still have good lyrics and good production despite being free and earning no income for the artist and/or the company.
I hope you get to listen to V's most recent song "snow flower" His voice is just like a warm hug in a front of fire place in a winter midnight with a hot cocoa mug with marshmallows
Still with You and Abyss are songs that they wrote for ARMY. The "girl" that they are talking to is their fans. Both of them are talking about their loneliness and depression, thanks to Covid and being separated from their fans. You were right that Jimin was speaking to himself in Promise. The promise was from him to himself. Scenery is about V's love for photography and what it means to him. Jin and Jungkook's songs were just released last year. Promise was released in December 2018 and Scenery was released a month later in January 2019.
What a great reaction! Totally agree with you about Jimin. I love all their voices but Jimin has this distinctive voice that give flavour to BTS songs. I have favorite solos of everyone but I love all Jimin's solos even the collaborative ones eg WHO by Lauv. I just hope Jimin would feel the same and won't doubt of his talent. He will do more I think if he is more confident of himself. #JIMIN

Hi, fellow musicician here, and I just had to pause in your JK reaction to say that all his unexpected directions give me so much mental and emotional stimulation! I marvel at how his brain works while composing, bc his melodies are as different as he is as a person. "Your Eyes Tell" and "Film Out" are top examples of his "all over the place and against scales/expectations" melodies!
did you see his birthday Vlive where he made a song out of ARMY messages? :) I don't think he got to quite finish it because it's really really hard making a song on the spot with literally millions of people watching. but it was so nice for him to show us a glimpse of how his song making/recording process works, not to mention the beautiful gesture that is. giving US a gift on HIS birthday :)
I always believed promise came out the exact moment I needed it, not to get into it but I was in a really dark place and this song felt like it was a literal plee to me from Jimin, I got promise tattooed on wrist, to remind myself that I made a promise to someone that I will not throw myself away, he holds me accountable for my own existance, and that I matter every day to someone.
Promise is the answer to Lie, where he promises us and promises that he will no longer be demanding so much from himself, one of the concerts where Army surprised them singing a song inspired him to write it for the love of army. Realize that Jimin in some of the BTS songs is the one who manages to do that kind of rapping like a fast phrasing especially in that medium vocal range it sounds so good he is so amazing he sounds very sexy, so intimate and pleasant especially listening to him in this kind of songs with just one guitar I love it.

2nd comment 😅 when I first heard promise I thought „it’s such a cute song!“ but after I read the lyrics and delved a bit deeper I realized that it has many layers. Once you watch the second docuseries you will know more about how and why jimin wrote it.
You are correct about Jimin singing this talk to himself, however, he also extended it to Army. So the song is for them too. I completely agree with you about his mid-range which is so so beautiful and unique. I too have never heard a voice like Jimin's before.
Idk which one is my favorite. For me it's between Promise and Still with you. Promise is just so pure and simple. Still with you is a song I listen to a lot, it's so beautiful and just listening to it makes me feel emotional.

Tae’s solos don’t usually make my playlists because I’m not a huge fan of just soft, lullaby like songs. (Inner Child and Snow Flower are my faves of his though!) But I feel like if I listened to music to fall asleep it might be just his stuff. Very soothing.
I love when you get technical in your reactions because you have such a deeper understanding of that side of music than I do. Like the thing with Scenery having a really hard to identify time signature. Stuff like that is so interesting to me but I’d never pick up on it myself. As for the song meanings, I think V’s song is about his love for photography, Jin’s Abyss is a very introspective song from when he was experiencing a lot of burnout. Jimin’s promise is about his own struggles with mental health, but sung too ARMYs who are going through the same thing. It’s like ‘let’s all make a promise to each and ourselves to get through this and to find the light in ourselves’.
I love each and every song and their voices abyss is so beautiful and so pure , promise I remember being obsessed with the song when it came out and still with you is full of love... but scenery I freaking love this song and it was the first time a voice that made me cry without knowing the lyrics and I was pretty new to them it had a impact on me will always be close to my heart
