In the early years of nation building, we were in fact being forced/cornered to be hardworking by the govt under LKY, which on hindsight was a blessing in disguise that help the nation propelled into a first world country today. With this hardworking attitude, I m optimistic that we can overcome any adversities going forward.

A young nation's future depends mainly on quality of its citizenry and its government policy , but with plenty of money by its side, it does help to propel its upward and forward trajectory quicker and faster than others. Undoubtedly it causes no harm at all to have the money$$ in shaping a brighter future for Singapore. 🤓

The newly 2024 budget is no enough to provide a safety net for the local peoples... Go to the ground to feel the inflation pressure. Even the $500/ CDC is not enough to sustain for a month for a family of 5

Property prices keep going up because the government keeps building infrastructure (e g. MRT). And salaries have to be high.. stressful

$600 CDC vouchers for a family for year? That's only $1.64 per day for a family 😂😢😅

I am sure the government can do the maths for a $500/ CDC over 30 days and that is $16.666 for a family Do anyone think is really help for a family of 5 with 3 kids going to school

Care to share how you spent your years getting to 65yo? I have several friends in their 60s who did much better. I knew of a few people who chose not to study and work in sg. They chose to do business and put all their money overseas and lost everything during covid and ended up with no cpf. That's not sg govt fault. Our system works for the majority who chose to work hard in sg. Thus one should reflect on our life choices and accept consequences with those choices. I'm glad I listened to my mom. 😅

Think you should ask some of them here on my side ....before i share my story....is there anything wrong if i can draw out 20k and with 70k still manage by cpf? We talk abt now ...not future ..

No stone is left unturned in future skill training. The government is investing a course to impart skill in toilet cleaning.

@denisechan5992 The trade is dying. Who's going to climb up your scaffoldings at the construction site? Who's going to go to the dockyards and take up a blowtourch? Are Singaporeans willing to do these jobs? You may pay them twice the salary, they will still say no. Because there are other job opportunities which they consider more attractive. So the world is going through social changes. If you are an Indonesian or a Filipino or an Indian or a Bangladeshi, you have no choice. So just be grateful that your sisters and cousins and so on do not have to work as maids. LKY

Hello foreigners for construction/ hdb rubbish cleaners agree we needs them ...but dont you see coffeeshop cleans and other light jobs many being grab away from our old folks??? Blind guy ...is lucky you dont have relatives or siblings having old folks job i believe ..

No because money cannot buy time. After 5 decades where is the promised Swiss Standard of Living? Skills training is useless and a waste of time and money because there will always be a "cheaper" (no CPF) foreign workers. It is nonsense to comment of the 2024 Budget because Singaporeans do not know the whole truth because of the lack of openness and transparency of The Government. Singapore needs REGIME CHANGE.

@franciscody9622 Fun Fact - Switzerland - Land of Renters. Average age of first time home buyers is about 48 years old. Only 36% of Swiss own their own homes. Average price for a studio apartment is 1.5 million. Min 20% down payment ( plus 4% transfer fees). Most Swiss rely on perpetual refinancing to afford their homes.

Well, if you can get Singaporeans want to build building, pave road, clear rubbish, than may be we can stop importing foreign workers. Skill upgrading is important not only for work but also for life. Judging from what you said, you might not have the skill and money and not willing to upgrade yourself.

@Tungku66 Why wasting your time trying to wake deep sleeper? There is a common expression in the mandrin world [不進則退】。There is no free lunch in this world, not even countries with plentiful of resources that practices welfare handouts. In the long run, they will feel the pinch and have to start looking for other avenues to sustain this welfare handouts let alone Singapore where natural resources does not exist. So, just let people like him continue their dream.

Bring in foreigners for tough work like construction or hdb cleaners nobody dares to make noise okay ...but ppl coming in for coffeeshop cleaners or dishes collectors already taken away many old folks jobs ...why ? Cos government themselves did that .....many sectors FNB using cheap labours ...

@@Humorousguy64 Working as a cleaner in a coffeeshop is a tough job. You probably have to be on your feet for 12 hours or sometimes more. Many old folks have given up. You have to experience working as a coffeeshop cleaner to understand.
