Putting the rights of individuals, as well as poorly thought-out human rights, over the rights of the majority of society to enjoy clean and safe living in their own country is the reason why so many western countries have such big problems in society. Criminals forego many of the rights that they would enjoy as a law-abiding individual the moment they commit a crime. So corporal punishment and even the death penalty in more severe crimes should no longer be thought of as an infringement of the criminal's human rights. They gave up those rights when they chose to break the laws. Draconian laws make it safe for everyone who abides by them because would-be criminals know what punishment awaits them should they choose to proceed with their unlawful actions. It's not that we choose draconian laws, but rather we choose the safety and freedom of the majority. If draconian laws are the only proven and effective way to achieve that, then so be it. We don't intend to break the laws anyway, so we don't need to fear the laws being draconian.
There is no trade off. Singapore is a country that can guarantee the freedom of all its citizens. Laws are not draconian. They are enforced without fear or favour.
As a Singaporean living and had ran several companies in China for the last 16 years, particularly in Guangdong, I can conclude that all these Mega Cities are doomed amid the deteriorating China economic, social and geopolitical environment.
As a female, I usually feel safe when I come back late at nite alone. Now, living overseas, I don't come out at nite when is dark Even in the day, I am very aware who is around me. Singapore definitely has gone the right way Vandalism, thieving and destructions of properties that doesn't belong to you is wrong. You know is wrong, so you have to pay the price for it. No double standards.
If you know Singapore’s history , she was once part of the new federation of Malaysia in 1963 but she was expelled by Malaysia in 1965 and left on her own device to survive. Back then, no country came to her help to build her up, except Israel.
Wat works for e world may not work for us. In fact this safety is critical 2 our survial. Tourist & investing company wont come if we r not a save place
Michael Fay did not vandalised one or two public signages but hundred of such items. This point is sorely missed out by the major news media! Minor vandalism is met with small fine only. The public cameras are not meant for surveillance but due to aging population where fewer young people are available for the police force. Singapore thrives on pragmatism and not brutalism of the laws.
See what happened to the delegates of Olympics in Paris. The humanistic way is not to commit crimes as they benefit us but destroy others. Look as US, France etc., lenient to criminals but cruel to the victims, also encourage criminals to repeat crimes. They go to prison and enjoy free food and shelter. I am a citizen of Singapore and happily living here because all the strict laws protect me and my fellow Singaporeans. Say what you want, you are not a Singaporean. If I became a victim, you will never be helping me and keep on criticizing my country.
If you are a Singapore citizen or a foreigner who has lived in Singapore for some time and has experienced the eye-popping difference of what it is like to live here compared to in the US or Europe, you will probably agree that good men must be willing to take tough measures to do what is necessary and sometimes ugly things to keep law-abiding people safe. Only would-be criminals and bad people take issues with tough laws and severe penalties. Good people have no problem at all with strict laws and harsh punishments. Because strict laws and harsh penalties do not affect good people. An American Talk Show host made a video to talk about Singapore's stance on undesirable social behaviour and he explained very succinctly why Singapore is Singapore and Philadelphia is Philadelphia. Enjoy this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iECjw8dOnbQ.html
European cities have much heavier police prescence. In Singapore, u hardly see police around. The person doing clickbait videos again for views. No journalistic integrity.
You hardly see police around in Singapore coz of its low crime rate and CCTV are installed in most public area. I can't speak for the safety concerns in Europe and USA but if you commented that much heavier police presence in European cities so crime rate could be pretty high there. This video creator is speaking the truth and not clickbait.
My kid has an idea of study in UK for his degree but I quite opposite about this. Main factor is about safety, I don't feels safe in EU countries and it likely will be worse in the future. I feels safe in SG and even my kid back home at 11 pm at night I still relax since this is Singapore...our education system also great. Totally my safe zone. Went EU and get robbed in a subway is terrible experience... especially if you're Asian is easy target for them. EU is not civilian place like we all use to think anymore. They'll be left behind soon.
Strict as the laws may sound. Enforcement is more measured. You hardly see police depolyed to police small crimes like littering. Laws are there as deterrent.
Yes, HK island was ceded to the UK IN PERPETUITY but it was still returned to China. So yes, unfair terms in contracts ought to be scrapped, no matter if they were sealed in legal terms.
Investment in defence is always calculated to derive longterm dividends. Whilst at the same time, it is to guard and protect current assets painstakingly built up over decades. To those who think it is a waste of taxpayers' money, check yourself in at IMH please. That's your rightful place.
It’s a Police State where Citizens’ right to privacy from the authorities is considered negotiable at Best or a Privilege at it’s Worst. Imagine a country where Citizens whom are born and bred in their OWN homeland has to APPLY and PAY exorbitantly for a certificate of ENTITLEMENT to simply have the “privilege” to be ENTITLED to own a Car ..🤦🏼🤦🏼
[ highly visible police presence ] - With this sentence, I know you had not set foot on Singapore before. I am a native of Singapore and my family had been here for more than 100 years starting from my great grand. I am middle age and never stay one day outside of Singapore. You are giving wrong information.
Re. Michael Faye case: If it was his own personal property, he could vandalise any way he wanted; if not, he had to obtain property owner's permission to do so. He, not only vandalised multiple public properties, he even damaged several cars that were found along a roadside carpark!
@@henrikleong1234 Those help to solve crime. Doubt there are sufficient manpower to stare at all visual captured on cameras and CCTVs all around the island. Video recording at respective spot will be retrieved and watched when there is crime or accident. And probably during formal/official events
the profits are so huge that if certain category of people would not get capital punishment for trafficking, the cartels would get hundreds of them to do it, it is even worse for that group of people.

Thai people want ThaiCanal can save the world from global warming. Not land bridge it never work because of lift on and lift off cost and time much higher
Not the roads tho, lack of enforcement, no one (pedestrians, cyclists,PMA, PMD, trucks, motorbikes, cars..) really cares about the traffic laws..so be careful.
