Mora knives are like the first girl you fall in love in high-school and you finally get married with when you get old! It's both the 1st knife when you get started and after spending a ton of money and time on other fancier knives, you end up on the first Mora knife you had chosen when all started!!

Thank you for your videos Rob. When all the fires stop and it safe to hike I will be camping in the Sequoia forest this winter with a mora.

I've used tons of Mora's over the years good reliable knives, I have a husqvarna heavy duty knife that's lived permanently in my bag for as long as I can remember great knife tuff as old boot's I paid £3 for it and it's an absolutely great knife. Enjoyed your video as always thanks for taking the time to do them. 👍😁🇬🇧

The two ltr Pop bottle trick is one we used in Commando forces on extended recce's, we used to give them a quick spray with matt black for tactical reasons, but they really are a good cheap way to carry extra water 💧💧💧 recycle responsibly, 🥴or ditch them in your mate's bergan.

Another treat of a video - jeez it's been a soggy old summer here hasn't it? but rather that than the crazy high temperatures in America and Canada. Mora make such good knives, pretty much the only reason to buy an expensive alternative is aesthetics - which is an absolutely valid reason...that I always use. Funnily enough the only time I'm likely to be outdoors without (way too much) kit is when I'm walking the dogs....and my dog bag, which lives in the car (leads, poop bags, water etc) contains a stainless mora and a wee silky...so I guess they are my survival tools and I'm more than happy with them. Axes are a whole other hornets nest - they vary in ability and quality so much, often you're better off buying an old used axe and customising it to your own needs - 90% of new seem to be unknown steel Chinese crap (China make some great things, but not axes). Even with good brands they invariably need sharpening / re-profiling and the handles aren't ergonomic enough. The amount of Moras I ruined learning to sharpen before experience and RU-vid came along 🤣😂

Can't go wrong with a Mora, and the Robust definitely is! When I started out with bushcraft again, I'd stopped for ~20 years when the kids were small, I bought a surplus Swiss Army Hatchet at the good will (Brockenstube) store (25CHF, ~20€). It is a bit short & heavy and needed a lot of TLC, but it is a good splitter!

I was out this weekend and conditions were much the same, not raining but very humid and hot, low pressure - (I'm not that far away from you in the Midlands) I also used a raised fire bed to keep it off the ground, kinda of like a star fire but with a raised coalbed. I also used a good old mora to make my splits. My budget axe is a fikars axe, they're synthetic which isn't the best but makes it lighter for carrying in and out. Bending the knees on your axe swing is good to teach people as it reduces overstrike and reduces the chance of a deflection 👍

@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman 3 года назад
Kansbol isn't great for shaving wood , edge is pretty fine, more of a utility knife. I haven't got one, only because Scott will accuse me of copying him! My Robust will shave different from a stock model because I've sharpened it to a zero, just warning you.

“Pop”. In American, that term is used mostly in one part of the Midwest; Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Kansas and not too much beyond that. I was surprised to hear you use it and thought you might be interested in this coincidence, also. Wonder how this regional use came to be on both sides of an ocean especially when it is so regionalized in America.

Great axemanship, Rob. Such impeccable flick there. I like Robust, but like Heavy Duty better. Good batoning knife and the sheath is better, too. I hear that Robust is more of working/shop tool and Heavy Duty is more for outdoor use due to the angle of grind. Enjoyed your video as always. Have fun packing the wet shit up Rob.

Another great video. And I concur about the Mora being a great place to start learning about knives. Just wondering if you could explain a bit more on how low pressure system impacts the draw of the fire 🔥? Thank you!
@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman 3 года назад
Not a lot to say really low pressure inhibits the smoke from rising quickly therefore decreasing the Oxygen to the burn. Ask a nurd they'll give you a clever answer. 😜

Thanks for the tip about placing the axe right over the end of the wood that your trying to split down 👍 I have a couple of questions not related to the video as well!do you just walk away from your camp and just leave it as it is?and are you on a permission or are the woods just that big down your way that you can just find somewhere no one will go?.
@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman 3 года назад
I cover the wood with the tarp. Had verbal permission years ago and haven't seen the landowner since, seen the closest neighbor about two months ago he had a chat and told me that the landowners son had taken over and he really couldn't care less. If he comes around we'll get an arrangement going. We've been using various sites in the local woods for over 30 years and never had any issues. Very lucky to be honest.

I don't remember seeing a review of the "Morakniv No. M-1-0749 Allround Utility Slicer" on your channel, but I'm a fairly new sub & haven't seen the bulk or you content yet. Because I respect your content, the more videos that I view, have you, or would you do a review & test of this model for us? I just ordered 2 from SMKW because they are so unique at 8" clip point blade, 1/16" thick stainless material, usage listed as survival. If it proves poor at firemaking, it will still make, as the name implies, a good all around lightweight camp & food prep blade

All seem like solid choices Sort of on the topic of the Robust, im looking to get something to try out a proper scandi as i really dont have much use time on one. Was wondering if you have any experience with the Helle lineup. Curious if their steel is much of an upgrade, and the snob in me definitely prefers the look. Another part of me wonders if the chisel grind mora might even make more sense in the same roll, as a dedicated woodworker Shrug
