In all the times I've watched this episode, I never noticed that Spike is laughing when Giles gets back in his car after scaring Professor Walsh!

Giles was trying to get Buffy to be more independent at the beginning of the season. They still should have told them but maybe he inadvertently caused this.

Traditionally the scientific and logical is seen as the male domain and the intuitive and emotional as the female. The conversation between Walsh and Giles turns this on its head.

The last time we saw Buffy's bday was in S3 when Giles was forced to inject her and weaken her powers. A bit symbolic that that episode really did a lot to cement his role as her father figure.

No it's not. It's a teen drama. It's monsters are just physical metaphors for the real horrors that people, especially teenagers, go through.

I allways figured 314 is just pi, and then I was done. Being a reference to "Bad Girls" is sweet! Faith is Buffys Ethan, so I think there is a lot of thematic parallells going on.

Terrific comedy episode! Also, thanks for referencing episode 3:14; I hadn't thought of that connection before. Not just the "Bad Girls" episode, but also a time where they are confronted by a sort of unearned authority, which can be oppresive, and thus the rebellion, etc. This episode features Two Very Different Authority Figures. Food for thought. Thanks again Domi.

The network was not sure about showing a gay relationship especially in such a big show a Buffy that is why there has been a slow buildup, but I think it's in keeping with Willow's character, she loves deeply so it takes time to grow.

This is one of my favorite comedy episodes of Buffy. Somehow I feel it holds up better on re-watch than others like Band Candy or Something Blue.

In the interaction between Giles and Walsh, I really think that Walsh was deliberately trying to get under Giles' skin and set the groundwork for undermining his relationship with Buffy. I don't want to say more than that at this time to avoid spoiling things for folk who haven't gone beyond this point in the series.

A good bit of comedy in this episode especially when Giles gets a type of revenge and chases Prof Walsh down the street. The interminable Ethan Rayne back again causing havoc. Spike and Giles as Demon teaming up too is comedy gold. Buffy eventually recognizes Giles. When Buffy says ' you were mythtaken' possibly worse pun in show, and of course we see Room 314 for the first time.

Buffy also celebrated her 18th birthday last season, losing her slayer strength for the council trial. Seems Buffy doesn't have very great birthdays. Also we got Tara, but you still need more gay shirts!

@@domie Mmmhhh... no! 😄 Well, can't say much now... let's say that as much as I was shipping Bangel, I was glad to see her happy with a 'regular' guy. But in this ep when he fights with Buffy saying something like 'give me one more week and I'll beat you' it really sounds weird to me. Why do you feel the need to be stronger than her?? Can't you just accept the fact that she's an outstanding girl?
