I just got the SC for my first gun, but you're right the biggest issue is just not enough out there so there's no grips, nearly no holsters, magazines hard to find, etc.
Yep, it seems they wanted to release a cheap gun into the market and not invest in its accessibility. They didn’t even have the money for marketing 😂 At least the gun is awesome. Hopefully it catches on!
I keep forgetting Stoeger is even a brand. I'm surprised I don't hear about them more often. The trigger guard undercut looks wonderful, but I'd have to hold it to see if it fits my hand. I had to buy a Hogue for my G3c to overcome the long trigger pull. The Stoeger STR-9SC looks promising with the handle hump to add depth to the grip.
I have had multiple stoegers and currently have a str-9sc and have never had any issue with them matter of a fact i got my current str-9sc on sale for $219.99 with a $50mir so $169.99 which is a deal. I do want to state though its only a deal if you keep it as is and not looking for any mods but for that price i only got 1 10rnd mag and mags are $35 each and i bought 3(2 13rnd and 1 more 10rnd) thats $105 not counting tax and shipping or the $40 holster that puts me at $449.57 all in after transfer fee and at that price there is many options out there and that brings me to my point on this gun from this vid. Right now the base model is selling around $359.99 with a $50mir with no optics cut and 2 mags but the enhanced model being about $100 more opens up a lot of competition. I have seen just today the hellcat gear up pak for $399 or the canik mete mc for $399 or a shield plus or for $299.99 so that's the issue i think for this gun is if you stick with the cheapest option it is a deal, however if you want the better option it puts it in line with big name options. Dont get me wrong i love my stoeger and dont regret my purchase it is a great gun and extremely accurate but right now as of this moment theres other options too that i think many people would consider over the stoeger.
Brett, can I plz post my new Micro9 Battle Royal STR-9mc vs Shield Plus vs Max9 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2EOJcyaiDKs.html The Stoeger has become 1 of my Favorite CCWs in my To 5 Rotation & I shredded the best I have w/ a New Model STR-9 yesterday smoking fast on 3 attacker drills!
@NightwoodGuns Thanks much appreciate it. I truly can't believe how fast I was yesterday w STR-9 and carrying the MC now. Waiting on that guest invite for a podcast, maybe I can talk defensive display stories, SWAT, MMA etc too
I'm just here to say that I typically don't watch videos from RU-vidrs who use the goofy facial expressions in their video thumbnails. Yours is the exception, because you create high quality content. If you start doing the MILF duck face expressions, I'm out :)
😂 Thanks for not judging the thumbnails too harshly. I honestly cringe when I do them, but my click rate is WAY higher when I do the stupid faces 🤦♂️ I will hold out for as long as I can against using the MILF duck face 🤣
A few weeks ago I saw this pistol And it was $429. It comes with 3 Magazines. I loved write when I picked it up. I have a sig 365 And I love this gun. I've had it for many many years. But I am left handed. How hard would it be for me to get a holster for this?
Man, I got this gun recently. Love everything about it, but it shoots 6" high and a 4-5 week repair time after stoeger gets it back. Huge disappointment and makes me regret my purchase.
Apparently they had a bad batch of sights go out after my review. A few people have commented on it but they’ve all gotten it fixed by now. Thanks for sharing your experience, it’s a valuable data point 👍
Thanks for the review, I got this before the rebate.....sad. My experience is pretty much the same as what you described. The gun performed 100% reliable out of the box with at least 6 different brands of ammo. It's now on 500 rounds without a single hiccup and compared to the P365, I don't find it any more snappy or uncomfortable to shoot. The two biggest downsides are the slide serration and the sharp rear sights which digs into your skin. Hopefully it will gain some traction and will have more aftermarket support in the future.
I will stick with my Shield plus for a micro carry. It looks a lot thinner than this. I also have a Glock 48. It does not look like a bad gun but I see no need for another concealment 9MM
Came here to say, thank you for showing some love to Stoeger. These guns are very underrated, reliable, and fun to shoot. I have the STR-9S (+1500rds) Combat and STR-9SC (+400rds). Love those guns. As stated, just need more holster support. When your looking for a good bang for your buck, these are it. And it surprises me when you see budget list and they always include a Taurus but never these. I own a Taurus and it's trash compared to these. Just my two cents. Great review. Cheers!
Just bought the str9sc I believe for my wife. It’s the one that resembles the Glock 26 in size. I also just ordered the str40 from Buds. Figured for 300 with a 50 dollar rebate why not.
Awesome review, the p10c is still regularly $300, which if you are willing to have slightly bigger is the way to go. But this is pretty awesome. God if this thing just had some crossover holster compatibility with the 43x or hellcat it would be amazing. Or if LAS carried a holster.
For a bigger compact, the P10C on sale is nearly impossible to beat for the price 👍 I agree about the holster compatibility with the Stoeger. If we could just get a major brand like LAS, etc on board it would be incredible.
And even if you want to go smaller, you can find the P10S for around 350 regularly. Just picked up the P10S Optics Ready version for 375. You can even find the even smaller P10M for sub $250 regularly
my homie has the str9c (not mc), and he really enjoys it as his carry. I've gotten to shoot it a couple of times and I think these are underrated as well, namely the good ergonomics and trigger
I remember when the Taurus GX4 was the new hotness. Bought one because it was cheap ($263 out the door), with two 11 round Mecgar magazines (I bought the +2 extensions and springs combo, for 13+1 and spare 13 capacity). The only changes I made were night sights and Hogue grip. After 250 round break in (and over 1,500 rounds total) including JHP, FMJ and Tula steel case it’s performed without any hiccups. Best part is I can find aftermarket support (Glock sights, kydex IWB holster). It’s accurate at self-defense distances, but I can reliably hit what I’m aiming at out to 50 yards.
@@NightwoodGunsof course no other manufacturer has ever had a recall. I give Taurus credit over some others, i.e. Sig, for publicly recognizing the issue with those early GX4’s and initiating the recall. They could’ve ignored and/or denied the issue like Sig did for so long with their P365 but they didn’t. I’m not trashing on Sig or the P365 at all, it’s a great pistol and loved by many and Sig is deservedly a well regarded manufacturer. I’m simply pointing out that even the most respected manufacturers have had issues and Taurus has earned some measure of respect for their response when it was their turn. Now, how about you get this Stoeger out there alongside the Taurus GX4XL and the Sig P364XL for a comparison review. Maybe you would think of others to fit into that category to include as well. Your findings would be well worth watching. In the meantime, keep up the good work.
50 yards is pretty tough for most compact pistols, most of the guys I shoot with even with full size they have problems hitting at 50 yds on steel, you might be a little hard on yourself, misread your comment you do hit it 50 yards with that wow you're a good shot
Stoeger. I think of shotguns when I hear Stoeger. With that being said, I really like the feature packed STR line and it's reasonable price tag. At this point, I purchase solely from American manufacturers. I would go with a Shield Plus, Equalizer, or SD9VE before this #Stoeger #CoffeeLoophole Nice review Brett
How would you compare the texture on the grip to the M&P Shield Plus? It looks like it's a little more aggressive, but just a little bit more... not by a lot.
Too close to call. It’s pretty close to the same. Like you said, maybe a hair more aggressive. I do prefer the surface area of the grip texture on the Shield Plus, though.
I’m glad you mentioned holster availability. That’s something a lot of new gun owners don’t think about when they go out and buy a less popular gun that’s otherwise a nice gun.
@@NightwoodGuns Sticky holsters are great as a temporary fix, and it's pretty easy to make Kydex holster if you're a DIY person (lots of instructional videos online).
Dang, just saw one of these last week for 149 after rebate. Maybe I should've jumped on it. Just wish it had a manual safety. I don't personally mind it missing, but the wife is really uncomfortable with guns in the house that don't have one.
@@NightwoodGuns she didn't grow up around guns, so she feels more comfortable with them if they have a safety. Also because of the kids in the house (even though any guns stay locked up)
I know people like to clown on Taurus, but I love my G3c... for the money it's ridiculous (and it came with 3 steel mags!) and on top of that there is a 3D printable frame called the FOSS Cannon for it. I think I ran about 200 rounds at the range with the G3c guts in the FOSS Cannon and didn't have a single issue.
Turkish pistols stay winning, I know the canik MC9 has its issues but overall they’re really giving us poors a lot of great options. You can even put Langdon parts in Girsan’s beretta clones. Regarding holsters I wonder if something like the phlster floodlight TLR 7 would work?
Got mine back, was still a bit high but was really able to crank it down to make it good & filmed comparing it 3-way battle vs Shield Plus & Max9, 25 yards & JHPs too!
Looks like a nice one. You've peaked my interest. 😉 Just a thought on the Glock triggers -- A while back I looked into Glock to see if they had ever had any kind of mishaps like the supposed P320 issues, and I couldn't find anything. I did, however, find a LOT of reports of pedestrians AND police officers accidentally shooting one another due to the trigger, which led to a lot of lawsuits. My theory is that perhaps Glock got so 'scurred' of being sued further that they decided to make the crappiest trigger possible to ensure that they cover their bootums.
😂 That’s an interesting theory! The transition from double action guns to striker guns definitely caused a lot of negligent “booger hook on the bang switch” incidents. But the G43x/G48 triggers are particularly awful.
@@NightwoodGuns I went back to the store today and walked out with an STR-9MC! I picked it up again and looked at it and just loved the way she felt in my hand. Super excited to have this gun! Your video really opened my eyes to the gun itself so I thank you again! Also came with an extra mag in the box which is always nice!
compelling review. Watched our MC9 review last night, I was all set to buy one.... now I'm concerned. I'm new to your reviews, do you show shooting results? 5/7 yard accuracy for a defensive pistol? Are the magazines proprietary or do they cross over with anything else? I'll check out your full size Stoeger review.
I have two MC 9’s and l carry them. I’ve not had an out of battery issue at all. I think they’re fantastic and l’ve tried every micro compact. the mete works for me. Range USA has them available to rent, if they’re by you. Rent one. Another gun with exceptional value and trust my life with it.
Accuracy and shooting results are more-so a reflection of the shooter instead of the gun itself. All of these pistols are accurate out to any practical distance. As far as I know the mags are proprietary. I show shooting results in videos that focus on drills and shooting performance. 👍
I bought a STR-9MC yesterday. Unlike the description on their website, mine came with a 10 round magazine with a pinky extender base plate. Is this removable, leaving a flush mount base plate or do I have to somehow get a flush mount base plate?
@@NightwoodGuns thx mate. I’ll try the feel for both and make a decision. Granted I find decent pricing. I’m assuming you can’t go wrong with either correct ? I had a G3C but got taken as evidence from the police unfortunately 😔
@@MastermindRell Man, that sucks… Keep in mind, both are budget guns so both can have problems. That being said, they are about equal. So yeah, either way you’ll be getting the same quality 👍
I've been buying up all the Walther PPQ that hit my local classifieds. Been getting them at $300. Not that I'd buy the Stoeger (not even sure if I'd take the time to email for T&E) but have you shot the PPQ? Thoughts comparing the two?
The PPQ is a great gun! As far as full size guns go I’d take one over a Stoeger any day 👍 I’ve never emailed a company for T&E, do they send stuff to pretty much anyone?
@@NightwoodGuns It depends. Some companies are weird and you have to go back and forth for a week for a $600 gun... some will straight up send you $14,000 worth of guns (That was two guns. From the owner's personal collection) with a 20 min convo. And one in particular, I'm going to call out by name because they aren't what they used to be 5 years ago... Staccato fkd me over promising me a gun for a few months and when the time came, gave me a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If you like, I can send you a list of non-shilly companies that will send you guns but not expect certain revu00s.
@@NightwoodGuns With SHOT coming up... T&E is a mess. You won't get anything until Feb now. Everyone has guns under actual lock and key (anyone smart) so they don't disappear at some YTbrs house for the multi-billion dollar industry event. HOWEVER, you don't WAIT until Feb to ask... you start asking in Nov through Jan to get on 'lists' for samples. It helps if you keep your ear to the ground to know what is launching and ask early, because places like DemoRanch, and Honest Outlaw of course are going to get first position on the sample list.
@@m4rvinmartian Interesting. Not surprised about Staccato, tbh 🤣 Yeah, shoot me an email or a DM on Insta when you get some time, I appreciate that 👍 I just want to stay away from shill-city 😅
Could you see if the stoeger slide fits onto a glock 43x or 43 frame? And if a glock slide can fit onto the stoeger frame? The stoeger compact can fit onto glock 19s, and I think the sc can fir the glock 26, and full size can fit the glock 17
This caught my attention somehow and has been on my radar for a couple months. On paper I like everything about it. I think you brought home all the considerations perfectly.
Well...I watched it to the end, liked and commented. I don't live in AZ. It's cold out. I will carry a full size DW 1911 and not think about Micro 9s until April or May. Always enjoy your vids!
Seems like a great one and done micro aside from holster supply but I still lean Glock or Sig even tho likewise not a micro fan. There are more stories of Glock/S&W/Beretta/Sig even H&K QC issues simply because more people use em and will post about it even if it’s small percentage of actual problems.
🔥Muddy River Tactical makes great holsters and already has one for the Stoeger STR9 I put a request to them as well. They will likely have it before anyone else. So definitely request STR9 MC from Muddy River Tactical
have put over 2k rounds thru mine..got the optic ready one..not one misfire...ya its a snappy lil one but it is accurate as hell ..the mags have gotten a little easier to load with the mageula but still cant put all 13 in.
I keep a couple Sticky holsters around as a backup and most micro/compact 9's fit perfectly in them. I used to carry my Hi-Point C9 in one and had no trouble. I'm pretty sure the Stoeger would also fit. I know my Taurus GX4 fits (currently using Taurus' proprietary GX4 holster).
Great review! Subbed and stayed til the end. I have no intention of getting this gun, as I have a P365 and LCP Max for my daily carry, and I'm happy with them. The Max has every upgrade available from Mcarbo, and it really makes a difference. Both have Hogue grip sleeves as well. I will be getting the STR-9F in a couple of days.
Im glad I bought my Canik MC9 before seeing this video. I love mine, and several who shot mine love it, too. I'll have to go back to that video to see when you reviewed it. The earlier models, pre-production runs had seceral issues. Anyway, I love my MC9, but now I am thinking about the Str-9mc. Thank you for the review. As with all reviews, I try to get a feel for the reviewer's likes and dislikes and maybe prejudices. Thanks again fr the review.
Hello Nightwood Guns. This is the first of your videos I've seen, thanks for a great review!...New sub here. I like what I see and hear about the STR-9MC, except for the lack of holster availability and after-market support, and we don't yet know about it's reliability. At this point in time, I would rather go with the Taurus GX4-XL (non-t.o.r.o.) In my opinion they have a damn good concealed carry defense trigger, I can shoot them accurately with my x-large hands with x-long fingers, after-market support is good, and so is reliability. I don't concern myself with the drop safety recall anymore, as that issue has been dealt with. And almost all pistol manufacturers have had problems with their new models.
I have a stoeger str 9c, l like stoeger. I think they’re highly underrated and present a lot value for the money. I think the stock trigger is fantastic. Distinctly better than a stock glock trigger. They’re (str 9c) easy to shoot and accurate. Glocks have a learning curve in my opinion to become accurate with them in my opinion. I have 2330 rounds through mine. I noted the same cons as you. Holster support is an issue. I wish more holsters providers would support the brand. Another con l’ve noticed since something was brought to my attention on another gun namely a shadow system. Is internal wear. Only had this gun for less than a year. The metal parts the slide rides on is showing a bit of wear. Which caused me to look at my other guns. My Glocks aren’t showing the same type of wear in these areas. And l have almost double the round count. My shadow systems MR however is, and showing a bit of wear on the polymer, where the guide rod sits. With only 780 rounds through it. Not good for a 1100.00 gun. So at the price point, is the metal stoeger is using a bit softer, to get at that price point? Is this normal? Hasn’t affected functionality in any way yet. But something I’m watching. But my slide squeaks now on my stoeger press checking or while locking the slide back. So my overall concern would be long term durability of these guns. But l would definitely choose and carry this over a Taurus. Stoeger offers a lot of value to beginners and veteran shooters and there’s really nothing you really need to change. Also one other con. The optic cuts are not deep enough to co witness with the stock sights. And the iron sight options, the stock sights are great. But if you want suppressor height sights not sure if Glock sights will work. And they are hard as hell to try to move to adjust the windage. With a sight pusher because of the angle of the iron sights. On a different note, I think you just got a bad mete mc 9. I have two and l EDC them not one out of battery issue. But great review on this pistol.
It's 300$ because it probably doesn't come with the same level of customer service and lifetime warranties. There are a lot of cheap copycat international guns, but it depends on what you need. If you plan on practicing and putting wear and tear on the weapon, it's a no-go. It’s not comparable to a CR920 until its optic system works just as well!
I just took advantage of a couple of deals on PSA Full size Dagger slide with optic cut, threaded barrel and suppressor height sights and the "SW1" slide cut fo $200. The full size frame for $50. Even with about $30 for the transfer fee to my local FFL, that's still less than $300!!!
I am with you I have the p365 and I am not a fan of micro compacts. The sight radius and snappiness. I have issues with my hands and holding smaller guns and shooting fifty rounds and my hands will start locking up and going numb. (Carpal tunnel issues genetics I guess). So holding full size guns it doesn’t bother me as much until about 300 rds. But I have been looking for one of these just to hide somewhere for a backup. Thanks for the video. I didn’t know you wrote books. I myself am an artist and thought about many times creating books for kids. Keep it up boss man.
Walther PPQ M2 in 9mm. Look on your local classifieds, and then offer them $300. Keep going til you get one. Got one in my SoB right now. Very comfortable gun.
This is a great cheap micro gun to stash, for sure! 😎👍 What kind of art do you do? You should definitely do those kids books, if you don’t you’ll probably always regret it. Share your art with the world!
I'm sure my LGS probably won't have any anytime soon, but I'll be keeping my eyes peeled. I'm curious, have you ever gotten your hands on the Kimber R7? I was thoroughly impressed with it for the feature set. They have them now for 520 online as a tacpac/gearup package with a holster and 5 mags and am thinking of picking up another one after i traded mine off last year.
we keep hearing this for the price saying, someone who had this pistol tell us, if the name said glock, hk, walther, fn any of the higher end brands would you still rave about it or is this just another budget firearm that you'd rather put a couple extra dollar with and get something more expensive
I have one of these, and absolutely love it. The mags do take some time, to break in. As far as holsters, I have a Hellcat holster, from Alien Gear. Since it is virtually a Hellcat... but shoots better... I feel confident with it as a edc, in that holster.
Nerd out, brother!!! I agree with everything you said. Another review I watched said that the optic cover was fastened down with flat head style screws. Lol. I'm not sure if there's a 1st and 2nd generation...
Stoeger is definitely bringing it! It just seems like they don’t have much of a marketing budget. These are great pistols and I’d love to see them gain some traction.
Wow it has 2 more capacity than the hellcat and is only like 1 cm taller Only bad part is the stoeger trigger guard sits so low meaning I get less finger room to hold the gun. The hellcat trigger guard sits high and allows you to get those 3 fingers on the grip and mag.
