Big B playing erupting w his back facing the audience is a direct shootout to EVH in the his early club days when he would do the exact same thing so ppl weren’t able to see how he was playing it & try to ripoff his now legendary & ubiquitous technique! And tho I’ve never seen any mention I always wondered if the red kill switch offered on the more recent EVH Sig Fenders were indeed inspired by Big B! Woo!!
Amen, brother. And even when they did try to copy EVH, there was only ever one! Long live Eddie. And yeah that killswitch definitely seems inspired by B, white guitar red killswitch, whether Eddie knew or not though I guess we'll never know. But I like to think he saw B and thought it was cool. WOO!!
Actually it was Alex's idea not Eddie's 2 do that, but Randy Rhoads n others who were back stage got 2 actually c up close so kinda did not completely work. N that kill switch pretty sure bucket n Eddie stole from funk bassist from back in the day.
The only ripping off was done by EVH. He stole tapping from Steve Hackett and Sweep Picking from Frank Gambale and claimed to have invented it and tried to hide it from other Guitarists to keep them from copying what he was already copying.
The one and only Eddie Van Halen lives through all of us , the free spirited music , with an other worldly tone will live through the ages RIP Eddie we miss you 🎸 evh
Man, how awesome a Buckethead Eddie Collab would have been! Never seen that prosthetic arm tapping before either so thank you for that, fantastic job as always brother, WOO!!
Buckethead was probably trying that prosthetic arm for Herbie! It seemed to work fine, so why haven't we seen Herbie use it? Perhaps he didn't need it, because he can always play the guitar with his nose and teeth! Woo!!
@@JoshuaDomoslai Yes, Herbie is known for his great ability to climb, but he might want a "helping hand" in the kitchen, I mean he is known to make those delicious meatloaves in the oven....or perhaps he just wanted to cook that arm?!!!
Frank Zappa also had a killswitch on his Baby Snakes SG. Possibly other guitars too, he couldn't resist adding switches and rewiring guitars. I think the inspiration for Buckethead's killswitch comes from Randy Rhoads, who would turn the volume all the way down on one pick up, have the other up full, and then flip between them for a similar effect (check the intro to Crazy Train or the unaccompanied solo in the middle of Suicide Solution on the Tribute album). Back in the early 90s, I had a Strat copy that had a switch for the "Xciter circuit" (don't ask), and when the battery ran down, it just cut the sound off. I was well happy, as it meant I could imitate Randy, and so I never replaced the battery. I called it a "cut-off switch", because I wasn't aware of anyone actually having a switch that did this, and so wasn't aware of the term killswitch (this was before Rage Against The Machine's album came out, so I hadn't even heard of Tom Morello at this point).
Hey Natternet, Can you do a post on the comunity tab or something like that to pay tribute for Pebber Brown, Buckethead's guitar teacher who just passed this week ? Sorry to ask for.
Hey friend, he passed away in late February not this week. But I saw there was a gofundme set up this week which is www.gofundme.com/f/pebber-brown-memorial for those that would like to donate and are reading this.
@@RealLucasVieira Yeah that was no doubt a surprise for subscribers for that post to pop up like that. I heard about it through Maximum Bob posting a tribute about him back when he passed in February. Gone way too young 😞
Buckethead just giving tribute to the masters he plays machine gun zeppelin and others too. He is a musical sponge too gets influenced by all kinds of guitarists and musicians. The best guitarist who is still alive and playing today!!
He's doing very well, released several new albums this past month as well as auctioning off one of his used guitars. So staying busy and active. Long live Buckethead. Woo!!
When I was in high school and Eddie Van Halen came on the scene I never heard anything quite like that guitar playing. And now some 40 or more years later Jesus I'm old I still haven't heard anything quite like it yet. People can mimic him and he created that sound the tone the technique and nobody yet has come up to his level of playing. I think we are very lucky to be living in a period of time when some of the best guitar players in the world are have lived or living currently. I've had the fortunate ability to see people from Andreas Segovia, Jeff Beck and other great guitar players but Van Halen left them all in the dirt. He will be truly missed.
Sure, a lot of guitarist could play EVH material in 1996.....he was doing it over 20 years before that.....I dig buckethead and think he's awesomely innovative, but when EVH was mesmerizing everybody he played for, buckethead was just shotglass head blowing his cazoo!
And if I see another short about how to do pinch harmonics from Larry who plays in “tormented soul blood” bar band that plays covers for 100$ a night I’m throwing my phone
Eddy had a killswitch though that's right but he didn't use it like buckethead. Buckethead can play entire songs using that switch. I don't know any other guitarist that's so good at it.
Nobody said Eddie used the Killswitch like Buckethead, it was just showing that they both used it. Buckethead is the master of the killswitch for sure, way beyond what anyone else has done. Woo!!
EVH was always whining about people stealing from him and here he has a kill switch on his Wolfgang USA. Disconnecting the pickup toggle is not the same thing
If you play and owned say a Gibson for example all you do is turn your rythym pickup volume off and flick back and forth from treble to rythym, that's how most did it back in the day.
Great video. Love BH….We heard that from many people… and your point is??? BH amazing talent!! What is your hook? A triple Axel while playing eruption…landing it on ice! , well there you go. Your training is complete😉.
In the history 101 rated Eddie as 13 of the greatest guitarest of all time. I say that's bullshit. Most people would still today put Jimmy as number 1 but I would say Eddie is number 1. I believe nobody and I mean nobody has been more creative and innovative for not only the playing of the guitar but also the equivalent used. If Jimmy was alive today I would think he would would have a hard time playing at the level of emotion and technique of Eddie. I grew up listening to Eddie's music and was able to see him live and he was amazing. Even his aditude on stage was of a cool rock star. Not to mention off stage people that knew him said he was the kindest people you ever could meet. Long live the soul of Eddie. Nobody that I have never met has hit me so hard when he pass. I'll say it again in my eyes Eddie was the best. My 2 cents 🤘
8 yr old kids play Eruption on many RU-vid videos, but NOBODY had Eddie's touch, style, technique, tone or soul any more than Randy, Jimi, Zappa, Chuck or the many, many other great guitarists who paved the way and set the bar.
im sure bucket head would agree all vids of guys doing other guys stuff reminds of a great art quote..i can do that and better.....reply BUT YOU DID,NT
Tosin Abasi would blow SRV out of the water. He was the greatest for his time, theres a million that are miles better now. Keep holding onto that boomer mentality though
@@absoluteunit8628 no facts man boomer I'm not that old lol. So J page and EVH and Deny Laine were my favorite until I watched SRV in action and he was Incredible like bonnamosa with feel. So I'm pretty sure when guys like Clapton and surfing with the alien guy refuse to follow SRV on stage that holds a bit of weight wouldn't you agree Satchmo I belive his handle is. Once your on that level it becomes how you play as opposed to being able to play wouldn't you agree.
PS. This dude couldn't have even been Eds guitar tech, maybe though????🤔 Man y'all are talking about an inovative legend.... Show some respect. Do you even know what the word means. RESPECT..... LOOK IT UP. R.I.P ED ,I LOVE YOU AN MISS YOU.
I see you got triggered there, you know Eddie was still alive when Bucket played this and he done it as a fan?! Eddie wouldve loved it and wouldve thought it was a hoot...and come on, look at eddies white guitar with red killswitch, he was a fan Jeffery, a fan! Woo!!
Both your comments sound childish, you seem triggered, not sure why you care so much. Both are/were/always will be great. Appreciate talent, don't knock it. Woo!!
what's funny is you see him screw it up the first time...and then the second time he stands back there and plays it correctly as if he went home and had to sit down and re-learn the right way.... either way without eddie, there is no buckethead and a thousand other players as well.. lots of great players out there... but to even think that stuff up in the first place is friggin genius.. and then have everyone pick the techniques up and run with it is the ultimate testament...
@@bach5150 Buckethead is amazing. And EVH isn't my #1 all time favorite either. But I have been playing and studying guitar for over 25 years. Edward Van Halen had a sense of rhythm and timing and a swing that I haven't heard anyone else on this planet be able to match it and do it the way he did it. It just had a razor sharp on point swing to it. And it was in everything he played. The biggest and most obvious example of this is the intro to "I'm the one". I'm not saying anyone else is any less of a guitar player. But nobody could swing like EVH did. Nobody. It's never been matched. Often imitated. Never duplicated. I've heard those guitar parts played thousands of ways by thousands of players. But just nobody could do it like EVH. Nobody can nail his timing and swing the way he did.
