The show has everything you will love it. S1 of BTVS is a bit cheesy due to low budget etc but you will see it improving leaps and bounds from S2 onwards. An amazing show. It's rare for me to already be a subscriber to a youtube channel when said channel starts Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Welcome to the Buffyverse. I hope you continue enjoying. Episode one and two aired as a full movie event with the intention of breaking them up into individual episodes thereafter. Crosses hurt vampires. Silver is usually a werewolf thing. And even then it depends on the mythology. But in this mythology its not about crosses being silver, just the fact that they are crosses. Also, biting without draining won't do anything to Jesse. Like Buffy said to Giles: Buffy: "To make you a vampire they have to suck your blood. And then you have to suck their blood. It's like a whole big sucking thing." Joss was five years from _Firefly._ At this point he was only known as a secondary _Toy Story_ writer, the Buffy movie writer, a minor writer for _Roseanne_ none of which he was known for. This show is what put him on the map. Alyson Hannigan hadn't done _American Pie_ at this point. That was still two years away. But it is her. A score in years is 20 years so The Master has been trapped for 60 years. Xander, first time he meets Buffy: "Can I have you?" Second time: Willow unintentionally vouches for him (and Jesse), in friendship, after said fumble that had Buffy gathering her books and walking away quickly enough that she didn't hear him say she forgot her stake, by saying, "This is Jesse and that's Xander. Third time: Makes fun of her with conversation he overheard in the library by saying, "Oh, hey, I hope he's not a vampire because then you might have to slay him. Without Willow, who Buffy sought a friendship from, he wouldn't be winning any points with Buffy, in my opinion. DeBarge is a family musical group of Blues singers. I don't know how popular thy were at the time or are now. I laughed hard at "unless you were sleeping." I love that the delete joke worked the only way it can, by having Cordelia's file high-lighted

The first season is pretty good considering the circumstances. (Mid-season replacement on the new-ish WB network, micro budget, lack of network support when it started, novel premise, people prejudging the show based only on the title, etc.) SMG was known for her soap opera role (on All My Children), but she had the acting chops and the professionalism to carry the show. Once the show got broader support and Whedon solidified the writer's room, it really took off.

Love watching people see Buffy for the first time. Episode one is, in my opinion, the best first episode of any show ever. They're considered and looked upon as demons walking the earth. He also wanted to shock the audience by killing one of the main characters off the show. It's a gutsy move and it paid off. It was, at the time, one of only two fictional worlds I could lose myself in and forget about all of my problems. I can't wait to see you react to the rest of the series. A teacher/staff member being in such close physical proximity to a student is probably the least disturbing thing the kids of Sunnydale have seen or experienced. I believe the scene where Giles (Anthony Head) is standing right behind Buffy was shot that way because it's a close up of both characters, unfortunately Sarah is quite a lot shorter than Anthony (he leans down quite far when talking to Buffy in the previous scene). Since this was filmed in the 4:3 ratio (before 16:9 or widescreen), which meant both or multiple actors/actresses would have to be very close to each other when doing close ups of more than one person.

Love that you're watching Buffy, Ashleigh. You're going to have SO much fun, and by the time you get into season 4, it'll be utterly compulsive watching. Compulsive, but still fun. Like everybody says, it just gets better and better. And its influence on later media is GINORMOUS, from its, uh, /distinctive/ dialogue to the many, many tropes it exemplified or defined, or that Joss and the other writers first gave names to. (I think the site TVTropes was originally created to track Buffyverse-related terminology.) Academic libraries are stocked with papers and books exploring all aspects of this little TV show. It really deserves its reputation for being epoch-defining. (Don't go to TVTropes before you finish Buffy, though, because it has ALL THE SPOILERS, and as anyone enthralled by modern media will attest, you can get sucked into reading that site for days on end and we want you to keep reacting to our favorite slayer and her friends instead.)
