It's primarily a teen drama, true it has comedy and horror elements, but at its heart it is about the struggles of growing up, of course it has emotional moments.

1. Ted was played by the great John Ritter. He did 8 Simple Rules with Kaley Cuoco. He became well known from the tv show Three's Company. RIP. 2. Dakara: - "I did not see that happening. It's just not how I thought it would go." - "I think that Buffy's gonna be a good cryer which is gonna make me emotional. I thought I was safe with this show guys." No Dakara. Buffy will wreck you. Did we forget that great performance by Sarah when Buffy learned her prophecy with the Master in Season 1? LOL! Darn you Joss! 3. Pretty scary, at first, to see what it would be like for Buffy had she killed a human being. I think you're right in that Buffy and her mom's relationship would have been very strained and difficult to overcome. And it would have totally changed Buffy and how she would approach certain situations from there on out. It does make you wonder how the Slayers before her handled their own predicaments.

Buffy's "Support Group" all ate Teds cooking, Buffy never did. He food was laced with a drug that made them susceptible to his manipulation and want more drugs. He even told Joyce, "you've tried to leave me a few times, but I always bring you back in" (or something like that)

8 Simple Rules was just an average sitcom but John Ritter is best known for his brilliant comedic portrayal of Jack Tripper on the 70s and 80s show "Three's Company." He died suddenly from heart complications, R.I.P.

This is a somewhat unpopular episode, but I find it entertaining, and I think it's an important tone-setting episode. This episode reminds the viewer that Buffy lives in a moral universe, where she is not above the law, legally, or ethically. Buffy doesn't react to things like this, the way TV characters usually react to this kind of thing. TV characters usually get really upset about something for 5 or 10 minutes of screen time and then they forget all about it. Buffy reacts more like a real person would. If your friend, sibling, or coworker accidentally killed a person in anger... they might well be tormented by it. So is Buffy.

Besides being in Three's Company & 8 Simple Rules (for Dating My Teenage Daughter), John Ritter also starred in a short lived spin off of Three's Company called Three's A Crowd and also Hearts Afire which ran for two seasons & co-starred the late Markie Post (Night Court), as well as appearing on other shows like Felicity and in the Problem Child movies. He was also the voice of Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Ted gives off several hints that he is a robot at times...it's the way he talks...he is factual and detailed and no human talks like that (or hardly anyone), examples: when they are talking about the mini pizzas he goes into detail about using a skillet (why so specific) at the golf course he says "i'm not wired that way" he repeats certain phrases like "beg to differ" which seems stengely systematic.

Oh, honey (I mean that affectionately) - you are not safe from the roller coaster of emotions in this show. You are just gearing up! I grew up with John Ritter on the shows Three's Company and Three's a Crowd. Later I saw him in The Colony (suspense) and IT (the TV series). It was great as both comedian and villain however I never did watch his last show (8 Simple Rules). 😭

In Xander's defence, he wanted more pizza. The narcotic laces ones. He wasn't being a bad friend or being stupid or blind. He was being an addict. Addiction effects people differently, and some people are more susceptible than others. Doesn't give him a free pass, as it was still a choice he made, but it's a mitigating factor imo.

I love this episode. Honestly, it is one of my favorite episodes in the whole show. I'm a big nerd for the universe building in this show and I especially love episodes that build Buffy's slayer lore. This is probably one of the biggest episodes for building up her lore. First, this episode expands on what episodes like Angel and Lie To Me built. Angel introduce the concept that Buffy, as the slayer, isn't just a warrior killing demons, but also a judge having to decide which demons were worthy of death. Lie to me expanded so much further by expanding her role of judge to the human realm. Also, it also pointed out how in the Buffyverse someone becomes either good or evil. Basically, a person is only good or evil, not because of the side they have aligned themselves with, but by the choices they make. Here, Buffy fills out the lore of what her role is in the human realm and simultaneously makes a hard decision to be on the side of good. After killing Ted, she realizes that the slayer plays no role in human justice, so she surrenders herself to the police for their judgement of her actions. Fortunately, because Ted ends up being a serial killing robot, she escapes having to travel that treacherous path. Still, she made her choice and also cemented her perspective on the limits of her powers as the slayer acting as judge of who lives and dies being absolutely limited to the demon realm. Further to all that is a lesser known slayer power that was flexed hard during this episode. Back in the pilot, Giles spoke of this ability shortly, which Buffy almost immediately ignored and never really focused on since. That is the slayer sense. Giles, when speaking to her on the second floor of the Bronze spoke about how a slayer with a finely tuned sense could feel the vampires in the room. She would just intuitively know where they were around her without any need of her human senses. While sadly out of shape due to a lack of training, this episode showed us that she still has the sense, albeit at an uncouncious level. Notice how withdrawn Buffy was from Ted, how she kept distance between them, and how she avoided taking anything from him. Not once did she eat any of his food. Her slayer sense was sounding alarm bells about the danger he posed, and while she confused it with feeling of dislike because he was dating her mother, she still listened to that sense. If you go back, watch that part of the pilot and then rewatch this episode keeping a close eye on Buffy while Ted is around, you can see it. Yes, it's a cheesy monster of the week episode, not the greatest by for with respects to it's storyline. Still, this episode is a foundational cornerstone for so much of what happens in the show after this point that it is really one of the best episodes. Keep this one in mind as you progress through the show, because you may see references to these subjects quite a bit in the future.

They do explain the lack of support for Buffy by the fact that they were all drugged. Which I know isn't the best excuse, because it's just drugs. I mean you're still you(on drugs), although some people are less themselves than others. Like alcohol it's the same thing. I've met people that can drink and they really don't have any alterations in their actual personality. They just can't walk as well, "like my self, a reason why I don't drink in excess or much at all". Where other people completely change like completely.

What up! Don't know if your question was rhetorical or not but I felt compelled to answer that question lol. I grew up watching Three's Company because of my grandma and I loved the physical comedy he did for that show. And so when he appeared on Buffy, I was so excited to see him on there because I've never seen him do something in drama nor see him play a villain. And I was impressed. I also have seen his Problem Child movies. One minute you're laughing your butt off, the next he's delivering an emotional performance that you've got tears coming down lol. Seeing that he can do so well in both genres just showed how great of an actor he was. When he's on, you no longer see John Ritter the actor, you see the character he's portraying.

I watched Three's Company when I was a kid when it was still on the air, and seeing him play Ted after seeing him play Jack Tripper was jarring. He was such a good villain here, and for a beloved actor from my childhood to play such an evil character just upends everything you thought about their acting skills. I never really saw him in 8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter, which was its full title before he died and was replaced by another great actor, James Garner, but I feel like that was probably a mix of comedy and drama that was also quite different from Three's Company. But in this episode, my god, he showed his acting chops and the amazing range he actually had as an actor. Even though he died fairly young, he really made his mark as an actor.

what are you even talking about? Three's Company was about a guy pretending to be gay so he could share an apartment with his two best friends who were female. Again we see the show with a mirror on social comment. The situation with Ted where on the face of he seems nice as pie, but is very dark and evil, but worms his way into all Buffy's friends with Buffy becoming marginalised. Many children resent a new partner being introduced into their lives when a divorced parent starts dating, and sometimes with good cause, as many exploit and abuse their position regarding a child that is not theirs. This show never shyed away from taking on such themes. Great satisfaction when Buffy finally sees to Ted. A bit of a coup getting John Ritter to guest star as Ted, he was a big actor in the 70s and 80s.

you have to remember Buffy doesn't have the right to kill humans...her duty is to protect humanity from evil; monsters and demons and vampires...but her ethics are no different from us. in a way this episode touches on that a lot...yes Ted is a douche but but how Buffy deals with what happens is important. Honestly it pisses me off when fans just say stuff like "yes beat him up Buffy!" and i'm like no....that's not the point of the moral lesson here. they didn't believe Buffy because they were all eating his food and that made them think he was ok...the food was drugged (the pizzas, the cookies etc...)
