A Turko-Mongolic ruler erects a building in India, an Italian explorer explores a new land, Africans brought there by Portuguese, a Brazilian man who is one of descendant of these Africans makes a song about this building, a Japanese man who has a Chinese father makes a cover of this song. History and world is just crazy! Music truly brings us together.
I'm in the psych ward rn. Watching this truly gives me hope that once I'm out of here I can hopefully feel better. Masayoshi Takanaka is one of my favorite artists and seeing the pure joy of everyone performing here makes me smile.
I hope you can come out of it strong! His music really does wonders in making my mood feel better. I'm just a stranger on the internet, but I wish you the best in recovering! Much love ❤
blame capitalism. if everyone's needs met regardless of their race or labor and more on the basis of simply being a human to be taken care of we would have more time to actually live life. more time for art, scientific discoveries, new expressions through music and entertainment. communism must win fellow life lover
The man shredding on his Cuíca is underrated. Such a fun instrument to hear and I love seeing that guy having an absolute blast with it. He even gets his own solo!
i was astound that he does that with the inside of the drum, its crazy talent and he looks so happy! (if not a little derpy). That he can make a laughing sound in the original solo number is crazy and still makes me so happy and emotional. this al is just so great, my god.
You should check out his compilation All Of Me, it's some of his tracks (which are great) with him skydiving, thumbs up, in front of an island. Trust me, he might be the coolest man in the world.
As an American, I'm ashamed of my country that we lack the cultural respect for artists and just celebrities in general. The people in Asia, Europe, etc know how to be fans without being fanatics and I wish even a shred of that civility and courtesy could be infused in the people here.
@@cultus_diabolus Lmao it happens in Japan too. I’ve been to a few shows where people go absolutely crazy and try to get on stage, that’s just the way things are. Jazz and jazz fusion shows usually have more mellow crowds, both in the US and in Japan.
You have to appreciate a man who can put together a show where not a single musician on the stage isn't having the time of their lives. Nobody be havin' fun like older musicians making something like nothing you've ever heard before while simultaneously exactly like everything nostalgic from 50 years ago.
it looks like that (probably in their contract to smile) but most of the band is stuck in repetitive motion to lay down the backing for Takanaka. Jam bands have the musicians interact with each other and develop the song in that moment.
@@papa_pt did we watch the same video? Everyone is improvising fills all over the place and they all get individual solos save for a couple. Believe it or not, some people just love making music.
@@papa_pt I only started playing recently and I've never been in a band but to be part of something that's making that big of a crowd that happy I'm pretty sure everyone is enjoying it, even the tambourine and other percussionists who I think you're referring to.
when the song started, I started crying immediately. That was my older cousin's fav and when I was a kid I live in his apartment during summer time I always hear this song. He played games with me and brought me to play basketball. He died 2007, cerebral hemorrhage caused by falling from stairs when he was 26 years old, and now Im 32. The rhythm of an endless loop
I also connect many songs to memories in my life. Your cousin sounds like he was a great guy. Keep this song and your fond memories of him throughout your life. Cheers~
Seeing happy middle-aged Japanese people with glowsticks cheering politely at a concert of some strange Samba/Japanese musical hybrid group is such a life motivator. Honestly, long gone are the days of smoking pot but out of all the times I would have loved to smoke up and experience something live. This would have been it. What a cozy vibe.
I'm unsure what it is, but Takanaka has a unique ability to invoke joy through his playing. More than just a "yeah, this is cool", like a "yeah, life is great" kinda joy. Truly one of the greats
This is like the song that you always hear in you head when you're living one of the best moments of your life... it has to end at any moment, but you enjoyed it.
I'm so fucking happy I clicked on "all of me" randomly... Masayoshi is quickly becoming one of my favorite musicians I've ever heard. Man is just groovy. End of story.
I did some research and I was able to find credits for some of the other musicians. Drums: Masahiro Miyazaki (8:37) Percussion: Nobu Saito (8:58) Bass: Hideki Matsubara (8:15) Keyboards: Hiroyuki Namba (9:21), Makoto Aoyagi (7:46) Some of them still perform with Takanaka, or at least they have in recent shows. Edit, thank you to the people who found the rest. Cuíca: Damião Gomes de Souza (9:44) Surdo: Kaká Nomura Pandeiros: Dario Sakumoto, Juninho Martins
If you find the name of the cuica player please don’t be a stranger :) feel like I’ve seen him before in one of jorge ben’s live performances of taj mahal.
Music is art, everything is art. Joy can be interpreted by music. You can say that the music of him sounds like it has been made with tons amount of joy and i can only agree, its perfect. The plain straight up reason for music right here, this is how music should be done
I couldn't say it any better myself. From the very first song I heard from Masayoshi I knew he was a happy soul and wanted to spread his joy through his music.
No better words. I tear up every time I see this comment, thinking about all the different people you can find under any videos of him all expressing their universal love for his work. There is no language barrier it's all just one happiness, one heart, all joy
Now this is what pure “cool” is, I think it’s pretty hard to find exact embodiments or examples of “real cool” but this is damn well one of those examples. The whole stage is “real cool”, hell it seems like every single person there is “real cool”. Strive to be that cool , please.
Japanese performing brazilian samba in a song about the indian Taj Mahal. THIS is the best side of globalization. F frontiers. I, we, the world needs more of this please
i was born too late to discover new lands, and too early to travel among the stars. but i got to this planet just in time to discover this man. and thats enough
1:41 i didn't know this existed but it's so cool wtf Also Takanaka is currently 69 years old, and was already 55 on this video. Damn i wish we could all look this good & be this cool at 55
i planned running one day. after 2 years run 4 km. played that album i ran 20 km and I was happier than ever taking picures of the sea, dipping my tee shirt and running again
Just because you have a bunch of people on stage playing “percussion” doesn’t mean it’s any good. Go listen to some fela kuti if you want to hear some actual talent
Wanderer, If you found this, I'm proud of you. Witness the beauty of ancestors or strangers. Find the joy in the things that is or isn't. We love you all. Steal your joy back and dominate your story.
am i the only one who feels extremely sad when i listen to the synth? like it exudes melancholy. it makes me want to cry. it is just a lot of feelings and thoughts rushing through my head at once when it plays. it's so terribly beautiful.
alright youtube, it took me a few years to click on the video with the guy playing a surf-tar but i finally did it, and it's beautiful. And you know what? I did it at precisely the right time what a heavenly set.
Takanaka might be the raddest dude to have ever lived, that surfboard guitar is amazing. Shoutout to his whole band too, excellent performances all around.
Everyone is talking about Masayoshi Takanaka's ridiculous guitar skills, and rightfully so, but can we also take a moment to appreciate the guy playing what looks like two pianos at once?
