A legend power saw builder and close friend is takin' time to show me the ropes from the ground up on chainsaw porting. today we break out the degree wheel
Hey buckin im only 13 but I've learned a lot from u I show my dad and grandfather a couple techniques u show when splitting firewood or cutting big trees keep up the great work
I know this is an older video , but I gotta say , I now know with confidence how to use the degree wheel to measure the "timing" off a two stroke engine. V-8 4 stroke engines I know , I've built Drag Cars , but couldn't for the life of me understand how you check the timing on an engine with no doggone camshaft.....LOL. Port Timing !!! It's so simple !! Thank You Buckin and Mr. Donny Walker !!!!
A few ways to skin this cat but a tip for first timers. Counting back from 180 sometimes cause a mistake doing the math. A simple way to read the wheel is to hold a feeler gauge in the port so the piston is just resting on it, then start turning the crank while watching the degree wheel and just count up the degrees as you turn the wheel until it comes back and stops on the feeler gauge. And measure the port at least twice or more so you are certain you have the number right because it's cheap to remove metal but costly to put it back if you make a mistake.
I've over ported my banshee not that fun to ride any more very peaky and narrow power band i bet these smaller motors are even more sensitive to getting it to big, love these videos tho wealth of information
The only question I have is. Why not check the squish on the cylinder and piston first. If squish was to big you would be lowering the cylinder to the base which would bring port timing more even between intake and exhaust. Am I on the right line of thinking here?
Good to see that your exploring the technical and actual Machacic’s of the engine and to get the engine working better! Thanks much for bringing us along
I am so glad you guys take the time to make these videos just want to say thanks ,ive been tinkering with 2 strokes since I was 10 and donney made port timing so easy to understand im working on a 850 too cant wait to see the results when its back together
My family has an event every year called Heritage days, it’s an event that our family and friends show off antique machinery and things. This one time I overheard a conversation between a grandpa and grandson, grandpa was explaining how a wood burning cookstove works. The little boy asks grandpa “were microwaves wood fired to grandpa?” 😂😂😂
Careful- Bill Gates is genetically engineering meat in factories that is bio-engineered from animals but - animals are no longer required….yuck! Combine that with his meal worm protein shakes…but he is a quality beef conisour along with warren battey ! Haha yes misspellings is on purpose 😂
@@cookscatapults Hahaha ya I was a BMXer back when it was new in the 70's lol probably should change the name. Came up with it when youtube first started most people think I'm some kid .... funny cuz my kids are adult now so maybe it's time for a change
Buckin', this video might be in my opinion, one of the most informative you've made yet. Too bad the camera stopped, hopefully we didn't miss much. Donny's given me food for thought as well as The IronHorse! Thanks Donny and Uncle Harv for you knowledge you've shared! Can't wait for the next installment, sooo excited to learn this. Buckin' thanks for helping us add another skill to our tool bag! This too shall pass, one day at a time.
WTH. Went from porting a chainsaw to picking up some blocks 19:00 . I was looking forward to watching and learning the process. Hoping that there's more to come.
It's refreshing to see such a good humored, genuine, positive person. I admire it tremendously, sir. The very best of luck to you in all you do. Good, good man!
Buckin', I may be looking at this wrong but because you are counting backwards the extra 5 degrees should be subtracted and you guys were adding it. Should be 126* and 145* for the exhaust port. @ 9:19 mark. Love the contact brother! Keep it up. You truly are a bright spot in this world. Thank you for being a great example of positivity and leading your life with your heart.
Crazy that back to 60 and 70 that McCulloch was that far ahead! I would be willing to bet that there were very few that all ready had there exhaust ports set to 155 back then! Just shows how incredible these saws really are! Crazy! Love ya Brother its so incredibly amazing how this one’s little channel has become something so big positive and beautiful! Keep it up Buckin more now then ever we need more channel’s like this. That spreads love, positive, and happiness! LOVE WINS!!!
Awesome video buckn great to see you two at it again that things going to run great! I must say I am a willy nilly bloke when it came to porting my own saw I did some very out if the box stuff but man did a wake my saw up and it pulls like a train! I guess I got lucky and got everything perfect . Keep well to you buckn and family and the buckn army 🌲
I’ve been listening to ya Billy for a couple years brother, just seen I wasn’t subscribed. We got her now!!! Sending good vibes from West Virginia. WE ARE CHANGING THE WORLD!!
Really can't watch your chan through the summer every time I do I am out with my saws and my gear as I do excavating work for income but me and the boy are starting a tree trimming business because I am a seasonal cutter I think it's time to do what I love and that is cutting trees and slinging chips I've learned so much in the past few yrs you and iron horse are some of the coolest oltimers I have ever watched luv it man just luv it keep the great content coming and you know LUV really does win
Awesome brother. Love the knowledge that you and Donny are bringing and sharing with us all. That live edge counter top is so cool and such a great keepsake of hard work. Nice pitbike also love it all Buckin thank you. 🌲❤🌲✊
Got er Tightened Down Billy, but the Piston won't move for some reason! LOL Great Super Secret Info Here Guys!!! Thank You for sharing for us DIY'ers!!! Did this on a Couple Skidoo Rotax Engines, with Rotary Valve...
Very cool stuff, I put a degree wheel on a 10-10 auto I have apart, had 120deg of intake timing, I’d have to take a good 3/8” off the bottom of the skirt to get to 155deg, seems like a lot of material to have to remove
G'day Buckin' and Donny from Australia, so enjoyable to watch you work. Yes we suffer on postage from the Nth American continent, and yes Don, import tax is a killer!! We love the Canadian's down here in Australia - The best part of America - Canada! lol.
I’ve also notice that we got down under versions off the sane saw that the states have like for example 797 here have half wrap handle and over there full wrap I wonder if them at was done to save weight
A lot of good info on the saws you guy s doing and the counter tops Gorgeous nice job on the kitchen I know white cabinet and back splash are a thing now now for me and just me I like to see the wood grain I like the Color of wood my self my dad was a cabinet maker and had his Owen shop . You and me and Harvey of Ironhorse Or about the same age
I like gettin an exposure to this tech stuff. don't know if I will ever get an opportunity to apply it to my saws, but you never know. kinda following what this man is doing with Buckin's saw
Get you a 90deg mini grinder for those transfers and go slow. I use an old ring on top of the piston to determine position from TDC. Lay it out paying attention to port shape and transfer angle. Donny won't steer you wrong on this Macs by the looks of things!
