Side by side Comparison of the Shred-Er and Vigilante. Comparing the frames as well as functioning with interchangeable parts.
Test firing salt loaded vigilante cartridges as well as shred-er cartridges through the vigilante.
Finally, test firing pellets loaded in the shred-er cartridge through the vigilante barrel. (Do not attempt to fire pellets through a stock Shred-er barrel/upper as there is a barrel obstruction built in and could result in injury and or damage to the Shred-er upper.)
I hope you enjoy the video.

As an avid fly assassin I can 100% recommend the Bug-a-Salt 3.0 over the Bug-a-Salt 2.0. The lethal range is much better and the safety mechanism is MUCH better. It allows for rapid firing instead of resetting safety on every shot. We have a turkey farm fairly close by and have frequent invasions from aerial terrorists. Since upgrading to the 3.0, my status has been transformed from average sniper to a true one man assault division capable of genocide. After every fly hunt I feel compelled to pray and ask forgiveness for the incredible loss of life that I and the engineers of the 3.0 are responsible for. The glee I feel watching flies fall to the ground from mid-air flak attack should feel wrong somehow but I only feel giddy. I sincerely hope my humanity and respect for life isn’t permanently destroyed by warfare with this tough and relentless enemy. I do not feel the negative effects of PTSD, thankfully. I’ll update you if changes to my sanity occurs.

Thanks, much appreciated. I have been thinking about other saltSWAT videos to do. The problem is that it is so convenient, functional, and affordable. No cartridges to reload, or maintain, just CO2 and a hopper, It just works. The Shred-Er, at it's high price point opens it up to all types searching for cost saving work a rounds. Lots of fun and power for a fly gun, but a lot of overhead. It has really started to heat up around here so maybe a yellow Jacket Shoot or something of the sort when they start showing up. 👍🏽😁

Hi Joe, I'm afraid I kinda forgot about this, but it so happens that someone mentioned the shoutout. While the original comment seems to have gone missing, I do remember making this statement at some point. While I'm not really the type to drink coffee, being mentioned by another channel is always an honor, which I am very thankful for. It was very interesting to see the two atually sitting side by side even if I'm two years late to the party.

@KevinMah-ol5on
@KevinMah-ol5on 11 месяцев назад
Exactly. 👍 This has been demonstrated on many shotgun channels. In fact that's why Henry has a smooth bore "garden gun" designed for .22 shotshells. The smooth barrel gives tighter groups. Though I suspect the longer barrel contributes to speed and power. I don't know how much the salt rounds weigh but likely a lot less than lead pellets so need a bit more barrel to let the discharged CO2 fully expand before the round leaves the barrel.

Index issue could be either worn mechanical parts on pistol or poor tolerances on the manufacture of the salt magazine
@Gamer1st1
@Gamer1st1 2 года назад
You can get either the Thompson M1A1 or the MP-40 from Umarex and try to salt convert them. They are full or semi auto, and use two of the small co2 carts instead of the big ones. They run BBS though, so how you’d go about making salt ammo eludes me at the moment. Just go straight to a 20 or 12 gauge shotgun with rock salt and really show em.
@justanotheravgjoe1314
@justanotheravgjoe1314 2 года назад
Yeah the feeding of some of them is the challenge, I am going to do the Sig just for fun as they have a chain/belt, it will be tedious to load, but primarily the one by one chambers of salt, so kind of like doing the V 3.0 reload video 30 times, may be worth doing once. I may try the salt slurry, but I don't want a bunch of salt floating around the magazine. I'll have to look at the Umarex models, this is all for fun for me and out of my own pocket, so I'll tackle them as I can 👍🏽. 🤣my neighbors as well as my landscaping would love the 12 gauge 🤔🤣

Btw many people are gonna say this is just a vigilante and yeah it is, but really it's a Crosman model 357 which was introduced in 1983. The vigilante just has hogue style grips and modern looking barrel shroud.

Thanks Tyler. I was actually wondering about that myself. I grew up really wanting that Crosman 357. It was just so Starsky 😁 (dating myself a little). I appreciate the info 👍🏽.
@MrBilld75
@MrBilld75 2 года назад
Yeah, it is just a .357 with a new barrel and grips. I personally like the barrel better, cause rails. But I hate the monsterous grips, so I made my own wood ones and like it much better.
@TylerSnyder305
@TylerSnyder305 2 года назад
@@MrBilld75 I find the barrel horribly ugly. If I was gonna get one new I'd get the tripple threat which comes with 3 barrel lengths and the 8" barrel isn't ugly. My only complaint is the half lug S&W model 19 style barrel on a Colt python style frame. I like the look of a half lug better but it just doesn't really belong on a python that should have a full lug. Btw back in the mid - late 80's Crosman offered a sharpshooter set #4357 which was the 357-8 with a #457 pistol scope that clamped onto the barrel shroud.

Thanks for the video. I own both a Vigilante and a Bug-a-salt 3.0. I have found that the co2 in the Vigilante leaks over time. I suspect same issue with the Shred-er. So not as practical to keep at ready, or to just use for 1 or 2 shots then let it sit waiting for the next time. Whereas the 3.0 is pump and go, every time. But if you have a bunch of targets that require the power of the Shred-er, then worth screwing down the co2 cylinder and having some fun! I think I get about 30 full power shots with each co2 cylinder then another 20 of reasonable power before it drops off too much to maintain similar point-of-aim/point-of-impact (depending on range). There are other issues that affect speed and power of co2 airguns (ambient temperature, rapid succession of shots) but maybe not as big an issue for the Shred-er, especially if shooting at close range.
@DRJoe100

Supposedly you only want to stick with oem co2cartridges and not use other brands or it ruins the seals .
@KevinMah-ol5on

@@DRJoe100 I have both Crosman and Umared CO2 cartridges since I have both manufacturers' airguns. Haven't found a difference other than the Umarex costs more but got them to maintain warranty. The bigger issue is using the correct type of lubricant and adding a drop with each new cartridge. Pellgun oil is good but oil based. I switched to silicon lubricant because I also have higher pressure airguns that can diesel with the pellgun oil.

Interesting that this is based on the Vigilante, which I knew as the Crosman 357 back in the day. I would not want to shoot salt through my barrels though -- and swapping barrel tubes was very easy -- I put in smoothbore brake/fuel line to shoot .25 cal paintballs, same concept should work on this Vigilante as well. I also wonder if they changed the valving on the Shred-er vs Vigilante? Seems like -- if you'll pardon the expression-- OVERKILL -- to put that much power behind the salt. Can you chronograph the stock Vigilante with pellets, then swap to the Shred-er frame with Vigilante barrel, and chrono that with pellets, see if it's any different? Thanks! Great vids!

Can't get the ready made ball bearing slugs here in Canada, as they are not legal, but hot glue ones are easy and cheap to make and tear things up nicely. Just make a silicone mold the size of the holes in the magazine, let it dry (leaving a hole in the top to pump in the glue) and voila. Once hardened, they can be popped out of the mold and put in the gun. There's a guy here on RU-vid who shows how he does it, by the name of Rune Rebel. Nice old guy who does a lot with airguns and loves the HDR-50 and Umarex's other guns.

I have both, and enjoy using both. The Shredder is a pretty good package in that it comes with everything you need and is in a form factor that is not going to confuse neighbors as it is clearly not a real firearm. The Vigilante is nice because you have a functioning bb, pellet and salt gun. Cost wise the vigilante is about half the cost of the shredder. Reloading the cartridges is the other issue, keeping in mind the cost of getting additional clips (shipping as well). So taking all of that into consideration if I was going to have only one, I would go with the vigilante. (maybe paint the end of the barrel fluorescent). I hope that helps. Thanks for watching. 👍🏽

I know that one of the vigilante sets you can buy from Crosman comes with a holster, but I would bet that most of your medium frame revolver holsters would probably work on the vigilante, I'm not sure on the Shred-er with shape of the upper attachment, but I believe it should. I only have 1911 holsters and I don't really want to buy one for the salt guns. 🤷‍♂️. Anyone else have any holster input?

That is awsome. But leaving a gun charged, waiting for a fly seems wrong. I never leave a CO2 gun charged. And dont want to waste an entire CO2 caartridge on one or two flies. BTW. what do you you call a fly after you tear his wings off? ......... A Walk.
@justanotheravgjoe1314
@justanotheravgjoe1314 2 года назад
😂. Yes that is the shortcoming with these CO2 fly guns. You pretty much have to plan your bug shoots. I generally still use the Bug-A-Salt pumps for day to day use with one or two flies. The Shred-Er or saltSWAT are for those days when the yard needs to be cleared 😁

@@justanotheravgjoe1314 Lol I buy the big boxes of CO2. But would still rather not use them. BUT If its one of those flies every where days! Then put in a cartridge and go Wild Bill on them! Sounds like great fun!

@@justanotheravgjoe1314 While true, that you should not leave CO2 in a gun for a long time, cause it's carbonic acid and will eventually rot things, I've left my carts. in my Vigilante for a month without issue and didn't leak a whole lot/lose CO2 over time. I was still getting solid shots a month later, so you can go at least that long.

@MrBilld75 2 года назад
@@justanotheravgjoe1314 Yeah, I was curious too when I got mine, cause I'd heard many things. So I experimented. Left my cart in for 20 days or so and no issues, so I went 30. And none of the airgun experts see anything wrong with a month or so. I'm on GTA (Gateway to Airguns) forum/website and there's lots of folks who have talked about it and most think a few weeks to a month or a bit more is fine. Nobody has said anything about longer, although some have, but I tend to go with the sciency types who talked about CO2 being acidic and not to leave it in there for a really long time. But my Vigilante held CO2 for a month no problem. There's videos on the subject of leaving CO2 in them too. Opinions vary, but everyone seems to agree that a month is certainly safe.

😁, the vigilante barrel is all black, no orange tip on that one. I was just showing here the interchangeable nature of the parts/platforms. If I plan on using vigilante as a dedicated salt gun, I would probably paint it orange, but for now, I keep it as is to better distinguish it from Shred-Er. Thanks for watching.

do a paper cartridge for the umarex
@justanotheravgjoe1314
@justanotheravgjoe1314 2 года назад
Do you think it will hold?🤔. I think the paper will adhere at the top and bottom but the side walls are very thin, I am thinking it will come up between chambers. I could try it though. I have been thinking about the salt slurry and letting it dry solid, but I don't know if that would cause a corrosion issue over time. Plastic wrap I think would be the same issue as paper, with the thin wall between chambers. I guess I won't know for sure unless I try. Thanks for the comment 👍🏽😁
