With the amount of chassis flex causing all that body cracking i am amazed you have no chassis cracking as we replaced chassis,s under warranty back in the day for cracking (even flew one in from Japan when Patrick's stevedores strike was on ) even did a lot of the warranty upgrades to rear door aperture reinforcing plate campaigns

Yeah wow. Was that the early series? this was a 96 model . the panard and steering box had started to fail but aside from that all was good.

I found to get max power out of my impact gun I needed to use my 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) hose. With the 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) there was too much restriction in the line. Air flows like water and even electricity. The smaller the hose, or wire, the more pressure or voltage drop there is. Your compressor might be set on 90 psi, but maybe you only get 70 at the gun. This only increases as flow goes up (current can be thought of as a flow of electrons). Just like you wouldn't put your compressor on the same small extension cord you might use for your radio, if you put your impact gun on a small air hose there will be a lot of pressure drop when the air is flowing. I couldn't really see the hose in the video, but consider sizing up to get the full potential from your impact gun. I love you videos and your educational approach.

Bang on. I'm pretty sure there's a few restrictions. I personally don't use the air rattle gun very much so don't bother. Connor brought his gun that day.

Cracked panels, spot welds coming away, standard components needing to be replaced with upgrades and your Nephew, the motor mechanic used to drive Toyota and now has a Nissan Patrol. Sort of says it all really.

looks like a good build young felah,l made a big mistake with my build by putting Elockers front and rear,elockers as you know have a delay locking in when you change direction of travel. This can be unnerving specially if you are on a challenging track and you have to reverse.
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD 4 года назад
I've never had an issue with the Elockers. I have twin in the bundera.

Why do you think those cracks appear? Wrong tire pressures maybe? or a hard life?
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD 4 года назад
simply a heavy vehicle doing a lot of flex and rough roads for many years. It only happens to a few 80s it's not common.

Hey Matt, whats your favorite, the 80 or the 105. have a mint ft 80, but looking at a petty for hard weekend warrior duty. cheers!
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD 4 года назад
Love them both. The 105 is awesome because of the turbo but you can do that with the 80. If i was building a weekend truck I'd go 80 because it's slightly smaller and parts are cheap.

Hi mate can you tell me a 1999 105 series petrol, can these engines deal with LPG?? Possible issues to look for? Apparently service history is good with 350k on clock. I'm looking at it Friday. Cheers
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD 4 года назад
Yes they can but LPG is dieing a fast death and not worth installing.

Interesting vid matt. Why do you think the 80 has so much metal fatigue and cracking evident? Is it a result of a really hard life? I would love to hear your thoughts

@@MadMatt4WD interesting hey? It's a testament to how good the landcruiser really is. Time and again I see landcruiser mechanicals and components outlasting the bodies and chassis. Metal fatigue or corrosion kills them long before they are worn out mechanically. I reckon a landcruiser could last fifty years with decent maintenance, even if used every day.
@MadMatt4WD
@MadMatt4WD 4 года назад
The rumour I’ve heard from reasonably reliable sources is it the 80 series was designed for 1,000,000 km before its first major rebuild. I’m not sure what that actually means because not many do 1,000,000 km
@thewhiteoxoverland
@thewhiteoxoverland 4 года назад
@@MadMatt4WD I remember reading somewhere that an engineer from toyota said the original design brief was to build a vehicle that could last 500000km in third world conditions. I think they came pretty close to achieving that actually.
@thewhiteoxoverland
@thewhiteoxoverland 4 года назад
Closer than anyone else at least. The engines and transmissions are definitely capable of 500000km plus(I know because mine has) without overhaul so as long as the body doesn't fall apart from fatigue and corrosion I guess it's possible. But you're right. Very few get to that milestone. Having said that, they're still among the most capable and durable vehicles on the planet
