Great video, but many of us are not on a budget and really like the traditional fold down stairs as we dislike the solid steps for multiple reasons, but mostly because they limit where you can put them down. This is a great gadget that may in time remove the need for a solid step.

Why do the recommend facing the spring pins toward the trailer? To me, would make sense to face them outward, easier to access and adjust.

Love that design with the exception of the protruding bolt heads on the face of the step. Wish they had used a plow bolt fastener setup.

I just purchased one of these for our 251BH. Instructions didn't show a step with the slope underneath that our steps have so started questioning if I had purchased the right one. When I searched for videos on installation and saw your logo, knew it was the video I needed to watch. Thanks!

Thanks Cory. Very helpful and informative. I've wanted solid steps for sometime now but we store our 5th wheel in a tight spot. This will be great... and i agree with you, it's pretty rver- friendly for Lippert to put this product out. Although i see this as becoming the standard for years to come. Thx again. bg

Seems like that install is backwards. Wouldn't you want to have those black handles facing the front so you can more easily reach them? Bummer that you are forced to drill through your steps. I would like to see some sort of system that allows you to bolt through the side of the steps. Heck, going forward it would be really nice to just see that system on all of their steps welded to them so there is not bolt on for when you buy new.

@@WanderingWeekends I don't doubt that it works. To me it just seems to make sense to have the black knobs facing out where you can grab them without having to reach around to them. Anyway...cool video. Will be nice to see how this product evolves.

I like that option better than the solid steps. I like being able to fold up the steps without blocking the doorway to aid in loading/unloading. But I don't quite understand the need for the steps to be grounded. I get that they like the solid feel but I've never felt like my floating steps were going to fail without some kind of ground support. Nice install video, though!
@JohnScheppler
@JohnScheppler 2 года назад
Warren the fold down steps are nice but as a person with impaired mobility the wiggle in the fold down steps are modified when you don't have good balance. This would also apply to people as they get older in years too. Having the steps solid to the ground helps greatly in reducing any accidents because of the movements.
@wmcnett
@wmcnett 2 года назад
@@JohnScheppler I can totally understand that. I'm not too sure that the handrail leading into the trailer would remain intact if someone lost their balance. My balance certainly isn't what it once was either.

I would counter sink those holes and use flat heads so they would be flush on the top. Looks like those bolt heads could be rough on bare feet.
@trentsdiyadventures
@trentsdiyadventures 2 года назад
This looks like a better design than the Campco version. We’ve been at a few campsites and even our RV pad at the house due to the slope from left to right, there is no clearance under the bottom step. We use a Valterra RV stabilizer with the ratchet strap under the step box. Seems to work well for us.
@mattc3169
@mattc3169 2 года назад
That’s a great product. Kinda wish I had that instead of the solid step. The solid steps are nice until you realize every time you want to go into the trailer when not in use, even for a second you have to fold them down and fold them back up. That can be tricky for some people who don’t have a lot of room where they store their camper. They also tend to get more dirt into the camper.
@joshhaas2410
@joshhaas2410 2 года назад
This is exactly why I have been hesitant to go with solid steps. As much as I would love that stability up and down the steps I think your experience just helped me decide they aren’t for us. Thanks.
@mattc3169
@mattc3169 2 года назад
@@joshhaas2410 glad I could help. I do like the solid steps at a campground and they are built really well, but like I said you do need room to fold them down and they are a bit on the heavy side.

I had to pull over once close to the side of the road to get inside and remember thinking "if I had the solid steps, I wouldn't be able to get in I'm so close to the guardrail. Thats why I like this.

Nice mod. Very timely as I was just on Amazon ready to order the two metal plate type with a screw jack type . This looks a lot more stable. Beats my current stack of 2 x 6's. Milwaukee drill bits in a DeWalt drill, blasphemy ! surprised the drill bit didn't snap in protest.. (lol)

@joshhaas2410
@joshhaas2410 2 года назад
Thank you for this. I might try it. I can’t stand our camco step mounts. Such a great idea but I can never get it to work right. With the Camcos, when I step on my second step, the lack of support there lifts the first step slightly and moves the camcos out of position. This is my biggest complaint. Do you notice this problem at all with the lippert design?
@WanderingWeekends
@WanderingWeekends 2 года назад

@@WanderingWeekends Killer, thanks for your reply. I have different steps than your transcend so when I install this on my Apex Nano I'll comment on this again with the result. I think ours are probably more the standard lower end double folding steps most have.

My aluminum steps thank God had rubber removable strips on the upper surface of each step that hides rivets that secures the aluminum step to the surrounding metal framework. Because of this design feature I was able to HIDE the bolt heads under the rubber strip to prevent an awful look as the one you installed. I'm surprised you didn't speak at all about the unsightly bolt heads showing on the step surface. Fortunately for me I was able to avoid that.
@WanderingWeekends

I just look at things a little different. I’m a function over form guy. These things aren’t Ferraris. They’re glorified tents really. If someone is worried about the bolt heads on my RV steps we probably won’t be friends long. 🤣 I’m all about pride of ownership and I do like for my stuff to look nice but this is silly in my opinion. To each their own.

@@WanderingWeekends Yes and yes you get some support but pretty much on the bottom step only. To me it’s a waste of money. Not even close to the support of a solid step. Yes more money but it a better product because it’s built for that reason and not a aftermarket product to pull the Pennys from your pocket. No offence to your review if it works for you.
