The distortion pedal becomes the pre-amp and as long as you have tubes in the power amp you will get a tube sound. Good video demonstrating this, dude. Remember viewers -- when loading pedals in front of an amp, get 1. a tube amp (works poorly with solid state and even worse with solid state modelling) and 2. Get an amp with a lot of headroom, like this v22. Most tube fenders are very good platform for this. Basically the tube power amp is all that you are using. The distortion from your pedals becomes your pre-amp. Nice video, dude!

correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the power amps only activated if you use the drive channel? and the pre-amp in the clean channel? Or maybe I am out to lunch lol

+Perth Guitar you still can get it. but if i am not wrong the prices have increased. bought mine for 299euro and now they are 325euro.i am wondering if its because of gettijg good reviews all the time

if you goose any tube amp like that you're going to get a gnarly sound. but that ultimate drive sounds good.

Great. So that's a 1x12 cab. That's what I thought. If I'm correct, with a low-wattage amp, you get the best sound for recording with a small cab, either a 1x12 or 2x12. What's your thoughts about this?

Ray Amukwaya i am very satisfied with my bugera v22! especially the infinium series is great and checks the tubes constantly automatically. so very user friendly.. plug and play.

Hey Cory I’m planning on getting this head, a relatively cheap overdrive and put a Mesa 5 band eq pedal in the loop going into a Harley Benton 112, do you reckon I’d get some heavy Metallica-esque tones out of it?

@@MrSICK661 Just put a good distortion pedal in front of the amp for metallica tone, with the overdrive from the amp it's not gonna work.

@@theknifesedge57 i love the clean channel cranked, the dirty channel just sounds too fake to me though. I want to get a fender flavoured overdrive pedal then I can just keep on the clean channel.

@@alienboy2783 it depends on what you have and how much space. I paid £250 second hand which is an absolute bargain. If you have neighbours I'd recommend getting an attenuator so you can get the most out of it, as for the amp itself have a look on ebay. Sometimes youl find great deals, especially in the current situation we find ourselves in.

@@InfinityNexusReviews hmmm true that is an awesome deal! I will have a look on eBay. I will also look up what an attentuator is. I am learning towards the combo because of my current living situation. Also because the portability as i will be needing to take this things to about 3 to 4 different places. I wish they had the tri rec because that metal sounds was perfect. Is the 333xl the newer version of that?

+Ray Amukwaya more like recording at 11...editing from 3pm - 5pm..rendering from 6pm-7pm...creating a thumbnail 7.30 - 8pm... realising a rendering problem... rendering again... etc. until its 4am. would be fun if recording and uploading would be almost simultaneously. 😊 btw i know you both were joking 😊

@@jamesrogers9949 Hell yeah. I mean, I use mine for practice sometimes but I push the power tubes to breakup. I recommend swapping the speaker out and trying out different tubes along the way as well. Fun stuff.

a Blackstar Distortion pedal ..... I pretty much can run it into A clean amp & the pedal gives the best chunkiest & even nastiest gain/distortion ..or back it down a bit if ya want. But I say No need for an amp that requires pedals to get the sound you want .....if youre lookin to play Metal - Buy a Jsx , Never seen an Amp that heavy & that much gain out the door.

+kevin brooks what cab are you using? i can recommend a EQ pedal in the effect loop or maybe even im front of the amp. i use a Harley benton ultimate drive (OCD clone) and this pedal brings a lot of low end

Speaker swap; ppl seem to like the Swamp Thang to increase bass. I put an Eminence CV75 in mine because i watched a RU-vid video and decided I liked it better than the others(LOL), pretty arbitrary but at any rate, was quite the improvement from the Turbosound. Took a couple months to break in the bass response I was looking for. Make sure u break the speaker in real good; it may not sound beefy enough at first but have faith. U could try swapping the power tubes for 6l6s and the preamp tubes for something with a little less gain(more gain=more compression=less thump), idk, maybe a 5751 or 12ay7 or two depending on what channel you want to bump.

No. It's NOT good for "Metal". But...it does sound beautiful when you're doing jazz, blues, folks, country, etc. You metal people, if you're wanting a budget amp, try Bugera's 1990, 333XL, and/or 6262 models. Don't waist on V22 and V55.

@@rehn_0130 Well, i have a harley benton explorer '84, with "HBZ" pickups, and i can tell u that is great. So... I have a ESP LTD kh 202 too, wich is more expensive, but i play my explorer more. So again, why not?
