When I visited the Davis Gym at Bucknell, it's was hard not to notice the huge banner of a Bucknell player shooting over a Kansas Jayhawk. By far the highlight of Bucknell basketball history.
This was one of the greatest KU losses of all, the fans were getting to be too big for their own britches. I was sitting in a bar filled with Beaker fans and it was tremendous to watch them throw their beer and start crying like little girls.
I swear on my life, my wife and kids, my mom and dad and everyone else that I picked Bucknell to beat Kansas. I was watching the Patriot League title game that year and they said Holy Cross was a huge favorite and Bucknell beat them and they looked great with all the right pieces to pull an upset so I picked them to win and they sure enough did while all my friends watching with me that day had Kansas in the final four LOL
Simien had an excellent look but just missed it. McNaughton was a great reason for Bucknell's success. Game Winner and if I recall he finished his career ranked in top the 5 all time in scoring in the Patriot League. What a bad way to end a career for Wayne Simien.
It seems like every 4 v 13 or 5 v 12 contest had that national championship atmosphere at times. You don't see a lot of unpredictability like this in the NBA playoffs.
Wow. Did you think that back in 2008 that someone would comment on your comment for the first time 15 years later?! Im watching the Bucknell/Duke game tonight on 11/17/2023 and they mentioned this game & it brought me here. I'm pretty your life and you have changed so much since then. I was 37 now I'm 52 wow
KU is a perrenial tourney choke team. Facts are facts, the only reason they won the 2008 championship is because they finally figured out what everyone else already knew, that Memphis could not play fundamental basketball I.E. hitting free throws, otherwise Memphis would have blown them out. Do some homework before you post guys.
trich424, do you think maybe it had something to do with Memphis having the worst Free Throw percentage in the country in 08? Maybe you forgot about that.......
@Jayhawks147 theyre the only team that gets shit for losing early because they have done it a lot. kansas gets upset early more than any other team. how can you not understand that?
@Jayhawks147 I HATE how people say Bradley was a bad team, they really weren't they won their next game and made it to the sweet 16 so i don't wanna hear anything
Any Missouri fan that has commented on this or who bought a Bucknell shirt after this game, I only have one thing to say: Tyus Edney. Just wondering, how many Final Fours has your program been to? Hell, your team hasnt even won a Big 12 regular season league title so it safe to say that all your insults are fueled by banner envy.
@hollabackitsboi: Ummm during the 06-07 season KU beat Florida head to head in a tournament in Vegas during Thankgiving weekend. Needless to say if KU had beaten UCLA in the '07 Elite Eight, KU woulda been a tough match up for your boys.
i like how u bring up Helms doesnt count, but yet the Helms Foundation ended in 1982. Heck UCLA won 9 Helms Trophies and UNC 1 and IU 3. So they must count as National Championships it UCLA has almost all from the Helm ls system
@Jayhawks147 Haha. Sorry dude, at Florida, we only count championships. Counting Final Fours is a consolation prize. In what really counts, championships, we're behind you by one, which we hope to rectify. Who cares about all-time wins? That's a record of how long you've been playing and not how good you are. Western Kentucky is ahead of Louisville, Villanova, Georgetown, Michigan State, UConn, Ohio State, etc. in all-time wins. What does that mean?
@vaibanez17 yeah dude my brother had bucknell winning that game too! well, we're from pa and we usually pick the patriot league team to win so um yeah haha. i had bucknell beating uconn this year but it wasn't meant to be.. and speaking of this game i think it was such a great one and great upset because bucknell is a small, liberal arts academic college, from a league that is somewhat new to athletic scholarships.
@hollabackitsboi: Oh yea, Florida was #1 at that time too. A lot easier to sell recruits to come to Gaineville than Lawrence, Kansas. But since the '06-'07 title teams, what have you done? You haven't even won a single NCAA tourney game.
UH Ku has won 9 STRAIGHT CONF. TITLES that hasn't been done since John Woodens UCLA teams...Please Ku has 14 Final fours to Florida 4. KU has more final fours than Luisville, Indiana, Uk. More Nat. Titles than Louisville and Duke..
@OldSkool128 That '08 KU team was loaded. Not their problem Memphis couldn't hit free throws. Memphis didn't play anybody that year except for Tennessee and guess what? Memphis lost that game. You must be an MU fan huh?
@Jayhawks147 LMAO. Championships don't mean everything?! ROFL!!!! What a sign of Kansas homerism! So you're saying that WINNING doesn't mean everything? HA! Deal with it! Florida is a better school academically AND athletically than Kansas. Athletically the only sport you even MATTER in is basketball, and we're getting close to you on that, too! Also, lol at saying "if you didn't win back-to-back..." What if YOU didn't win in 2008? What if D-Rose had sunk his FTs? We DOMINATED our opponents.
@sakau2007 lol a program with 5 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AND 14 FINAL FOURS, AND 55 CONF. TITLES( MKOST EVER BY A D1 BBALL SCHOOL) MOST WINNJNG SEASONS IN NCAA AT 96. YEP BUT SERIOUSLY THERE A POWERHOUSE!!!
@Jayhawks147 And All-Americans? You have WAY more yet you don't have WAY more championships. Better players over decades = only one more championship than us? Congrats, haha. Let's look at RECENT history, not some ancient, James Naismith, Phog Allen history, lmao. In the past twenty years, Kansas has been to 5 Final Fours and won one championship. In the same time period Florida has been to 4 Final Fours and won TWO championships. Florida = better program. Deal with it.
@Jayhawks147 Kansas won in OT due to Memphis's lack of free throw skill. In every other phase of the game they outplayed you. Us? Neither UCLA nor Ohio State got within 10 points of us. I also don't need to tell you how stupid it is to discount the work of our best coach. Haha YOUR program is a joke, too, none of your coaches, even old "Phog", won more than two titles! Couldn't defend your title in 1989 because of probation, a dirty program. Also, Hook 'Em Horns! Hahaha.
@Jayhawks147 Naw, the Jayhawks are still an incredibly overrated basketball program. 3 national titles? Whoopee. I go to Florida, and we're not even a "basketball school" but we only trail you in titles by 1. Kansas just choke and choke and choke and choke. Pretty amazing, really.
1 game elimination format dude. Its incredibly hard. KU has 2nd most wins alltime, always a National Title contender. Been a 1,2,3seed every Tourney since 2000.
