All these years later, my omnath deck slaps people upside the head and is an unstoppable machine. Thank you guys for this from the bottom of my heart, I wouldn’t be here without you ❤️
For some reason I wanted to look up this video again. I bought the exact deck you guys showcased many years ago. I’m not using too many of the cards here anymore, but because of you guys, I found my favorite deck of all time. I know this is super late, but I appreciate the effort you guys put into this video all those years ago.
Top 5 spend a little more cards: 1. Caged Sun 2. Zendikar Resurgent 3. Vernal Bloom 4. Primordial Hydra 5. Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury Also Think If your playgroup has no land removal rule, then think about the combo of druids that untap a land with land enchantments where you get an extra mana for each tap (wild growth). you could have say 5 druids and 5 enchantments on a land (producing 6 a tap) = 6 taps a turn X 6 mana per tap = 36 mana a turn.
I just started playing edh and magic not to long ago. and every person I meet has this awesome, great, synergistic commander deck. They look awesome, but when I hear how much they spent on their decks I think I nearly fainted. I want to get into EDH because it looks so fun, but I just don't have the money to spend on an expensive deck that I might not like, or doesn't perform as well as I wanted it to. Looking at this deck list, and even better its price, I feel like I can build this without fearing regretting my decision, and just enjoy my time playing. I really love what this channel is doing.
You are 100% right, we also love the game but were not too excited about dropping $1,000 on cardboard for one deck. We think these decks will hold their own against those expensive decks.
A friend sent me this link because I have an Omnath EDH and it is amazing how quickly it gets out of hand, instead of tokens I rely on fight to clear my enemies, equipment that gives him flight, trample, shroud and indestructible so I am target number one when he comes out ^_^ I love my Omnath, next will be my Omnath Locust of Rage deck lol
Holy crap, this deck is awesome! 30 dollars? I was expecting 100-200! This is a great channel and a great series, very informative and well thought out. Keep it up!
If I want to get fatties out I play braids (I hate playing mono-green) plus people like me helping them out. Then I can use clones to copy their big expensive bombs so I don't have to pay the big money for a blightsteel colossus ulamog vorinclex. As well as have access to leviathans and krakens and general blue shenaniganry. For your next commander maybe tasigur or gwafa hazid. Or maybe take a look at a budget modern deck or even just a casual deck. Keep doing what you're doing seeing a video from you guys in my sub box makes my day.
Sounds like you have the right strategy for building awesome budget decks. We are busy with budget modern now so that is on it's way soon. We will make a note of your additional suggestions ;).
currently building a Memnarch deck. Got some free cards which left me with some spare cash. And I've had this omnath sitting around for a while . . . . I think I'm gonna have to run this into the ground. the ground being my playgroups various faces hahaha! great list!! I built your narset list ( with a few more pricy additions) for my friend and he refuses to even attempt another EDH deck because he loves it so much!
Great video guys! I love playing my Omnath deck. I got some really good ideas from the video. Seed born Muse and Kalonian Hydra are amazing in this deck even though they aren't budget.
Probably this gonna be my first commander Deck...someday :D....Because i always wanted to make a Treegolk/sprolin themed deck with a OBSCENE quantity of mana.... I really love this channel
Thanks +Franco Alessandro Marchetti! Glad you enjoy the videos :). Well if you like mana then Omnath is your guy, it's not unusual to have 15 mana in your mana pool, attacking with a 16/16 commander and then casting everything from your hand in the second main phase...aahhh good times.
Thanks alot for doing this, this is the first of your decks that i bought and although it isnt complete yet (10 cards are still on their way) it plays great and seems to be ideal for starters like my gf or friends that know only the basics of magic
I'm new to EDH. so when I saw this card I was a little confused on omnath ability. And of course since I'm a little off of EDH I realize wow I have a commander I can use lol. Super thanks for all the extra tools for making a affordable deck. I'm gunna see what I can do with what I have. And maybe use what you suggested to... Amp it up. Again it's affordable.
Really good stuff guys, congratulations! As for the game play I know that you guys know cloneheads and I really like his style of game plays, so maybe something like what he does but with budget decks? :)
I feel like you should do a game play video on all your commander decks. And when making them after each video ask if we like the way you edited, camera angles, and sound volume. Then just try to think a different way to do it and try it out until you get it right. Too many full edh games are shot one specific way that takes away from the play of the game. Example (mtgmuddsta) he is the one I like the most but at the same time we miss out on all the politics and banter in the middle of the game. Last Friday it was me and one other guy and his deck went off and hit me for 40k while about 10 other people watched. The reaction of their face was funny. And no hard feeling towards him the week before I killd him 😁
What do you guys think abbout adding one last section to every video, an upgrades section, where you cover some upgrade cards you think are priority upgrades that lead the deck to the next level, but do not necessarily fit the 1 dolar rule. After building my Lazav, Edric, Rafiq and Rakdos I'm having lots of fun upgrading the decks, I know that this can be subjective, and it's better to each person fine tune their own decks, so my suggestion is that you guys just give a guideline. Thx, can't wait for the new content!
Thanks for the suggestion +Philippe Ferreira. We have thought about this but we don't do it for two main reasons. We are not experts at which non-budget cards are good and it would take a lot of extra time to also create a list of extra cards next to the ones already in the deck. Sorry :/
great video guys, im going to buiild this deck as a start, then im going to upgrade it with better cards from time to time. keep the good stuff going :)
Hi +Zalrok1, you can get Omnath for $7 but more likely you wil have to pay $10. Please don't pay four times as much for him...he's good, but not that good!
This looks great deck but you can put also do primal order in it because if you're opponent play a multi colored deck then come there pretty much non-basich lands and that means very much damage each turn
It's true +Levi Feijen that that card will do plenty of damage. However the question is whether the card has synergy with what this deck wants to do (mana ramp). We think you will find that pumping Omnath with extra green mana is more powerful than just a bit of extra damage a turn. However, that's just our humble opinion.
Please do videos of suggestion on how to build an EDH deck on a commander. Ex: what cards would you suggest for a deck around Liliana, Heretical Healer?
We love this suggestion. This could be a series explaining the basics of building a commander deck and specifically how to build certain archetypes. Perfect!
We think you will find that card is more at home in the Rhys the Redeemed deck +Levi Feijen. What if you draw it and you don't also have a token producer? Rhys makes much better use of Doubling season than Omnath ever could. Just our experience though.
Budget elf is tricky +Steel Dom. The reason why is because the good tribal elf cards are all being used in modern so the price gets hiked up a bit too much to make effective budget decks. But we will have a look anyway ;).
We will be doing a reanimator deck +Thomas Geale. Not sure if it will be Sheoldred as she comes out so late and can be easily removed. But we will make one ;).
what do you think about playing dictate of karametra in this deck? it could help a lot to finish our opponent (of course we don't want to play it always, but if our opponent has no cards in hand this can't help him too much), if you play two turns with this and you have an evasion for omnath you almost won the game I suppose.
We contemplated including it in the deck +francesco zebrastabber. But the ramp cards are also super important in this deck when you getting started and not only when you can finish your opponent. The fact that this card also helps your opponents was simply a risk we didn't want to take, so it didn't make the cut.
Good question +James Willett. We test out the decks against other decks in the budget series at least twice by different people. Which means a deck will have been played at least 50 times before we are confident enough to do a deck tech on it.
Soooo, I'm fairly new to Magic the gathering, i'm doing some "classic 60 cards deck" games with friends. I'm trying do build a mono-green "wurm" deck (with "Engulfing Slagwurm, Elderscale wurm, palakka wurm and the wurm you used too (forgot his name), the intimidate one). My biggest problem is that i never have the time to have enough mana for those big cards, do you think that some of your 1 mana/2 mana cards will and Omnath will help ? :) I'm looking for some advice :p. Great video btw !
The key to playing expensive spells like the wurms is threefold. 1: low cost mana ramp (i.e. rampant growth) 2: Early defense (i.e Deadly recluse) 3: Removal (Prey upon). Also don't go overboard on the Wurms as you only need a few to win your game.
Wurm decks are tricky, but you can build it as long as you have cheap mana ramp cards and some cheap deathtouchers (deadly recluse) to protect yourself early game until you have enough mana to cast the Wurms. We do not recommend Omnath in Modern.
I have a few cards that could be good in this deck. I was wondering if they would do well in the deck, and what I would sub them in for: Courser of Kruphix + Nykthos, shrine to Nyx+ Astral cornucopia
Hi +Nathan Olson, we would add the courser instead of a ramp card. Nykthos instead of a basic land and Nissa...not sure, but definitely include her if you can :D
im confused on omnaths ability. so you tap the forest, and it goes to your pool and stays there because of him. does untapped mana that becomes tapped to cast spells stay on your pool too, or does it leave because its being spent? and you DO in fact need to tap your lands?
Hi +bdaddy23, sorry but we only deal with budget cards. If you want non budget help here are loads of better channels and websites which can help you without restrictions.
+bdaddy23 Back when I played Omnath, doubling cube was an all-star. Run cards that give creatures flash in case your opponents destroy Omnath on their turns, and since mana is still their until end of turn, you can just quickly flash Omnath back into the game, so you don't lose that mana. Hope that helps!
Just a quick addition, mana empties at the end of each phase not just at then of the turn. So if Omnath gets killed during combat you have to flash cast Omnath again during combat to make use of the floating mana.
We didn't even know Library of Leng existed! Thanks for that +weaverst. The card draw is actually not insane so we would not include it. we just want as many cards to give us green mana which neither of those cards do.
Hi Dr Necro! We should have done it before we hit 5,000. We will make a video where people can ask questions in a couple of weeks. Sorry for the delay!
At the end of each commander video you get to see who the next commander will be. So the answer will be revealed to you at the end of the Omnath video...:P
+Max Br Ooh, you're right, my bad. That is really disappointing. Guess that's why it's important to have cards like Yeva, Nature's Herald in this build and/or Aluren if you have a bit more in the budget.
