Beautiful knives. That 119 you showed is gorgeous as well. I haven’t entered the Buck world yet but I enjoyed seeing what you enjoy. Thank you brother. Im excited to see some civil war footage soon.
Glad you enjoyed it my friend. We all have our "thing." I always enjoy the variety of knives that everyone showcases. It really is eye opening to see so many different patterns and makers. Thanks for watching.
I have a other than 102 buck bird & trout knife i use with xxl hands with no issue, i think these size knives by any maker are great for small game & panfish which they are designed no matter your hand size, to me its the way you finesse your knife to make proper use of it
Over the last few (10) years I've been making the transisition from folders to fixed blades... I recently found a Buck 102 (Black handle) at a yard sale CHEAP! Looking forward to using it on some critters this fall :)
I haven't used one on a critter but I've seen many great comments about using this knife for that. I hope that you enjoy using it. Thanks for watching!
The 102 Pro is on my list. As for multiples, I have two Buck 110s (50th Anniversary and a custom with etched blade, wood scales and nickel silver bolsters) and will soon have 3 Case Medium Trappers. Good one, Tom!
I think it makes a very good general purpose knife. It would also be great as a secondary knife to have with you. This does depend on your hand size, as some with larger hands find the handle to be too small for them. You may want to check out the 105 also. The 105 is a little bit bigger. Thanks for watching Bosco!
I have wanted to add a 102 to the collection for some time now. Yes, just so you can make me say it out loud, I buy multiple knives in the same pattern! 🤣

You bet he's gonna love it. Just after I made this video I got a limited run 102 with red micarta handle and S30V steel. I got it from Copper and Clad. Is that where you ordered yours? Thanks for watching James.
Beautiful knives Tom, nice to see three different versions of the same pattern. I recently picked up a 119 and a 120 as they were on sale. The 119 was a no brainer but I think I should have gotten the 102 instead of the 120! Great video, thanks 👍🤙
You are welcome, my friend! I keep spending money on 102's, and need to get a 120! Be sure and check out my Buck knives playlist. I have a series of videos which give an overview of my Buck collection. Thanks for watching!
Knives with a blade length and size of knife like these are popular because of their versatility. All knife brands make one in some form closely the same or with slight changes. Not too long and not to short just the right size having more than one is just part of collecting knives. 😅🤣😂
Just discovered your channel! Nice review, I stumbled upon this video looking for comparisons between the 102 and the 117 Brahma while doing a little shopping today. Ended up going for the Brahma as a good all-rounder and look forward to receiving - yet another - purchase from Blade HQ. Thanks for the review, this now makes me want a 102 as well! Ha! ....funny how that happens. I don't know where you were when filming, but what a relaxing landscape and with all of the birds chirping, I found the sounds so relaxing; I can almost feel the breeze in the air. Thanks!
Glad you are enjoying the channel, John. Welcome Aboard! The 117 Brahma is a wonderful knife, and I think I prefer it over the 119 Special. Thanks for watching, my friend.
I'm very guilty of buying multiples of the same pattern. Buck 110 tops that list with 420, 5160, S30v, ebony, micarta, g10, Elk, clip & drop points.... plus 110 variants made by Western, Schrade/Uncle Henry, Case... and even more broadly, Folding Hunters in general - lock backs, slip-joints, single blade, two-blade, big, medium and small.... which sort of spills over into vast universe of Trappers... My problem, I like to collect knives... It's a good problem.
Mabey I'm not looking in the right places, but I cant find the brass, cocobolo, and brown leather sheath. Where can I get a 119 in this configuration? Also how much more do they cost.
A quick answer. Try the custom shop on Bucks website. You may be able to get something similar there. I'll try to look at some other places and let you know.
I love these knives, don't have a buck one yet but the s35vn model is my favourite. I do have a rough rider bird and trout which I enjoy using as a package opener.atb paddy
Hello my friend. Are you able to get Buck knives there? May I suggest a video on your rules and regs there. What can be mailed in and what is taboo? Thanks for watching shipmate.
I need to get a 102, my favorite knife pattern in fixed blade is a bowie knife. My favorite slipjoint pattern is a very hard decision?? I gotta say the trapper and the Barlow!!
Great video I’ve only got one of them!!!! I have the black fanaloc one!!!! I like it quite a bit I need to pick up more buck knives!!!!! Thanks so much for showing them your videos are always so in-depth…… thanks again stay well out there!!!!
If you are looking for a sheath, you may want to contact John at J.O. Ventures Outdoors. He has a great channel, and he does great leather work. Congrats on getting a Buck 102. Thanks for watching, Kane.
Great video. Have been a Buck fan my entire life, since I was just a kid and not even strong enough to close my dad's Buck 110. Anyway, again, great video and you've got a new subscriber.
The following a some of the knives that are not bigger or smaller 119: 101, 103, 105, 212, 118, 121, 124, 104, 116, 113, ground combat knife both versions, Messa, 188, 184, 185, 107, Vanguard, there are others like the skeleton handled knives. The only ones that are bigger & smaller 119 are the 102, 117 and 120. Hope this helps. Peace.
I just got in the Buck 529 in oyster eel skin in today. It is such a beautiful and elegant knife. I got it on eBay. If you have a chance to pick up this series definitely do it. There are 7 knives in the series.
I have seen them on ebay but haven't gotten around to getting on. I do have a Buck Treasury that is very similar. It is so smooth. Thanks for the recommendation!
Lol I've seen some of the buck knives like that style {119/120} and it had like an elk horn grip or something like that lol, you may have to look for that one! I definitely buy multiple item of the same thing. I love old revolvers and all the ones I like I want the exact same gun, same barrel length in blued and in nickel AND if they have one, a stainless also. I have a nickel S&W Mod. 36 with fake pearl and a blued one with walnut grips. Haven't found a square butt stainless one yet as those are both square butt. With these Buck knives, I love the micarta handle and I want 102/117/119/120/124 all with that handle. So instead of multiple of the same knife with different handles, I want several with the same but different sizes lol. Nice knives, thanks for sharing! Oh yeah, I just got my first blued 3" tapered barrel Mod 36 as well, the other two are snubs. Now I just need a 3" tapered barrel nickel in square butt of course!
The one's with stag handles were most likely special runs. I have seen them on Ebay, and boy are they pricey! Thanks for the feedback, Eric. I appreciate you watching, my friend.
@@knifedelights7473 I just looked on the Buck website and they have a customizable 112 and you can make one with the stag grip. You can add finger grooves if you like and the rivets if you like. Brass or nickel bolster, a choice of different blades as well. It's about 170-205 depending on your choice of options. I'm probably going to order one before too long. It won't be vintage, but I bet older ones are going for more.
For me, I really like the finger grooved model. It seems like they used my hand for the model! Please let me know if you order one, and when you get it, what you think of it.
Yes it does. I think it's safe to assume that all Buck USA Made knives since the 70s have the Bos heat treat. But, there may be some exceptions. Thanks for watching!
The 102 is one of my favorite patterns. If you are interested, I have a Buck playlist and I have many videos on Buck knives, including many fixed blades. I appreciate you stopping by, David!
I have one i bought from a private seller that is like the oldest on the left, but mine has 2 dark brown/burgundy lines on top and bottom. The one you have has only 1 line on top and bottom. Any idea why i have a 2 line one?Black handled too.
There were subtle differences in the color and number of micarta spacers over the years. Can you tell me what the tang stamp says? Is it a one line, two line or three line tang stamp? I could tell you more if I could date the knife. Again, thanks for stopping by, my friend.
@@fbomb2077 Since it is a 3 liner tang stamp, there should be a symbol next to the 102. The Buck website has a chart which shows the symbol which indicates the year that the knife was made.
I have every model of the 105 I could get my hands on . The buck 102 is just to small for my hands . It works fine for little jobs , but if on a bigger job like butchering an animal my hand gets cramped up from holding the 102. The 105 fits my hand better and can cut all day with it . My favorite steel is s30v . I can butcher 3 animals without having to sharpen . S35vn does not make it and needs resharpened before the job is done .
I started collecting the 102s, but now have a couple of the 105s. I don't think that there is a 100 series fixed blade that I don't like. They each have their own applications, and yet are all very good all purpose knifes. Thanks for watching Idaho!
I have a Buck 102-S Woodsman. It came with a different sheath than what you show. The Sheath says 102-S Custom. My father had a martial arts store in the Early 80's and he gave it to me. It is one of my favorite knives. Great video.
As far as I know, the 106 is a hatchet. But they may have had a knife model years ago. I will try to research to find out for sure. Thanks for watching, my friend.
I ordered my first Buck 102 Woodsman with cherrywood, and I am really excited to see it, even though it is a small, fixed blade. I like the wood handle knives the best.
I can't tell you what it is, but there is something about the 102. Congrats on picking one up. The Cherrywood handle will look fantastic, I bet. Thanks for watching, my friend.
I took those annoying plastic bits out of mine, copied them to some 1 to 1.5 mm leather and put the leather into the sheath and ended up with beautifully fitted sheaths.
Absolutely gorgious knives. I would love to have a 102 with the Cocobolo handle and stainless guard and pommel to go with my 119. I just can't afford one. Thank you for sharing with us Tom.
For the pure looks and beauty, the cocabolo handle is my hands down favorite. For actual use, I the one in D2 steel that I also purchased would be my choice. Thanks for the good question and for stopping by!
I love the 117 (small special) or ss. It feels like the missing buck. The 102 always felt too small for me, great for kids and women but I have large hands like men should 😄. I also like the 105 but feel the blade is just a bit too long for such a narrow blade. The 119 is a bit fragile for a knife it's size, meaning normally when I have a knife that 119 sized and up, it inspires harder use. I naturally use it for things like botoning and chopping, things a true full tang are better suited to. The 117 is imo the best size for a general camp knife. Not too small that it's not ver useful and not so big that it inspires heavy-duty use/light abuse.
I agree that the 117 seems to be just the right size for camp. Buck made lots of different models in order to suit just about everyone's needs. They all have their intended purpose. Thanks for watching, my friend!
