I met the first version of Ward Swingle's vocal group in the 1960s. This formation (which has been a septet since 2011) is truly magnificent. Ward died in 2015, but continues to fly around. Thank you Jeff for opening your channel to these music.

Incredible! I grew up listening to the original Swingles in the 60’s when they did all Bach. I learned to jazz sing a lot of Bach off their records. This incarnation is spectacular! ❤

The guy singing the low bass was mostly imitating a bass trombone. If you've heard music from India, the guys who play the tablas (drums) will also sing the drum sound which is what that guy was also doing with his vocal drum solo. I remember the Swingles from back in the 60's and then re discovered them on RU-vid a year ago. Still amazing and my favorite vocal group.

Jeff, you have led a sheltered life if you've not heard of The Swingles. They've only been round since 1973, well before any of the current members were born. First, Ward Swingle from Alabama formed the Swingle Singers in Paris in 1962. They did jazz arrangements of "Classical" music, starting with J.S.Bach and moving forward in time & sold millions of records all over the world until Swingle shut them down in 1972 and moved to England. This group was started as Swingle II & did madrigals on their first album. Since then, they have done show tunes, folk music from around the world, avant garde, Beatles and other rockers, jazz, and classical, including the entire Swingle Singers repertoire, and always in the vocal style known as "Swinglese." Early on, they were accompanied by a jazz rhythm section, but have been mostly a capella for years. In 52 years, there have been about 40 members from all over; the current lineup is 5 Brits, 1 American (US), and 1 Indian (East India) (who replaced an Italian since this was recorded). The alto (the blonde) is the daughter of a former musical director of the group. The Brit soprano has been in the group for fifteen years or more. Originally an octet, they eliminated one alto slot in 2011.

I wasn't aware the Swingle Singers were still going, now as the Swingles. I knew them in the sixties/seventies with a Capella renditions of classical pieces. They do a marvellous rendition of "Air" by Bach, a reprise of the Ward Swingle arrangement the original Swingle Singers did with the Modern Jazz Quartet, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-03Gn4loM7As.htmlsi=uiojbY1dvBR7e_25 .... People sang before they spoke.🙂 This is an interpretation of a Bulgarian folk song. I would like to recommend you an interpretation of another Bulgarian folk song by a young Swiss artist that appeared on RU-vid a few months ago. "Kaval sviri - Bulgarian folk song" by Luca Pizzetti: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qCwrVjPml98.htmlsi=vIFzpKEW_fPirKFL Best regards and enjoy listening!
