Join me on a budget-friendly bikepacking adventure in northern Thailand where I'll show you how to travel light and cheap. In this video, I'll take you through my $20 setup, featuring a basic bike rack and an old backpack. I also take you through my typical gear list for an overnight or long weekend bikepacking trip.
Watch as I explore new places in the heart of Isaan, Thailand, while keeping my accommodation under $20 a night and daily expenses, including food, also under $20. A perfect combination for anyone looking to explore the great outdoors without breaking the bank.
Come along and see how fun and exciting bikepacking can be!

Excellent video as always, riding in Thailand can be tough but it can also be super easy, barely an inconvenience depending on the circumstances!!!

Always fun heading off for a few nights and seeing what curveballs come your way. That first hotel I'm sure would be a near a couple of hundred quid here in blighty. Good watch as always and a very welcome counterbalance to all those videos with with Tailfin racks, specialist bags etc. that require a second mortgage to acquire. Love the message - keep it simple and enjoy riding your bike! 🙂

It is so well observed about all the videos reviewing expensive kit. I have some decent kit myself but I think it can be very off putting to encourage new people into our sport. I hope you get over here one day to enjoy first hand the great cycling, wonderful hospitality and crazy low prices. Take care .Jay

Thanks for the update Jay, hard to imagine getting any accommodation under $100 in Canada. But that's just the way it is. Looking forward to the next video. Bob...

Always look forward to your videos Jay. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to put this one up on your channel. Hope that heat rash has well and truly healed up. If you're ever interested in doing a couple of great temple rides not far from Prasat let me know please. It would be a pleasure to spend a day or so doing a ride or two with you and a couple of mates.

Thanks for the kind words and it would be great to meet up for a ride at some point. Heat rash is good now btw! Jay

Hey Jay, it’s been a while! Welcome back to RU-vid-I really enjoyed watching your fantastic video. Thailand seems like such a peaceful place to live. And despite the trainer mishap and heat rash, well done, mate!

@@dionspot Thanks very much. You are absolutely correct in your observations that Thailand is a peaceful place to live. I love it! Trainers to the cobblers tomorrow and will only cost a few dollars/pounds 🙂

I'm not sure why I missed this one, but I'm glad I found it. I do miss touring, but I'm justified not up to it lately. However, an overnighter might be the cards. I still use the Mini-Morph. More reliable, I think, than the CO2 cartridge, but I need to find a better way to carry it on my trike. Nice sharing, except for the heat issue. Whoa, not good.😮

@@johncomrie2303 I made it close to there on my first bike packing trip in Thailand. I cycled from my home here in Korat to Ubon and then north by the Mekong through Nakhon Phanom (very near you) and Bueng Kan before getting to Nong Khai. A great trip and some awesome memories. Love it up there 👍👍👍

Too hot for one of those coffee palaces I see in your other videos?
@Biking360
@Biking360 2 месяца назад
Lol :) Unfortunately, there wasn't a single coffee shop en route for the whole two days and 165 km! Hardly a shop either!

Yeah, been stinking hot lately. This time of year i cut right down on the red dirt road rides unfortunately, and do much more boring tarmac. Without fenders it can get yucky real quick. How you like those Moloko bars? Sent you an email ref that B17.

Having the rack on the back helped a lot with the mud but otherwise, I would have been covered! Love the Moloko bars and find them super comfortable. Sent you a reply to the email re the B17. Take care. Jay

Absolutely. I paid 920bht as a walk in. On Agoda it was 1090bht so I got a great deal on an already good price.

Sir, your ’just the bare essentials’ set-up is music to my ears, the simpler the better. Then you just start pedaling! However, that muddy section at the start of your ride? 😬 But seriously, every aspect of a bikepacking tour, even though it might not feel like it at the time, is something to be grateful for. In fact, I would have ridden through quicksand if I knew that swimming pool was waiting for me to jump into it at the end of the day. 😏

It ended up being a lot more challenging than I imagined but those are often the rides that stick in our minds for years! I hope this video in some small way encourages even one person to give bikepacking a go without fretting about having to spend a lot of money in order to do so. Take care. Jay
