I really like the way you play. Or maybe I should say, the way you HEAR. You have a beautiful ear. I listen with you, and enter a hypnotic state. Your musicality is so lovely. Best wishes in your endeavours.

Liked the R-13 by far the best. I like to adjust reed and mouthpiece to a somewhat more free blowing clarinet. Actually my favourite is the Buffet Festival.

I play an old Selmer Centered Tone from the late 50’s. I’ve owned Buffet’s , but they generally don’t make great Jazz horns. I like your sound on the Selmer !

I like playing on my new Bb R13, it is very adaptable and sounds great in many different scenarios. Wood is not as high quality as the older R13s but is still a very fine horn.

Thank you for your video and best wishes for your business. They R13 is the best selling clarinet worldwide. It was designed by Robert Carre whose last design was the RC clarinet The R 13 has great projection Unfortunately Peter Eaton has stopped his production of clarinets but if you can pick up a secondhand one you will not be sorry. Personally it is the best clarinet I've ever played. - God bless you and yourBusiness - Bill - UK

I have a Yamaha YCL-550AL Allegro. It's an intermediate model, granadilla wood, nickel and silver keys, with some gold plating. Its low register is very beautiful. My clarinet teacher finds that too (I've been playing 2 years). I tried today at Twigg, in Montreal, 5 different clarinets. An E11, E12F, R13, and 1 professional model from selmer and 1 intermediate model from backun. I can tell you that only the R13 was an upgrade from the YCL-550AL. The key system was better suited for me. The 550al is better suited for thin fingers. I had more space on all Buffet clarinets. The Selmer was similar (forgot the model sorry) to my 550al (tight space). The R13 had an amazing feel to it. Great sound, great mecanism, and the alternate fingering on the high Bb and mid Eb (which is the same fingering, minus the register key) was producing a sound incredibly close in quality as the usual fingering. Also, the middle Bb/C trill side keys were producing the finest bad-sound-fingering-used-only-for-trills I ever heard... My Yamaha 550 cannot produce that trill with a decent sound... anyway... I'm looking around the house to see if I have 4695$ laying around somewhere... under a sofa maybe? I want an R13! 😁

notallgarbage 4K for an instrument is ludicrous: unless you are paid to use it or quite wealthy. I have seen professionals playing with cheap instruments and sound just as good. One can only tell the difference when compared in HD recording. The price tag isn’t worth it in my opinion.

My advice to any amateur clarinetist of intermediate or better playing skill is to buy a second-hand clarinet. I play a Selmer Series 10 from the early 1970s which I bought from a music shop. The owner of the shop, a clarinet player, had serviced the instrument, and took my old clarinet as a trade-in for a fair price. So, for $750 Canadian, I got a very nice sounding clarinet. I have played it for 15 years and never regretted buying it. Of course, I did play the clarinet, using my own professional mouthpiece, before buying it.

I like the R13 sound. Really brighter! I never try this one... Because in Europe we play 442 diapason. And if i want to play this model,i have to put an 65mm barrel. And i am afraid that it change the centered tone or justess I don't know...

@davidbee8178
@davidbee8178 5 лет назад
Edward Cross you are a truly "gifted" player - I put gifted in quotes because your superb tone and musicality were undoubtedly hard won with hours and hours of playing and practice - so in that sense your ability is not so much a "gift" but your natural talent and voice beyond all the hard work may well be : ) I don't know enough about the Yamaha CSG lll but I was wondering if it might be a little more difficult to play (more resistance etc)for an intermediate player what with the different bore and shorter barrel - BEAUTIFUL sounding instrument though and it has me wondering if it is a NOTICEABLE and truly worthwhile step up from the CSVR. Happy playing and all the best for your career!
@edwardcross
@edwardcross 5 лет назад
Thankyou for your kind words!! The Yamaha was surprisingly easy to play in the lower register, which made it great fun, but admittedly there was slightly more resistance in the upper register. Honestly the best thing to do would be to try as many as possible. There's so many different variables and everything's different for every player! Also experiment with different mouthpieces and ligatures. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Get the Buffet Tradition; it is like the R13 on steroids and has a super dark tone that will not go bright even if you let go of your embouchre. Also that wasn't the best R13 out there so please if you didn't like the R13 tone then realize that the Tradition is an upgrade in every way from it. It actually sounds more like the RC than the R13 when i think about it :)

The buffet RC doesn't have a conical bore. In fact all clarinets have cylindrical bore. Its bore is a combination of poly-cylindrical bores (like the R13).
@vladochiflidzhanov5045
@vladochiflidzhanov5045 5 лет назад
All Boehm system clarinets have a cone at the bottom, not polycylinder. The difference, however, is where it starts from. A higher and narrower cone gives a dark and mellow tone, and vise versa - a lower and more open cone gives a brighter and perky tone. Poly cylinder refers to the top only. Cheers!
@BaieDesBaies
@BaieDesBaies 5 лет назад
@@vladochiflidzhanov5045 Only the bottom is conical. The start of the lower joint is mostly cylindrical. The start of the conical part is important for intonation

Music is an art, an interpretation of the music being played is different for everyone. When one preforms a solo piece the clarinetist is expressing there interpretation and feeling of the piece. I've play with vibrato for decades and have had many teachers both in a group setting and private lessons who are mixed on the subject. I play my art, my music with my interpretation and expression as I feel it best be interpreted. If we all played the same piece the same way it would be a very boring form of art.

Just lo let you know: I do not like any Buffet. I stick to Selmer clarinets. I play on a Selmer 10G and Selmer Recital Bb and A for its 'darker' tone. I use very little vibrato, except when I am playing Jazz pieces. You seem to just go for the vibrato all out. Good for you, I don't particularly enjoy listening to constant vibrato. That is just me.
