If you are considering a prestige, I recommend also looking at the tradition. It is personally my favorite Clarinet, but the model actually doesn't matter as long as it is a good instrument, just keep in mind not all of the clarinets of a particular model play the same. Nice video!

I was blessed to have been gifted a Buffet Crampon at the age of 11 that I trained on for 11 years that was imported from France. All of my music teachers were very curious at how I obtained it at such a young age. I didn’t realize at the time the prestige or value in the instrument I had. I also had a secondary cheap student model, and the difference was obvious. I wouldn’t pick any other brand than a Buffet Crampon. It stayed with me for years as I continued playing at the collegiate level.

I played on one from the time I was 12 until I stopped playing regularly at 22. I still got it out periodically, but I am back playing again and joining a very active community concert band.

Hi. I'm looking for a new clarinet but, there are so many that I'm really confused hahaha. My hands are short and clarinets with no ergonomic keys doesn't help me a lot. From your long experience and expertise, which model you think that could be more appropriate for a person who has medium hands? Buffet Crampon is exactly what I'm looking for.

Nicely done and played. Your comments re-enforced what the audio displayed. The big thing left out would be the individual differences between the same models of each, especially the R-13 which only a few reach the full potential of the reputation. The others are more 'tweaked' and are said to leave the factory with additional attention to details. Nice choice with the AKG microphone and well placed at that. A more consistent product than clarinets.

i would demonstrated them with a chromatic scale.. low e to atleast high e.. and some scales/arpagios...

Agreed! It should show then responsiveness of the instrument and tonal quality as well as give us and example of how it plays sonically. Depending on the tempo he uses, anyhow. It almost sounds as if he is using too resistant of a reed or his embouchure is more for a saxophone... too loose.

Intonation of Bb and A is Better in r13 models than RC models but the sound of RC models is better for me.

You shouldn't have a sax player demo your professional clarinets. He's a fine player, but the subtle differences in these instruments would be best suited to a principal orchestral player to articulate.

....I doubt he is a sax player 🤣 But I would prefer to hear a strong, solid airstream to really hear the differences. Doesn't need to be the principle player of any orchestra.

Both are the same bore but Tosca will come with some more features and will last you longer. I'd recommend the Tosca

As far as the sound goes my opinion lines up with yours. The RC was the better sound on the base model but at the prestige level I liked the R13 sound better.

I thought the rc non prestige have a terrible intonation. And the rc prestige was my favourite.

The R13 is the most played clarinet in the world It has greater projection than the RC. The sound is more flexible. You need to try the instruments in the orchestra if that is your aim.

The most played clarinet in the world is some dirt cheap, student model. Perhaps some Yamaha.

In the Europe no one wants to play on r13. It's considered as a junk.

My particular observations of your embouchure seems like you're "biting" or pinching the mouthpiece. And I would prefer more air column support or "lift". I'm not a fan of "floating" elbows and the "dropped" chin.
