Really enjoyed this program, 1st one I've seen - obviously seen Kieran in lots of things in the past - but really interesting to see the designers guiding the home owners through the creative process. Good idea - would have liked to have seen the upstairs. Hope they're 'appy in their home - loved his Cornish accent - proper Cornish, that.

What a great couple! I didn´t think in the beginning that they would be so open to changing the original plan but they just went on this amazing journey and it was a pleasure to take it with them. Well done and congratulations on the house.

How about larch cladding? Tieran + Piers really believe in people. Hats off. Im so impressed w these UK people, they're marvelous. Those taps are to die for.

The people who have everything out on open shelving must have a housekeeper who comes in to dust it all once a week. Anyone who has to do their own dusting wouldn't last long with this type of arrangement.

as a fellow farmer- I can relate to the home builders NOT wanting their home to look like a barn. The romanticized barn look is for people who don't work in them professionally. And that trip to the seaside was horrific- they would NEVER take the other "great hall" folks to a place like that, why take the farmers there? This episode really shows the prejudice working people face in The UK. Glad they got the modern home they wanted.

Light-filled, warm, beautiful, uncomplex design that pays sympathetic homage to the land + surroundings is actually the goal.

Love the lack of blether, less repetitious talking, lets the images and evolution of the design as the couple are exposed to alternatives. The contractor route would have produced the boring suburban mass housing style building. The music is amazing and the progress thru the seasons and stages- the awakening of Ruth and Tony is outstanding. This is such a cool documentary that is organic and so far beyond the norm.

A house with beauty derived from space and function. It was delightful watching its evolution from somebody else's show-off box to Ruth and Tony's home. I love the cladding, and will be making light boxes for my own apartment. I like the gentle wash of light.

Given the cost of recycled roof slates, bricks and stone they tossed away a small fortune with the way they razed the building. Perhaps enough to have a building designed by an architect and built by a professional contractor.
@rosslocincam9916
@rosslocincam9916 4 года назад
Yes but the cost and time to dismantle and store the stone and tiles is a factor, this was a pared back project where they wanted only one winter in the shed. If there were teams who rocked up and dismantled tidied and repurposed the materials at no cost.... then yes- but I suspect there are no such teams. The 'wham, bam, thank you mam' of the professional builder would not have resulted in such a well developed and pleasing design. The cost and quality end result speaks for itself.

Why the heck does an Architect say "wriggly tin". It just sounds ridiculous. It's called corrugated iron or corrugated steel.

Hi. The off-camera commentary in your videos is either very soft or disappears entirely. I think this means we loose a lot of the content.

The budget for voice-over narration must have been cut severely. This documentary seems to be exposition by implication. How about telling us what's happening? The whole thing is disjointed and discontinuous.

the Lutyens benches don't hurt. the cladding is a lesson desperately needed in the US. unfortunately Piers is a true anomaly in the architectural profession. The clients in this video are beyond reproach.

I generally enjoy the shows that you post on this channel however when you edit and remove the voice overs the show looses a great deal of its enjoyment. What are the reasons behind some decisions? Why the change? And many other questions are left half answered and make the show confusing and disjointed.

I thought that a wise man counts the cost before he builds. Not a bad house! I don't like bulbs hanging from wiring. In the USA; this is how early wiring was achieved. It looks cheap and too utilitarium, not chick in my opinion. The lights in the wall are great and yes old chandeliers can come inexpensively out of old houses; therefore, why not use them. Mix the old with the new tactfully in my opinion. Then opinions are like asses; everyone has one. My wife has picked up a few old cut glass chandeliers at auctions and yard sales and they look great and didn't cost much even after you factor in the cost and time of rewiring them. ( which you will have to do, that is why they sell cheap) Birch ply looks great and the polished concrete too. Then again this area of the Midwest was settled as early as 1812 and several of the frontier major battlefield of the war of 1812 were fought in the area. Lots of good, old stuff around for repurposing and restoring.

12:00 It is plain and functional, not beautiful. We public are bored of black houses and black burnt wood cladding. I gave up watching a show that designs in grand because it turned ionto a "boring modern black house description"
@14eilonwy
@14eilonwy 3 года назад
I find the original design is much more innovative, much more in tune with the landscape, had greater flow and organic feeling than what they ended up with. The homeowner says she absolutely does not want something that looks like "an old agricultural building", read a barn, and what does the architect do but go look at house that looks like a barn with a few windows to get idea. This series pales in comparison to Restoration Man and Build a New Life in the Country. This pair of hosts have really boring pedestrian taste, and are always pushing the homeowners to stick to conventions.
