@@chasewells5464 wait till they come out with more of these aluminum versions its an amazing knife for the price. They're almost better than titanium because a lot less rattle
Hey, Jared. I got a tanto D2 version off of Amazon a few weeks ago. You're right about the blade grind being not great. I sharpened mine and it was hard and took a good edge. It definitely ain't Reate quality but it isn't bad for $46.
One of the most impressive clones I've seen in a long time. That being said..the packaging makes it a COUNTERFEIT and is illegal. So dumb. They could have legally sold this as a clone if they used regular packaging and called it something else.
@@DsTAiiN8oh8 Yeah so what? Im just talking about the fake manufacturing companies. They are prevelant in china because they have pretty relaxed laws for that stuff
@@-tzadakim-7805 Yeah, but scammers usually preys on ignorant. Its for example someone who doesnt know anything about knives, but wants to buy one for example as gift or as their first knife, and think they found deal. Its not coinsidence they make even the packaging, and such look like its from real company they know what they are doing
Appreciate the comparison! I have a few variations of the real deal, but Im quite curious about the Nitro BHQ ver. Interesting seeing how "close" the clone came this time. Cheers!
I have a genuine EXO and the clone version. It’s pretty scary how well made the clone is. So far, the blade has sharpened up nicely and held a decent edge
Not surprised in the least about the clone version, pretty much every popular knife has been cloned by now, they don't care regarding intellectual property rights or morals for that matter, just how to make money period. It's great that they made an affordable version and im sure it will be very popular for a bit but that clone is definatly going to eat into thier profit margin eventually like they all do. And like you said with the clone you have no idea if the materials are even correct what they label them as. if they would go far enough to put the Originals name on it what else are they lying about. Thanks for the great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
you said it.. I got the clone for the experience because I don't have the money for the real thing. and honestly I've scratched that itch, and it just sits in a case not getting used.
Your totally right in everything you say, if it was the fact that they didn’t try and make it be as close to the real version as they do, but instead had their own version or put their own name on it that would be a start. The blatant ripoff of another company and portraying it as that companies work is just pathetic on all fronts. Yet all you need do is scroll down the comments to see that not everyone has this sort of morals and are more than happy to keep this sort of thing alive and well. If I had to put my money on it they’re the same people that shout about things being to expensive! I am in no way a rich person hell i haven’t got over 30-40£ in my bank account but as long as my bills are paid when I do get my money I will either drop £150-180 or if I got my eye on the higher ranges then I just wait for a month or two till that money is built up. It seems like more people are in this gotta have it now now now. As if it’s not going to feel the same if they wait for it. Then again if they’re trying for an exclusive release then best of luck with my way. Top tip if you’re one of those then put money away for such occasions. Hope you and Kara have a cracking weekend Jerad and more importantly stay safe and healthy 🫵🏻😘👍🏼
I just got the new blade HQ version. I already had a DLT exclusive, and this blade HQ exclusive is really nice man. It has a lot less rattle. I highly recommend the budget aluminum version if they become available again
I got one too. Mine has the tiniest bit of rattle when locked. My Elmax/ti exo m smkw exclusive rattles like crazy, both of my exo u’s do too. I thought I just got lucky with this one. Maybe they figured something out on this run.
@@howardmyboy2 I was wondering if just got a good one too but now this confirms it , altered it to get a tighter feel. I have the same scenario , titanium and utility rattle , aluminum much tighter , all of them are sweet
The same factory must've gotten better. I just received a D2 clone with a much better grind on the blade, (even stonewash finish) and even the Reate Logo lasered onto the frame.
Gravity knives look cool but always way outta my price range, even the clone is more than I wanna spend but I think I can justify it in my budget. I certainly will put it to work.
Great episode Jerad! you know.. I have strong feelings about clones.. it always boils down to it being a personal decision. Buy what you like, but know this, the dopamine hit you get from getting that clone is short lived, those who do buy them wont be respected in this community no matter how good the clone actually is, and for those who truly do love the clone, they almost always end up justifying the cost of the real one anyways...also with there being a budget version now there really is no more excuses to support the trash panda's stealing intellectual property with no recourse or desire to truly serve the community or their customer base... do the right thing guys... dont support theft.. save up your money and buy what you really wanted all along.. or again.. just get the budget version 😂
It’s sad that we live in a world where companies are making clones of well made products, especially when they market it as the real thing. This knife definitely took a designer (or team of designers) a lot of time and effort to create, and hardworking employees time and effort to manufacture. I understand that the real deal is out of a lot of people’s price range (including mine at the moment), and the clone might allow someone to have something they want that they couldn’t afford otherwise. I’m sure there’s been plenty of cases where people buy a clone for their first knife, and love it so much they get the real thing or become life long members of the knife community. But I feel like a clone is one big, giant middle finger to the people who worked so hard to design the real deal.
It’s not sad at all, knives shouldn’t cost that much to begin with, those materials aren’t nearly worth the price. The fact they are able to make it for a fraction of the selling price, just proves brand names will rip their customers off. Gravity knife technology has been around for a long time, it’s not that innovative.
Gotta say. I gotta Chinese clone... i DID take it apart and laid in some white lithium grease and it's as smooth as butter! Quite fun blade to play with😊
@@truetalonlmao imagine mentioning Mick Strider when talking about integrity 🤣 dude counterfeited his whole back story. But don’t let that interfere with your feelings of being butthurt…
Crazy how nice it is for $40 it makes me wonder how little money there willing to make off of selling these. We have to assume they have less than 30% of time and materials in the asking price which is bonkers. Makes me wonder how much reate makes off of each one they sell. I know the man power cost more in the USA but reate is china made just like the clone. it’s d2 not m390 but even if they sold it with real m390 it would be $100 prob less think Twosun. Idk the more I think about it the more I feel like I’m getting scammed somewhere along the way. But I like the designs and that’s the price the real ones sell for and plenty of people r willing to pay it so $300-350 is just the new price for knives now lol. Please don’t take this the wrong way I’m just talking or typing out loud over here. And I know there r plenty of great buys under the 300-350 price. Kizer Militaw,Asher spiro golden design works, Vosteed. lots of great knives that r around the $200-250 mark and I feel like that’s where these bestech and reate models should be as well. But that’s just me.
I bought the early clone. The lock button is trash. The rest of the knife is decent for a $50 price point. Mine lives in the box mostly and is not an EDC becuz that lock switch.
Ya. Maybe you got a lemon. Mine is pretty darn close to the original. I bought it to compare against the original. Man, that is darn close. For $36, I'd say it was a deal. I went and took a look at the grind compared to Jerad's. Mine has a satin grind and looks a lot better than his. Maybe a different manufacturer. Don't rightly know.
There is definitely more than one place manufacturing this. I have one with the text on the knife and some better grinds. There are at least 3 different manufacturers doing these clones each with their own nuances.
The clone looks good. If it would be real D2 with good heat treatment, it would be fine for me. But the problem ( and it's a big one) is you don't know what you realy get. For this reason, I say no thanks 😅
I've got an OG Exo... and it's just relegated to being in my collection cabinet. I might try out the clone as a beater. ...that blade hq one is looking pretty solid as well.
lol i got clones for 24 bucks each. i think ill just swap knives if anything breaks and end up alright. all the clones are already taken off the market atm. dont forget reate is a chinease made knife brand. i bet there is no difference in steel quality. chinease int property is not worth defending. most of the clones i buy are better than originals now days
Nobody buying these or any nice clones thinks that its a real deal, infact the new 4 inch blade version that the clone manufacturer has released doesnt have any branding on it.
I wouldn’t buy a clone because: 1) if I’m using it for self defense I wouldn’t trust the shortcuts they took to make it and 2) if I’m just buying it for show, then what’s the point of showing off a fake?
The last time I checked stamp.Collectors don't go around showing people their stamp Is collections. But knife collectors do because they need constant validation from everybody who isn't themselves to know that they didn't waste five hundred dollars on something they're never going to use.
Validation? Yeah your opinion is completely false, we show off knives because it's our hobby, knives are the world's oldest tools and we still cannot survive without them. In all of our ancestors pasts we passed down knives, blades and swords as something to be honored. Today it is still in our DNA. Also this is by far the best community ever! I've never seen one that was as helpful or kind as this one. Some people come for the knives but stay for the people
@@devildogwhisper the only people who need clarification are people who can't think for themselves. They need mommy and daddy to tell them what they should believe because they have no idea how to do it themselves.
The irony is he buys these knives?Just so he can put them in storage and never use them again. Professional opinion is more like a useless opinion. He buys knives He will never use for a living. Keep That in mind The next time you want to use an influencer as the reason why you Made a purchase.
Many I guess my hundreds of sharpening and knife testing videos were all faked 😆 🤣 my videos even go back to my old job using my knife all day long. You sound like you just need a friend or a hug
I understand that you are standing up for yourself aggainst someone who is clueless, but saying that he probably needs a friend or a hug is not the right thing to say in a society where a lot of people struggle everyday being alone.@@NeevesKnives
This is the worst example of a influencer as you call him you could ever use. This man sharpens knives daily for people, and also used to work construction and used his knives everyday. What a terrible example you have picked. Find a better example and maybe someone will agree with you then.
