Budget brigade. I think if that was a defective pedal, it is a decent buy. Drill a hole in the case to access the switch, or solder in my own switch and mount it on top where it should be.

Budget Brigade!!! Ha ha! Great review Andy, and I really like how you show the real world frustrations of the rest of us simpletons regarding things like having the mod speed control on the inside of the pedal and requiring 2 tools to access it! AAAARGH! A small EXTERNAL trimpot will do nicely TC Electronic, thank you. I realise that when shops review gear they have a vested interest in selling them so they tend to leave things out like this and probably the thumping issue too, so it's great to know that you have our backs. I liked the actual sound of the pedal, and I suppose as a home studio only bod I could live with the mod speed shenanigans once or twice but after that I would find it tedious. I have a TC Electronic Thunderstorm Flanger which, while being one of the most dramatic flangers I own, also suffers from quite a lot of clock noise if with certain settings and has a whacking great thump when the footswitch is engaged ON but I decided to keep it as it cost about £26 delivered and I just stay away from those settings and use a Boss LS-2 Line Selector to bring the flanger in . Shame though as it feels like it's made out of solid steel. Anyway, thanks again for a good honest review Andy.

TC electronic has really impressed me the past couple years with their affordable options that approach the very expensive versions in quality. In my opinion they are absolutely leading the industry in value. Whenever I'm shopping around for a new pedal that does a specific thing TC electronic usually has an option for the best price. Pretty insane.

The thumping sound in this Budget Brigade pedal is likely to be clock noise which is pretty common in simpler BBD designs. Still couldn't live with it. Cheers Andy! Great honest review.

Isn't this just the nature of these circuits, once you start turning the feedback up, noise / clicking the switch just starts repeating itself inside the unit

Good honest review, thumping convinced me not to buy saying that i had a worse problem with a carbon copy of loud audio click switch and also a thumping when mod was engaged, had to get rid of it

Budgetbrigade - I will wait to buy for the next version without that issue. But nice sound and nice modulation Really interesting pedal.intelligent product. I like the modulation depth knob ( not on the Gauss). Speed is not really necessary.

It’s always fun to check in with you Andy. Great review, the switch is a definite turn off. But I tend to noodle around on the guitar. If I build a guitar I shall name it “Ramen” so when I play it I will have some Ramen Noodles 😂😂

As a member of the budget brigade, I think that you were unlucky with a defective thumping pedal. I see why they left the trim pot on the inside - not that many people will want to use it, but I appreciate they added it for those who do want to. Another great honest review.

I'd use it, at least could be a mini pot and most mod delays have a speed control. Like memory mans switch, its the fast vibrato vs chorus on the fly. Hard to dial in when upside down too..

Nice review! If I were to buy this and like it, I would drill a hole through the enclosure so I could adjust without taking the bottom off. For under $70 bucks, what would I have to lose. Damn that thump though!

Sounds like my Keeley Mag Echo clone. It's called "Magnetic Delay" from Mosky Audio. It's like that except all the knobs are on the outside with no switch. You just turn modulation down to 0 if you want if off. It's got a 2nd LED that flashes with the speed of the modulation, also. Both LED's are the blue death ray LED's 🤣 so I've got painters tape over them to tame the brightness 🤣😁

I've actually got the Mag Delay running into a 2nd stereo delay pedal from Donner, the White Tape Delay, so I can split it if I feel like it. That Donner delay is really really nice too. Way nicer than I expected. Sounds great, also.

Wondering if one could add a dial to the speed pot, sort of like the thumb wheel on a Jaguar and you could cut a slot and adjust the speed with out having to possibly remove the pedal from the pedal board, which may be required if one simply drilled a hole in the back. Just a thought on this Budget Brigade Pedal

bought a used one with no manual so i wasn't immediately aware there is an internal modulation speed trimmer. would of been a good thing having speed on the outside instead of the switch as depth turns the modulation off when set to zero depth... nice pedal for cheap tho and small on the board. you will lose those tiny screws tho adjusting internal speed my pedal was already one short.

True story: I was in Canada with my family for summer vacation. We stayed at a fish camp you could only get to by boat. What used to be called Dominion Day, which is now Canada Day, is on the first of July. So of course morons were setting off firecrackers and the things that just go BOOM and wouldn't you know, some of the underbrush caught fire. It moved fast, it ran up a really tall pine tree in less than a second. So everybody and their mother came down to the water, leeches be damned, and formed a *bucket brigade.* We put the fire out.

The thumping noise is easy to hear when listening through headphones. Is it happening with no input from the guitar, or could it be caused by you brushing against the strings?

@@TheGuitarGeek Thanks for highlighting it. Hopefully they're not all like yours, but maybe it's simply not possible to make a BBD pedal so cheap, without some clock noise bleeding. I won't be buying one until I've had the chance to test it.

Budget Brigade. Thank you for a very honest and in-depth review. They could have drilled a small hole in the case to allow access to the trim pot with a small screwdriver. I see it more of a “set it and forget it” feature in the early stages of dialing in the tone, imho. The low frequency thumping might be due to the feedback turned up too high, but that issue alone has put me off buying one.

Either it's a problem with the the circuit design or it's a wider spread problem. I just got mine and if the feedback is more than half way up then that "thump" from switching the pedal on is enough to push itself in the self oscillation... Almost unusable for big washy sounds unless you switch the pedal on with it all turned low and crank them up after turning it on

#Budget brigade I was REALLY wanting to buy this pedal and I almost just did but I'm hesitating. Thank you. I LOVE TC electronic stuff they're great but I'm not sure how well the negatives sit with me anyone got one and had experience?

BUDGETBRIGADE. Bucket brigade design is prone to produce digital noise or hiss. The amount is also related to the speed buckets are passed on (delay time AND sound quality). In the seventies I accepted that inevitable design flaw to get effects that were impossible with other devices, like flanging or vibrato. Before that we had to use tape echo. So you have 50 years old technology built today.

TC Electronic have some of the best budget effects. I have Skysurfer (Reverb), Echobrain(Delay), and Choka (Tremolo) on my board and for the money - they are a bargain.

La bucket brigade n'est pas une reproduction de la carbon copy, voilà tout. La TC Electronic Bucket Brigade est un excellent delay analogique avec dégradation du signal. Le Switch de la Bucket Brigade est silencieux, pas celui de la Carbon Copy. La Bucket brigade a 73€ (56€ en solde😊) Transparence du signal d'entrée que demander de plus, mieux construite avec le Switch silencieux et le bypass transparent. Je l'ai acheté à 56€ ! La Carbon Copy à 179€, switch bruyant, mauvaise qualité car le bypass dégrade le son et l'activation du switch crée un delay ! Le Rapport/Qualité prix de la Bucket Brigade TC Electronic est le meilleur que je connaisse et ça va durer longtemps. I am not a fan of the footswitches on this line of pedals (I have the Magus Pro). The switch feels like the mechanical components are separate from the electronic components. It's hard to describe, but it feels sort of like a relay bypass switch where the bottom of the mechanical switch travel isn't quite where the electrical switch actually engages/disengages. I'd love to know if this is something that can be easily resolved, but alas at this price point, I fear I'll just have to live with it.

I can hear Henning Pauly reviewing this pedal in my head. He’s saying, C’mon TC Electronic! Put the knob on the outside! I don’t want to open up my pedal to adjust something on the inside. Put the knob on the outside like all the other pedal builders do. What are you thinking? When I put this on my pedalboard I can’t take apart the pedal. I can’t recommend this pedal to my viewers even if it is a budget brigade delay!

Any music gear that's made in China (even if designed in Europe or USA or wherever that may be), that gear MUST BE really good. Do not understimate products from China. 99% of your appliances at home or even music gear has materials Made in China/Taiwan/Japan/SoKor/Indonesia or whatever Asian country that may be. Cheap labor is what Westeners have been exploiting. It's all about money, marketing & Western capitalist profit! But we the consumers know better.

Seems to be you get what you pay for for the Budget Brigade. The modulation speed adjustment inside is dumb (not the end of the world), but the thump needs to go badly.
