Buckle Down, Winsocki - Stereo Extended Version - Best Foot Forward 1943 - Tommy Dix

Stereo premiere - "Buckle Down, Winsocki" was the big hit from "Best Foot Forward", which transferred from Broadway with much of the original cast intact. A great song by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, who also did the beautiful vocal arrangement. You would think Tommy Dix had a bright film career ahead, but he made only one other film, instead becoming a nightclub singer and finally working in his Dad's lumber business. I think he's still alive - anyone have contact info?

One time when I was driving my elderly mom (who had dementia) to a doctor's appointment and I reminded her to buckle up, she started singing this song! Remembering it still makes me smile. She was a HUGE fan of movie musicals and theater.

Yup, I'm here after showing my young student the old Buckle Up for Safety commercial on RU-vid, and reading several comments that it came from this song. All my life I'd never known that, so, here i am! What I like to call "One of those You-live-long-enough moments." Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think the reason some people may have thought he was dubbed is because he used his "squeaky" voice in "Three Men On A Date", which was probably to save his true singing voice as a surprise for "Buckle Down, Winsocki".

"If you shout hooray for the Pennsylvania Dutchmen ..." is the verse to "Buckle Down, Winsocki". They aren't two different songs, but all part of the same song. The film doesn't go into the background information that the original play did. There are lines in the original play that state that the football team is the Winsocki Pennsylvania Dutchmen.

One thing I see and wish to mention.......the young ladies in the 1940s (Or is it just in the movies?) dress very well. Today, girls just wear ripped up jeans and tee shirts, or sweats, scubs, whatever. These girls, sure it is a special occassion, but throughout the film, are dressed very nice. Seem most guys just want to see naked women, but I think a well dressed....not gaudy, etc......young lady looks pretty damn good. But that is just me. Old school, I guess.

Nope, it's me too. I've never seen a woman totally naked that looked sexier than if she was wearing something (and I've seen plenty of them). My imagination is more erotic than the real thing.
